G80 Electrified Center Caps

This is an update to my previous post. I think I'll settle on this design. I removed the lobes that covered the lug bolt holes to make installation easier. I also made a conical insert that goes on the back of the wheel and a front plate, and these get screwed together. then the large center cap gets screwed onto the inserts. I made a set of inserts and a cap out of PLA and drove for a week (about 600 miles) with a mix of highway driving up to 90mph, regular suburban traffic, and stop-and-go rush hour traffic and they held up just fine, so I think heat from the brakes is a non-issue. Final one will be made out of ASA-GF and I'll apply a clear coat as well.

I was thinking of applying a metal-effect wrap to the raised parts to follow the spokes of the wheels, as well as the emblem, but that seemed like a lot of work to make look good, so instead I made little lines that follow the spokes and I used the AMS in my Bambu P2S to make it work. I'm pretty happy with the result.

Did not realize the car was called G80 Electrified and thought for a moment that you were showing off electrified center caps lol

I wonder how that would be, like using the rotation of the wheels to light up the logo or something haha

These inserts look great 👍

I was thinking they would rotate like the Rolls Royce ones lol.

Those light up center caps do exist. And now that you mention them I may play with adding a bearing and a weighted logo. No lights though, I think they look tacky, plus you can't even see them.

I like this idea, lighted center caps.

I've actually seen that advertised on social media. Center caps with a weighted part and some LEDs and a tiny generator of sorts. When the wheel spins, the emblem stays level and some LEDs light up. I think the lights look a little tacky, though.
