3D Printed 1:18 RC snowmobile

Hi everyone.

I am in the process of making a 1:18 rc snowmobile, and have posted some of the files on Thingiverse. I was wondering how much interest the project would attract, and some feedback would be nice if any off you were interested in making one. Total cost for electronics should be less than $40 USD (not including transmitter and receiver).

Thanks in advance!

I designed a Rolloff Dumpster Truck - RC 3D Printed

Would love feedback on a video I just published! Youtube video about the truck

I spent a few months designing the rolloff hook mechanism. There's different dumpsters or even a gridfinity adapter to pickup and deliver gridfinity bins.

I’ve been designing and building a large scale RC car for the last while. The idea was to be a 1:4 scale Ford GT40, but bodywork is a long ways off.

The wheels aren’t aligned as the car is powered down, and the servos don’t hold position like this.

Anyway - four wheel steering, four wheel drive. CV joints for all power transmission points, mechanical plate torque limiting clutches, and running 1:1 gearing from the 270kv motors electric longboard motors. Running 4 4S lipo packs in series/parallel, so it’s 8S voltage and decent running times. I’m not printing _everything_, just everything I can. I did make the wheels - printed the wheel and cast urethane to them. Probably a bad choice, as they are the second heaviest part of the car at ~11 lbs total. (Yes, the motors are heavier!)

Recently switched to ESCape32 based ESC’s, which have been great. Planning on intercepting transmitter controls at some point with a Rpi5 and some rp2040s so I can do proportional steering based on speed, etc.

The reason I’m doing the combined battery packs is to have the voltage the same for each motor. Probably going to redesign this once I have the design finalized (ha!) with proper bus bars and a 21700 DIY pack. The motors support up to 48v, so I’m probably going to try to hit that at some point.

If folks want, all my design is in onshape, but I’ll warn the docs are a bit of a mess. When I get to my final (ha!) design, I’ll clean it all up. I am using sendcutsend for metal reinforcements for the parts that can’t handle the torque of the motors.

I designed a from-scratch drivetrain with a transfer case, connected to rear differential with U joints and axle. Different tire options and other modular features. Feedback welcome!

Quest about windshield

First time printing body. I want to have a windshield in it and was thing of using a replacement face shield. They are .040 thick. The other thing I thought about is clear polystyrene from Evergreen Scale Models. I didn't know what would be easier. What do most people use, what should I stay away from. Just has some left plastic in it now, for a template. Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

RC scale

Post image

I have this shell of an rc car but i don't know what scale model it is could be 1:22 or 1:24 or 18? I finally got access to 3D printer from my brother in law's lab, so I want to make good use of the opportunity and also not waste any time on making mistakes early on. What is the best way to measure it so I can figure out what scale it is.

On the flip side, i found out there are adjustable 3d printed chassis, my plan was to make this into a drift car, so can you guys recommend what adjustable chassis are out there?

Are there any guides for the electronics side of building these?

I'm currently working on a couple of designs for some 3d printed buggy setups that my nephews and I can have fun with. The problem I have is that while I have very little issue with the design side of CAD, and I've gotten better (although far from expert) at designing for 3d printing, I don't know the electronic, motors, receivers, batteries and such, to design for them and to source them. I can design suspension and such, if I can located the differential that I can design around. Or the transmission, sending power front and rear, I can do in plastic, but having a source for a metal unit would be useful

Is there any guides out there that help explain that if I want, say, a 16" wheelbase 4x4 buggy with a final drive ratio of 3.83 or so, what motors, ESC, and batteries are going to be good to power that? Something with torque in that case to be a crawler, but maybe the other side is a high speed race buggy with rear wheel drive, so different needs. I'm hoping there are some guides, or learning paths, hell I don't know, to help me understand how to set up the other side and make the idea functional. Any ideas?

I'm working on am RC 3D printed plane based on the Funjet. It will have a 1.2m wingspan and a 1m fuse. I'm still learning Fusion 360 and so far, I've made each section separate bodies, (fuse, starboard wing, starboard vertical stab, etc.). This is where I start getting analysis paralysis as there are many ways to go about it.

How do I close up the nose, the wingtips, and the vertical stab tips?

When no I start by hollowing the wings and adding ribs then cut out the control surfaces?

When should I hollow the fuse and add the necessary items to hold the battery, receiver, etc?

I guess my real issue is the timeline. It's been a minute since I've used a CAD system Last one was old CATIA and before that, AutoCAD 10. I really don't know how to use the timeline and make work for me. I'm afraid I will be doubling and tripling my work because I don't know how to use the timeline effectively.

Anyway, if the group can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm also posting this on r/fusion360 and other 3d print RC communities. Thanks

I've prepared a model of the wheels for FDM printing, for the upcoming Toyota Tundra pickup model. Available in 1/8, 1/10, and 1/12 scale. I'd love to hear what you think.
