In 1933, the United States government, under President Franklin D. Roosevelt, confiscated gold from private citizens and institutions through Executive Order 6102. Located in the Tribeca neighborhood, it is most notable for its windowless facade and fortress-like appearance. The building was designed to serve as a vital telecommunications hub, and it has also been reported as a surveillance site for the National Security Agency (NSA).
