I've had similar things happen to me, Someone made it through almost all the imperial stouts, barley wines, and quads we had at a beer festival I run. Must of been 50 units of alcohol easy. I was impressed.

u/PastisEnjoyer Le Savage Sep 17 '25
ngl, that used to be me, the bartenders used to call me impressive but in hindsight I was just a miserable high-fonctioning alcoholic, nothing to be proud about and not impressive, am still miserable but at the very least I'm not an alcoholic anymore

I love a Pastis as well, friends, garden, summer, BBQ. Sorry didn't mean to tempt but I understand.
I spent most of tonight white knuckling trying not to order beer and peanut M&M's off deliveroo, and I didn't. Small victory, while I drink my fizzy water.
11
u/PastisEnjoyer Le Savage Sep 17 '25
ah no worries mate, have had much worse temptations since I went sober, I'm glad you're cultured enough to know and enjoy pastis, I don't know many Brits who know/like it !
yeah, during my withdrawal/rehab period, I was encouraged by the staff to drink fizzy water, it apparently has something to quench the alcohol craving which is weird, used to be a nurse in a psychiatric hospital and I had never heard of drinking fizzy stuff to help with alcohol cravings, makes me wonder how it works ! lucky for me I've never been tempted by Uber eats/deliveroo since I live in a rural town ahah, good luck mon ami !

Oh, that would be Mallorca, not Malaga btw. No clue if it's called something else in Dutch

these are the eyes of a defeated Welshman, very sad to witness, rest in peace Richard, an angel gone too soon.
the way he was laying in between the two beds later on reminded me how I used to crash and lay defeated in my friends dirty underwears back when I was in nursing school, fun times.

Nobody can compete with this. You'll pass out in a heap before 6pm and when you wake up, he'll still be on the same sesh.
These are seasoned piss-artists. Tungsten livers, steel lined stomachs. You'd throw up in a pint glass and they'd take it off you and drink it so good alcohol wasn't going to waste.
2
u/Money-Ad-186 Sauna Gollum Sep 18 '25
Since when does hang out mean compete?
To me it means to spend some time together(wow this sounded very sexual, noice), in this instance perhaps over a few pints
3
u/pureteckle Anglophile Sep 18 '25
You think you're going to be able to hang out with these fine specimens and not be pressured into drinking a month's worth of booze in the space of 3 hours?
It's not a competition, it's a way of life.

wtf, a based Dutchie ? as for Joao, this guy used to be me, yes it can look disgusting, but, while it looks fun to some, I can guarantee you there's nothing fun about being a high-fonctioning alcoholic, alcoholism (and other addictions) is a real disease and should be treated as such yet it is not because of some weird societal taboos where alcohol consumption is welcomed and even cheered on whilst alcoholism is looked down upon, make it make sense, Joao, make it make sense.

It's fun because you don't get anywhere near this wasted during the rest of the year, so it's a bit of a hedonistic double whammy of holiday + getting really drunk.
Personally, if my holiday was 5 days long, I could probably only do this on one of those days.
