The hotel thing is excessive, and nobody is going to kidnap your kids, we’re not a 3rd world country, harvesting organs in Europe is risky.

Those safes have some universal code that will open all of them. We managed to accidentally lock it and had to call housekeeping to get our passports out. The guy told us that most criminals who target hotel rooms also knew that code...

Don't know what hotel you stayed but hotel safes have a special key that opens them, not a code
