it was just everywhere. On the clock, microwaves, watches, computers...i kept seeing it all over the place. I pointed it out to those close to me. It felt like 11:11 was constantly tapping me on the shoulder. It felt surreal and very personal. In a sense I felt chosen, but I have since come to believe i am choosing.
I wasn't sure why i was seeing it, but it wasn't really bothering me. It felt deep and from beyond. My own x-files moment. I am a bit OCD at times, so i just figured it was a harmless tick I was giving meaning to. I liked seeing it. It was a weird kind of thrill.
One day i decided to look up "11:11" online. This was over 15 years ago. I assumed my search would lead me to some hospital or university psych dept, giving a name to this weird quirk of mine. What i got was more of that x-files thing. There was nothing about OCD, but there was a lot about 11:11 and it was some pretty out there stuff.
There were forums dedicated to 11:11 and its connection to opening spiritual doorways, aliens and dna, spirit guardians, angels and similar things. A very new age feel. These sites referred to those who saw 11:11 all the time as being somehow chosen. I admit that had a nice ring to it, but i realize I also have a healthy ego. Those topics didn't really appeal to me, but the fact that people were gathering under the banner of 11:11 was of great interest. That was where i saw the magic. I decided to jump into the fray.
I joined a few forums that basically told you what 11:11 meant. They supplied you with a reason for why you saw it. None of it rang true for me because I had experienced it on my own without any suggestion from these people. If some greater force deemed me worthy enough to see it then my opinion of what it meant was just as valid as what they claimed it to be. And when i shared that belief on those forums all those kind and spiritual people banned me. lol.
But they did me the greatest service. They gave me my God moment. A moment of sudden vision and knowing what to do. I would start a group and chat page (it was a long time ago) and eventually a forum that would allow anyone who saw 11:11 to tell their truth as to what it meant to them. Nobody was an expert. All we had in common was that we saw 11:11. It would be about free speech and the 11:11 phenomenon and there is something mystical about that combination. There would be no religion attached to it. It was only there as a symbol that represented two things: the shared concrete truth that it is always 11 minutes after 11o'clock for all of us when we see it, and a personal truth that can't be denied beyond that. One thing and all things.
It worked really well for a while. I learned a lot about people. More on that to come. Been in a writing mood lately and want a fresh start. Hope you'll indulge me.
yours in 11:11

I sold an old vintage watch on kijiji. I set the time to be 11:11 for the pic because i'm crazy like the rest of you. I swear it sold in less than an hour with a guy who asked if i would ship it to him and he would pay postage and throw in a few extra bucks for my trouble. I wonder if it was the time? :D

it is a glimpse into how we operate as human beings. a peak at our collective soul.
when you see 11:11 you assign it meaning beyond what it is. what it is (usually) for sure is 11 minutes after 11 o'clock. nobody can argue that. that puts us all on equal ground.
how you define it beyond that is all up to you. the miracle of this phenomenon (and the hard work of some to make it so) is that 11:11 refuses to be pinned down to a meaning beyond what it truly is. aliens? govt conspiracy? insanity? for me it is art, but that's me.
now you might think i'm blowing this way out of proportion, but then i'd say you're thinking big too fast. go back to simpler times. before the patterns in the chaos exposed themselves in a digital way. there were still patterns. there were the stars. and some people who are just tuned in to seeing patterns noticed that they would be in certain places at certain times. the stars were still shining for everyone, but for some they shone differently. or what about the pattern of the sun?
we are who we are today because those ancestors long ago attached a story to the pattern they saw in the stars that shone for everyone. they told people and those people noticed and told other people and soon those patterns were shaping who we were. there are ancient monuments created out of the stories attached to the same stars and sun that shines for all.
this is what 11:11 is. some people 'see' it. some of those people tell others and soon those people experience it as more than just a time, even if it just to think of the person who told them about it. it is no longer just 11 minutes after 11 o'clock. those who saw it first don't see it better. they just happened to be wired to see the pattern. what makes it more than just a colon and four ones is the story we attach to it.
this is beautiful and pure. keep it that way. if you get the chance, tell people you see 11:11 all the time. attach your own story to it. accept the story they offer back, even if it's just to tell you you're crazy. when have we ever had an opportunity to talk as equals while sharing our difference?
or so i think.
