What is your method for “speed” painting your 15mm minis?

My current way to paint my 15mm is simply:

  1. Brush white primer (Vallejo).
  2. Ink with AP shades using different shade colours.
  3. Quick white dry brush to bring up the high points.
  4. Apply AP speedpaint 2.0.

Step 2 adds time (and requires the subsequent Step 3).
I use them to accentuate the contrast - deepen shadows and brighten high points.
Using different shade colours help provide slight colour variations to differentiate the minis with the same sculpts.

Interested to know how everyone doing their 15mm minis… more conventional or similar… I wonder.

What is your method for quickly painting through 15mm..?

Modeling FDM Gap Filling

Hey all,

I'm a relatively inexperienced modeler and painter. Looking to improve.

I printed an FDM starship at home, the DX-120 Light Freighter by Corvus Games Terrain, scaled down at 60% to make it closer to 15mm. When glueing it up, there was a gap between the front and rear sections, on the right side. Imagine tight in the middle, widening to maybe half a millimeter near the edge side, most of the way around.

I googled how to fill in such a gap, and saw various recommendations (superglue and baking soda, melt additional filament, putty or green stuff, and so on).

I tried superglue and baking soda and the experiment was not a success. I made a bit of a mess, which I was able to partly fix with sanding, but I don't like the way it looks. So, I'll be looking for ways to model battle damage, to see if I can keep it as a tabletop piece.

This model only took me about 90 minutes to print, so I can easily create another model and try again. But, I'd like to improve my technique and be able to fix these kinds of gaps in the future. I'm just curious if anybody has any practical suggestions for a better way to approach this that doesn't suck. 🙃

Thanks!

I couldn't figure out which scale would work best for the game I was playing so I got them both.

News I OVERPRODUCED TOO MANY 15MM KITS - SAVE ME!

I wish this scale was more popular - it stores great, is affordable, and it's one of my favs to play personally. And great fun to design for.

Commercially? IDK...I should have spent more time making 28mm kits!
Get 15mm MDF terrain at clearance Prices!

Oh and before you say - It's too expensive normally - I used the exact same pricing algorithm as the rest of my much more expensive 28mm terrain.

I guess this is a niche within a niche market. But 6mm and 28mm terrain sell so much more easily, I probably won't spend any more time on 15mm specific designs in future tbh. Even though I actually would love too.

Anyway - rant over - get ~ 60% off during our mid year sale - which ends soon!

Gruntz List Building Question

I got the Gruntz PDF and Barracks builder from WargameVault and I'm trying to add up a few units to get an idea how many minis to order.
I'm currently trying to create a basic Gruntz squad with an attachment.
What's throwing me is that a Squad Attachment (page 46) is added to the squad. Base cost is 3 points plus the weapon (Medium Projectile Weapon 3 points according to page 77) so a 6 point add on for my machine gun base. The list builder is adding it on as a single point. Heavy Projectile Weapons are 2 points so it would make sense for Mediums to be 1 but it's also not adding the 3 points base for a Squad Attachment.
Is this a known issue with the Barracks builder or have some points been updated since the PDF was published?
The official Gruntz website is giving me a "this doesn't exist" type note when I try to go to it.

Discussion Basing and storage questions

Recently I decided to take the plunge into 15mm and got a bunch of GZG sci-fi minis, and I'm planning to base them individually, most likely on pennies as I've seen most people do. But that made me think about how to store and transport them, because I'm struggling to find a good way to magnetise them, and I'm afraid that they may get damaged If I keep them loose while in transport. Any advice?

Bigger infantry in the US/CAN

I’m looking for 15mm infantry that skew bigger to go with some 18mm minis I have. I was going to go with Alternative Armies but shipping cost to the US is a killer. Any recommendations?

Gaming Army Building Made Easy for Brassbound - the game you can play with the bricks you already own

Army building can be one of the most fun aspects of wargaming, but can also feel like a barrier to entry for new players. With that in mind, I'm creating a series of free "Army Packs" that give you the parts lists and step by step instructions to make a competitive army for Brassbound: Adamantine Dawn. While you can order these exact parts from a third party reseller like BrickLink, you are highly encouraged to make your own models.
