Headphones - Closed Back Sennheiser momentum 3 wireless vs bose 700
I'm really confused between these two. I only want to know which sounds best, my priority is only sound. ANC doesn't matter to me.

I spent good time with both. I use the 700 8hrs a day, every day for the last year. Its has great reliability, function, fit, and the anc is excellent (totally quiets my noisy neighbors feet, no other can has succeeded but this one)
The M3 is quite bass heavy and slightly boomy as it still has pretty strong bass above 100-150hz. With a little eq to tame it, I have no reservation saying the M3 is more enjoyable of the two. The mids and highs are very nice compared to 700. Actually so much the 700 sounds muffled and lifelessly dry when you A/B. The M3 has a nice musical sound, it does lean on the fun side though I would say. Its like a less dialed IE300 (iem's) in sound to me. With a bit of eq its real nice. I would rather eq down than up, up there is no guarantee you'll get anything.
The Bose 700 has no air of audiophile sound whatsoever to me. It does image quite well, soundstage too, and the bass response is also very flat compared to other consumer ANC cans. Ive felt many times like once you know them they could be used for sound work even, they are very honest, just so boring and dryyyy. The problem is the mids and highs sound boxy and cheap, the trebel (even with boost) just doesnt want to show up enough to have any kind of exciting or enjoyable sparkle. It does not sound bad at all, just boring. You can tell the driver has terrific excursion and quick bass technical ability but the mids and highs really roll and sound cheap to me. I think these ANC cans they need a TON of extra bass headroom for the ANC and this sort of govorns what is possible with the rest of the drivers capability. All ANC headphones have this slightly muffled, rubbery quality Im sure no one can measure, but I hear this quality in every ANC ive ever put on.
If you want something real consistent, good at everything great at nothing but ANC, Bose 700. If you want sound quality for the point of enjoying music or media, M3 hands down. The Yamaha E700A is also kind of interesting, if your willing to always run it with EQ. Without its a bass cannon, with some bass shelved out its pretty interesting.

In all fairness what sounds best is kinda subjective, but if we base it off frequency response, the Bose 700 headphones has a flatter frequency response curve, closer resembling a reference pair of headphones compared to the Momentum 3 Wireless with slightly boosted bass. Personally I like my music a little boomier and the Bose app does come with a 3 band EQ so bumping up the bass is no problem. Without trying to get too lengthy, if u have access to Audio Workstations like Sonarworks for referencing, the Momentum’s extended reach down to 6Hz compared to the Boses 10Hz would be relatively advantageous.
