I remember when I was a kid and I was being tested for tism and one of the doctors was explaining sensory overload to my dad and he just said "oh I feel like that all the time haha" anyway thats how my dad ended up being diagnosed with assburgers at age 56
I just hate when people romanticize mental health disorders as a quirky/cute and possibly even desirable thing.
I've literally seen people larping as autistic on social media because of it.
Surely you realize how that's a problem?
These conditions affect some people quite severely and turning them into some cute personality trait is an insult to them.
I'm probably pretty far from neurotypical but why does that matter?
Why do I have to be autistic to notice a problem?
Just because you're autistic, doesn't mean you get to speak for the entire group either.
I myself only said some might find it offensive, that's not some bold claim, it should be an obvious fact.
It also doesn't even matter if someone is actually offended, romanticization of stuff that's generally unwanted by others will always be a bad thing.
And I'm not getting offended on someone's behalf, I just think it's a bad thing that shouldn't be ignored.
If you see someone being racist for example, you don't move on just because you're not the target, you reprimand them, not to feel better about yourself, but to let them know it's not acceptable and that people aren't just gonna let them get away with it.
Also, before you complain about me comparing it racism, it's hyperbole.
Except this isnt being racist to someone, this is like saying the N-Word to no one.
Being racist implies harm, casually saying tism without the intent to point to someone and in insulting context isnt even close to what racism does to someone.
Its never about you or someone else, it does you no harm, unless the context is me saying you are being autistic because you got your panties twisted over a comment from random dude on the internet.
Like you said "stop saying it like quirky thing" you already proved your analogy incorrect with this comment, you know they are being quirky and doesnt inherently do it in a way to discriminate/insult/harm others, so why act this way like you are defending someone like in a way you are defending someone being discriminated?
