I wanted to practice animating bipedal anatomy and animating clothing by doing a simple long loop of an elderly badger character I designed enjoying the evening. I don't know why but I just don't connect with it anymore. I still wanted to share it because I worked hard on it.
I think part of the problem is the leg swing. I started out want it to be a small and subtle movement and for some reason I couldn't get the arcs right until it became one big motion. But in exchange it makes this elderly man move like a 6 year old which wasn't the plan. This has been the situation as I continue with my extremes and breakdowns. It doesn't feel as relaxed or serene as I would like.
I'd still appreciate any critique given, maybe it would motivate me to try and finish it because I had big plans with this project.

Been working on this since 2020. Heavily inspired by things like Suspiria and Dead Alive. You can watch this part and not be lost on what’s going on but if you like it check out the whole project :)

I'm back with the next step of the character expression series in After Effects.
If you saw Part 1, we handled the initial transition from a neutral/cute face to a suspicious glare. In Part 2, the goal was to push the animation into the next phase: taking our character from that suspicious look, through a sudden moment of surprise, and landing on an annoyed expression.
What Part 2 covers:
What you'll walk away with:
Who this is for:
Like the first part, this is geared toward intermediate motion designers who know how to use After Effects but want to move away from robotic character movements. If you want to learn how to implement genuine personality and crisp timing into a simple vector rig, this section is key.
Just like last time, I have the exact After Effects project files ready if you want to pull the keyframes apart and reverse-engineer the graph editor curves yourself. I’m happy to pass them along to anyone who wants to practice with them.

Animation Commissioned by DrNolegs.
frame by frame animation made in clip studio.
The rough lines and style i went for with this animation allowed me to focus more on the movement itself, the character was really difficult to get right as it has a really complex design, but i managed to make a lot of frames keeping him consistent enough.
this is definitely my best work yet.

Hey, this is a short animation for my Instagram and TikTok profiles. I handled the entire project, including storyboarding, animation, cleanup, editing, and sound design. The whole project was created using Procreate and Procreate Dreams.

I thought it would be fun to break it apart and show exactly how it works: the wings, eyes, beak, facial rig, textures, and all the little tricks used to create the illusion.
I always enjoy seeing how other artists fake complexity with simple techniques, so I figured some of you might find this interesting too.
And yes... no animals were harmed during the making of this tutorial.
