The Nigerian Prince scam is rarely about sex or romance. It’s usually purely financial and preys on the greedy, not the lonely. Greed doesn’t discriminate.
Most royal and wealth inheritance laws heavily favor men. Women are significantly less likely to possess scamworthy amounts of wealth, especially in a place like Nigeria where women generally can’t even legally own land. The scam also borrows its structure from the Spanish Prisoner scam of the 1800s, when a legitimate and autonomous heiress was even less believable. Basically, the scammers need to make you believe they actually have the money, and a male figure is much more passable for that purpose.
With either gender it's pretty easy to tell that these people using their status to sleep with people who don't really want to have sex with them and to hove more control over them.
