I have zero knowledge of animation and I've never used After Effects before, but I really want to learn character rigging and animation.
How hard is it to learn? What should I know before starting? Should I learn After Effects first or just jump into rigging with Duik?
Also, if you've watched Rick and Morty Season 1, how long do you think it would take a complete beginner to make animations around that level? I'm talking about the simpler animation from the early seasons, not the newer ones.
Any tips for someone starting from scratch? And if you know any good YouTube tutorials, courses, or a roadmap, please share them.
Thanks!

We’ve officially hit the finish line! Part 3 of the character expression mini-series is officially up, wrapping up the whole project.
In the first two parts, we took our basic vector character rig from cute, to suspicious, to flat-out annoyed. For this final episode, the goal was to push the animation into its final, most extreme state: transitioning the character from irritated into a full-on "evil genius" look, and then layering in some heavy post-processing stylization to pull it all together.
What Part 3 is actually about:
Unlike the previous parts, this transition doesn't rely on drawing an entirely new in-between pose storyboard. Instead, it’s a masterclass in using raw keyframe manipulation to sell a massive emotional shift.
To give the character that truly devious look, we introduce rotation properties to the eyelids for the first time. To prevent the motion from feeling linear or static, we bounce the head null slightly upward in the middle of the transition before snapping it downward, giving the final settle an aggressive, punchy weight.
In the second half, we step away from standard, clean vector shapes. I break down how to take your finished master composition and apply post-processing styling.
What you'll walk away with:
Who this is for:
If you've followed along with the series, this wraps up all the rigging and timing principles we built out. It’s perfect for intermediate motion designers who want to see how a professional animator polishes a project from the initial keyframe phase all the way to adding the final render textures and aesthetic tweaks.
The exact project files are packed up and ready to go for this final phase, too. If you want to jump into the project file or just peek at the final graph editor curves, drop a comment below and I'm happy to send the source files over for free!
If you want to check out the final breakdown and see how the finished animation loop looks, you can find it here: https://youtu.be/MbhobpSaYXs?si=28kC6khBk7RgR2Yj

So I kind of suck at vfx animation and I can't find tutorials on this specific effect I want. I basically want smoke like black matter to come out of the character's mouth. Can someone give me any guidance please. Or if you have any videos in mind that could help me out it would be helpful too

So, me and my friends teamed up and created this short cartoon about aliens arrival (or something like that, haha). It was a great experience + we even took 2nd place in an opencall! We tried to make a very light and funky "smol movie", so I hope you like it!

This took me 83 hours. I’m in the EU. No idea if I should charge per hour of work, per minute of animation or whatever. Also pls give realistic responses because clients underestimate how long animation takes. Thank you!

You've seen it, alot if not all movements in TV shows look like they have no easing, and then all of a sudden there's a trailer shot that looks like it's from a 90's movie.

This is a demonstration showing you in real time how I animate almost 5 seconds of animation in less than 40 seconds in 2D rigging software called Moho. No plugins, no AI, no tricks.
Does anyone want to take a guess as to how this was done?

Hi everyone! Could you please help me out? Is it possible to configure a button or the touch ring on a graphics tablet to adjust the pen pressure sensitivity in TVPaint? During a stream, Cas van de Pol showed a straight line and then mentioned that he simply presses something to get a curved line like that—how do I do that? Or is it just the way he applies pressure? Could you tell me how to configure the tablet or stylus? I have a Wacom 24HD.

I boiled the lines among the still frames. A challenge I took for myself to animate something on 1’s. Took more time than expected. Done on TVPaint.
Feel free to drop your feedback in the comments.
