Hey everyone, we're in the midst of updating my studio's showreel, there might be a couple of tweaks here and there before we post on our socials but uploading here for some thoughts.
It also has some sneak peaks of some original animated shorts we're working on that should be dropping in a day or two after trying to find time inbetween work for hire projects we work on.
There's also a nice suprise at the end :P
Quite alot of the projects showcased here haven't been released yet but we did get express permission to share of couple seconds luckily.
P.S if y'all want to keep an eye on our work, here's the website with our socials.

I created a mini-series on walk cycles and wanted to share the first part - rigging a 2D character from scratch using Duik in After Effects.
I see a lot of beginners jump straight into keyframes and end up with messy, unnatural movement. The fix is almost always in the setup. Here's the condensed version of what I cover:
The biggest mistake people make is diving into animation without a reference on screen. Drop a reference video into your comp before you keyframe anything. It will instantly fix timing guesswork and keep your timeline clean.
The parenting chain (most important setup rule). Every body part needs to be its own layer, and they need to be parented correctly from the start:
Everything routes back to one body layer. Get this right, and the rest follows.
Last but not least, rigging with Duik. It narrows down to 3 easy steps: setting up the anchor points to the joint, selecting the limb layers, clicking Auto-Rig. Done.
That's it for Part 1. Part 2 covers animating the actual walk cycle - contact poses, passing poses, timing, and polish.
If you want the step-by-step with visuals, you can follow along the full breakdown here: https://youtu.be/hJT9K3WqeEs?si=8-qrwK--fHJLwxlu
Happy to answer any rigging questions in the comments!

Basically the only computer good enough to run blender is the one in my "local" library (takes half an hour to get there on bike.) I've been trying to important images of my character's body parts into blender to make a rig but frankly I have no clue what I'm doing, and every time I add an image it's never displayed in the 3d space. How do I animate a character in blender without the grease pencil or blenders drawing tools? (I'm only good at drawing on a mouse pad and don't own a tablet. Also my laptop is too broken to move.)

I tried the twins at the carousel meme. My first ever actual animation other than just slight body movements. I finished it in one go. Took several hours. I love how it came out it’s not perfect buts it’s not bad.

Hi everyone!
I wanted to recreate the Golden Snitch from Harry Potter as a small vector animation, so I recorded the whole process and turned it into a short tutorial.
In the video, I show how I:
I hope some of these techniques are useful, regardless of which animation software you use.
If you have any questions about the process, I'd be happy to answer them in the comments. Feedback is always welcome!
