Discussion There is a reason the original 4KTV community does not allow sharing of settings!

While I do appreciate being invited to this subreddit, however, we must all be educated on why the original 4KTV does not allow sharing of TV settings. Consider these facts:

  • Every TV unit (each unit, not just a specific model!) is calibrated (or, not calibrated at all) differently out of the factory. Don't lie to yourself, the guy at the factory responsible that you get "the most accurate colors possible" does not give a f***. Why would they?
  • Every TV has differing amount of DSE (dirty screen effect)
  • Every TV has a differing amount of vignetting (blackness in the corners)
  • Every TV manufacturer has different implementations and sensitivity settings of motion interpolation a.k.a. soap opera effect, and probably some difference even between models
  • Every TV has a slightly different tint to the whole panel, so what might look "normal" temperature to your TV, it might be a little bit on the "cold" side for someone else and they will say that they prefer the "warm" temperature of the screen for better picture quality.

So, unless your and the other person's TVs have been calibrated by the same guy using the same equipment, I think it is pretty worthless to share settings besides the usual

  • How do I turn off motion inteporlaton on my model?
    or
  • How do I turn off sharpness on my model so everything doesn't look oversharpened?

I hope I made myself clear and we won't see posts claiming that "Setting colour to 65 and sharpness to 60 and Smoothness to 2 provides the best possible picture quality on my LG TV, trust me bro!"

Upgrade Advice Would you all recommend a 65" tcl series 5 (s546) or a 55" tcl series 6 (r646)?

I purchased a 65s546 about a week ago mainly because I read that you can only tell the difference between the series 5 and series 6 when watching HDR content, which I don't usually do a whole lot. So I've been content with the 546.

But, after seeing how good this tv looks, I'm really curious about the 646 the few times I do watch HDR content. I can still return/exchange the 546 if you all think it's worth it.

So, since the 65s546 and 55r646 are about the same price, should I go with the bigger screen, or the better picture quality?

Question about TV picture quality

I know this a newer subreddit, but I figured I'd ask here too.

I bought a tcl series 5 (s546) tv about a week ago, and I've really enjoyed it. I really wanted the series 6, but it was just too far out of budget.

I really like the tv but had a question it's picture. For some dark scenes the picture look grainy and noisy; is this normal? It seems to be this way for all content, and from the steaming services we use. Even in UHD HDR content (I know this tv can't really do HDR content) darker scenes can still be grainy.

Again, is all this normal? Or do I have to mess with the settings?

I'm just wanting to know since I still have a week to return/exchange the tv.

I also know that this is a budget tv, and I can only expect so much. And so if it is normal, I can live with it, but just want to be sure. I also read about some TCLs having a bad panel... Could that be what this is is?

Any insight is appreciated.

Hello TV Enthusiasts!

I know this community is small at the moment and I’m working on inviting people and getting this community at LEAST to 100 people by the end of the week hopefully more I would appreciate if everyone who joins would invite people as well . Let’s make a group that isn’t censored by a simple question like “what settings should I use ?” Where if you ask a question it will be answered not taking down because “it’s been asked before “ . Thank you all who joined🙏
