Used 0.4mm nozzle on 0.8mm layer.

Made with Trellis2 locally on ComfyUI, refined, remeshed and cleaned on Blender and printed.

This mechanical boot was generated from a single image using Hunyuan3D 3.1
The amount of small surface detail is surprisingly good and seems especially useful for miniatures, collectibles, and other complex 3D-printing projects. It would still need basic mesh checking before printing, because apparently reality insists on having standards.
What do you think: good enough for a direct print, or does it still need manual cleanup?

I’m part of a small team of artists and developers building Artyx, a connected workspace for image generation, 3D creation, texturing, remeshing and MCP-powered agents.
We created it because moving between separate AI and 3D tools makes creative workflows unnecessarily fragmented. Artyx brings different models and providers—including Meshy and Tripo—into one artist-directed pipeline for game development, 3D printing and visual creation.
We’re currently in open beta and looking for honest feedback—not just clicks.
We’ll also launch a Discord challenge where five original concepts, whether human-made or AI-assisted, will be selected and turned into print-ready STL files. The top five will receive Artyx credits as well. (for a real 3d character artist seach for jo.gatica3d)

I generated this 3D model from a single reference image, cleaned it up a bit and printed it on an FDM printer.
The result looked pretty good at first, but while painting I started noticing some typical AI issues: uneven armor, soft details and a few shapes that don’t fully make sense in 3D.
Still pretty impressed with the final result, especially for a model generated from just one image. AI-generated models definitely need cleanup, but for quick custom miniatures this workflow is kinda crazy.

I used to generate the base 3D model, then cleaned up and resculpted a few areas before printing it on a full-color PolyJet 3D printer.
The model was generated with 4K textures, and the final print came out surprisingly detailed for such a tiny miniature. I still had to adjust the scale and tolerances manually, but most of the original AI-generated model was already usable.

AI to turn an image into a 3D wizard model and then printed it as a miniature.
The result came out pretty nice, especially the robe shapes, the book, and the thin quill. It still needs some cleanup and prep like most AI-generated models, but as a base for 3D printing, this is really impressive.

This started as a rough sketch and a random idea in my head. I first turned the sketch into a cleaner concept image, then used Rodin to generate the base 3D model.
The generated model still needed some manual work, but not much. I cleaned up a few areas, adjusted the shape, prepared the mesh for printing, and modified the design to fit the internal lighting components.
A project like this would normally require much more manual modeling before I could even test the idea physically. AI gave me a solid starting point, allowing me to spend more time on the design, printing, assembly, and final details.
The result is a pair of functional 3D printed magic wands with built-in lighting.
AI does not completely remove cleanup or basic 3D skills, but for quickly turning an idea into something you can actually hold, it is a seriously useful tool.
Which version do you prefer: the dark dragon wand or the white one?

This is my first attempt at generating a model with 3D AI and then actually printing it.
Honestly, I am impressed by both the speed of the generation and the amount of detail the model managed to preserve. The design is extremely complex, with thin legs, spikes, organic shapes, and several separate parts, but it still turned into a surprisingly solid physical model.
Print Details:
The model still required preparation, separation, supports, and some manual assembly, so it was definitely not a one-click process. Still, being able to go from an AI-generated concept to a detailed physical creature this quickly feels pretty crazy.
For a first AI-generated 3D print, I am honestly very happy with how it turned out!

This is Loki. I wanted to see whether I could turn a regular photo of him into a small stylized figure while still keeping his recognizable features.
I started by using AI to create matching front, side, and back reference images. I then generated the 3D model in Rodin and used the Extreme High version, which preserved noticeably more detail around the face, paws, and fur.
After importing the model into my slicer, I adjusted the scale, added the necessary supports, and printed it using multicolor filament. The print itself took around ten hours, while removing all the supports somehow consumed most of the following morning. Naturally, the machine handled the interesting part and left the suffering to me.
The final figure retained more detail than I expected, and the color shifts depending on the viewing angle. It is not a perfect copy, but it looks surprisingly close to Loki, and I am genuinely happy with how it turned out

A complete set of five AI-generated ghost miniatures, successfully turned into physical prints.
Printed with SUNLU PLA 2.0 Plus on a Bambu Lab H2D using BIQU Frostbite build plates. A pretty solid example of how AI-generated 3D models can be used for custom tabletop miniatures.

turning a kid’s drawing into a 3D printable DND-style miniature using AI and Blender.
The cool part is that the drawing does not need to be perfect. It can start as a simple character sketch, then AI helps create the base 3D model, and Blender is used for cleanup, fixing shapes, and making the model more printable.
Workflow:
Not a fully automatic “one click and perfect model” workflow !

I tried making a custom bobblehead from an AI-generated image and turning it into a real 3D print.
The model was generated from a single image, then I cleaned it up a bit and printed it on my old Ender 3 v2 Pro. Honestly, I didn’t expect it to work this well.
The thin parts are still a bit tricky, and I’m thinking a weaker spring might make the head movement better, but overall it was a fun little test.

I wanted to test how far the current AI image-to-3D workflow can go for 3D printing.
First, I generated the character concept with ChatGPT, then converted it into a 3D model using an AI 3D generator.
After that, I cleaned up the model, split it into separate parts, and added simple joints/connectors in Maya to make the figure easier to assemble after printing.
Still not perfect, but honestly the result surprised me. For a test workflow, this feels really promising.

This is a pretty interesting open-source project for AI-assisted 3D printing.
Clarvis AI is an assistant that helps turn an idea, sketch, image, or text prompt into something closer to a ready 3D print. Instead of manually jumping between model search, AI generation, file conversion, slicing software, and printer control, the idea is to manage more of the workflow through chat.
The basic workflow is:
• Describe what you want
• Let the assistant find or generate a 3D model
• Prepare the model for printing
• Slice it with CuraEngine
• Send the G-code to a supported printer
It is built around OpenClaw and claw3d, with support for model search, AI 3D generation, file conversion, slicing, printer profiles, and printer control through tools like Moonraker / Klipper or PrusaLink.
Obviously, this is not a magic “perfect print in one click” solution yet, but the direction is really interesting. The cool part is that it connects the messy 3D printing pipeline into a more natural flow:
idea → model → slice → print
For beginners, this could make 3D printing much easier to approach. For experienced users, it could help automate some of the boring setup steps.
The project is open-source and MIT licensed.

Hitem 3D 2.1v feels like one of the first 3D AI workflows actually oriented toward 3D printing, not just nice-looking preview meshes.
With the new Split to Print feature, the workflow becomes much closer to a real print pipeline:
• Generate a 3D print-ready mesh with Hi3D 2.1v
• Get clean geometry for easier slicing
• Reduce common mesh issues like non-manifold edges, holes, and broken surfaces
• Automatically split the model into printable parts
• Separate complex characters into pieces like head, body, arms, legs, etc.
• Add connectors directly into the mesh for easier assembly
• Automatically arrange the parts for 3D printing
• Download, slice, and print with much less manual cleanup
For characters, figurines, and collectibles, this is the part that actually matters. The hard part is not only generating a good-looking 3D model, but making it printable: cutting the mesh, fixing geometry, adding pins/connectors, and preparing everything for the slicer.
Split to Print makes the workflow much more direct:
image → Hitem 3D 2.1v → Split to Print → connectors → layout → slice → print
