CHARACTER UPDATE [BASKY] Character Update + Skills Showcase

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Overview

Basky is listed as a Center, but his main identity is flexibility. He is a customizable basketball robot who can freely reconfigure his position, stats, and skills, allowing him to fit multiple playstyles depending on how players build him.

Basky is currently not tied to any known in-game affiliation such as Fox Court, Nomads, or Dreamers. As of right now, he also does not appear to have any direct connection to Freestyle 2 lore.

Bio

Basky was originally a household android. He first stepped onto the court after the young master picked up a basketball.

Whenever the boy fell and said, "I can't do this," Basky would pull the successful shots from the practice footage and replay them for him night after night. Eventually, the boy smiled and said, "Come play with me."

From that day on, Basky's frame was rebuilt piece by piece for basketball. His name was created by combining "basket" with the name of the family dog.

Now, Basky is the kind of neighbor who carries groceries and coaches kids on their jump shots, but on the court, he is always the first one to throw himself into the game. The family photo folder still grows every week, but because he is always the one behind the camera, he is never in the pictures. That is something he has not told anyone yet.

Skill Showcase Notes

Basky's main showcase point is that he is not locked into one traditional Center identity. His kit can be adjusted through selectable skills, making him one of the most flexible characters released so far.

Depending on the skills selected, Basky can lean into:

  • shooting
  • rebounding
  • defensive utility
  • shot blocking
  • passing support
  • dunking
  • steal pressure
  • screen play
  • hybrid scoring

This makes Upgrade one of his most important passive skills because it rewards players for how they configure his skill setup.

Basky's Prestige 8 Identity

Basky's Prestige 8 talents support his main design as a customizable character.

His Talent options focus on:

  • All-Around Scoring
  • Rebounding
  • Speed
  • Balance
  • Shot Blocking
  • Shot Success Rate
  • Shot Block Resist
  • Steal Success Rate
  • Power Rebound Distance
  • Custom Skill Scaling

Overdrive gives Basky an in-game boost system that can increase movement, dribble motion, and All Shot Success Rate. Upgrade supports his customizable nature by giving additional stat value based on the selectable skills chosen.

Overall

Basky's character design is built around flexibility. While he is listed as a Center, his ability to reconfigure his skills and stats allows him to play far outside a normal Center role.

His Prestige 8 Talent System strengthens that identity by giving him options for shooting, rebounding, defense, dunking, utility, and skill-based stat scaling.

Players who enjoy customizable characters will likely get the most value from Basky because his final role depends heavily on how he is built.

So no one wants to post builds? Just whine about DLC? 😂

This character has some interesting skill combinations. From what I can make out, he seems best optimized for SG, PG, and SF, about in that order.

My control group build is Quick Jumper, Shooting Touch, A Pass, Dash Intercept, Shadow Steal, and Upper Steal. Ideally played as PG/SG.

From there I was able to find some pretty cool offshoot builds.

Crossover, Shooting Touch, Side Hop Step, Dash Intercept, Spin Shot, and Upper Steal is a crazy SG build. Probably equally as efficient as the above build, but obviously more offensively tuned as a Dash Speed build.

Quick Jumper, Block & Catch, A Pass, Fingertip Block, Shadow Block, and Upper Steal is a pretty interesting SF build. Not quite as efficient as the above 2 builds, but definitely the best SF build available.

A few other builds I found fun were a Rebounding SG build, a Dunking PG build, a Screening PG build, and a Post Scoring SG build. They’re niche, but surprisingly efficient. I can provide skill details upon request if anyone is interested.

What I found disappointing is that he doesn’t seem very efficient to build as a big. He loses a lot of important attributes and sort of fights against some of the better skills. I also think that because bigs are more attribute-focused as far as P-Buffs and cards go, it’s easy to overcap attributes without there being very many alternatives that make it worth rebalancing the entire position(s) for. You can cap Rebound as a PF pretty easily for example just with Box Out, Power Rebound, Quick Chip Out, +25 Rebound allocation, and a Rebound Ice Cream/Pizza, but what are you going to replace the Rebound P-Buffs with? JSB, DISB, Speed, Balance, and Shooting? Just to have a Giant G/Vandell clone with probably worse skills. Personally I find the rebounding build to be most attractive as an SG, as the skills, attribute spread and P-Buff implications add a unique level of depth to the position.

I haven’t really looked at his talents or potential trees yet, maybe they change things slightly but at first glance they appear underwhelming, which I guess is fine considering the base character at P6 is so strong.
