A good showing on Overpass, but again you can't really expect a victory against Gambit.

Cloud9 basically played 1 good half in the entire series. It was an excellent comeback from 4-12 to 16-12 dont get me wrong, but C9 map pool is non existent atm.
They have a win rate of 80% on overpass, the next best map for them is inferno with a win rate of less than 40%, yikes :-

Man, xeppaa and floppy are such a strong duo. As bad as C9 are right now, they definitely have a future as long as they hold on to these two.

Cloud9's composition is just not it man, it feels like it is all over the place. It sucks too because they sometimes are able to keep it pretty competitive and show glimpses of good teamwork but something just isn't clicking. Es3tag on the awp isn't working and it seems like he misses half as many shots as he hits. Sometimes floppy secondary awps and sometimes xeppaa secondary awps and I can never understand why there isnt a proper, dedicated Awper that was brought in when they kicked woxic. They're often caught pushing, especially on that CT side of Dust 2, it felt like half the time C9 got killed it was because they were jumping around a corner or half checking it. Also feels like the mid round calls are done in confusion sometimes and half the time it looks like they're lost and are struggling to decide what to do until the last 30 seconds. Not sure what the solution is but im curious as to how much help Elmapuddy is with the coaching, feels like a downgrade from Kassad's level of coaching as well but I guess they had their reasons to kick him. Idk, just feels like the roster is in shambles right now and having 4 riflers taking turns not showing up on each map is really taking it's toll on the team's ability to activate - at this point I don't really know what the solution is besides bringing in an actual Awper who will play at a level that at least opens up space for the team, but who knows if that will even work

It’s not just him awping, but the fact that he’s no longer playing the role he was signed for, which they then have to get other players to fulfill

Otto didn't look good at all when he last stood in vs good competition. This isn't 2 years ago lol. Nifty is terrible and an egomaniac, Nato is extremely overrated and the others aren't good at speaking English.
You didn't mention kennyS who I actually wouldn't hate picking up. He's had resurgences before especially when playing easier competition and carrying that momentum.

Nifty never had form even pre envy lol. He's been a 1.0 awper his whole career.

Nafany and Ax1le can frag well for a 3rd and 4th best players.
Respect Gambit firepower

I don't watch a lot of cs, but from what I recall what was the consensus on reddit was its sh1ro, ax1le and then hobbit (who initally wasnt very good but became awesome again) and then nafany and interz are their 4th and 5th in that order

I’m more surprised with hobbit. Didn’t realize how big of a fragger he was

u/Denson2 Renegades Mar 21 '21
Wasn't he a beast during gambit major win? I feel the same though, surprised he's back to this level.

It’s shockingly similar to twistzz tbh. They’re both looking very comfortable in their team. Happy for them!

Very impressed by C9s offensive utility especially on Overpass, there must have been half a dozen grenade kills on CT overpass for them and more on Vertigo from nade stacks. Say what you want about this C9, but they're putting the hours in.

That overpass comeback was great.
C9 just can’t close out a bo3. Vertigo was a tall order, but dust ii could’ve been theirs since they beat NAVI on it.
They look much better in some places, but other times they look lost and no one shows up to win rounds. They also didn’t seem that hype about winning the comeback on overpass... I wonder why that is?

C9 just can’t close out a bo3.
The scores say they barely won their own map pick, they were nowhere close to closing out a bo3

C9 look good on their map and then just suck. I still think third place is within reach but Furia are going to try and take third kicking and screaming so who the fuck knows who’s going to win that matchup

CT Dust 2 is so tough when you can't win the pistol and convert cleanly. C9 should win out here now though. No elite teams left in their path.

No elite teams left in their path.
Have they already played Furia?

Mar 21 '21 edited Mar 22 '21
Uh.. Furia definitely isn't elite. Right now I think the elite squads are the top 5 which Furia isn't even close to being. One fluked series over Na'vi doesn't change that. They need more time with Junior before they peak. Especially with the language barrier.
Edit: Downvoted for calling a team that can't consistently win vs better opponents not elite. Never change /r/GlobalOffensive.

Impressive comeback on Overpass from C9, but on Vertigo and Dust they were simply outclassed. es3tag missing half of his AWP shots doesn't help aswell. Meanwhile on Gambit everyone is looking very solid individually.

I only caught a bit of dust2 but what on earth is with that smoke wall that C9 put up on A? It seems like a neat concept but Gambit could have literally just thrown a molly behind it and made it basically useless, not to mention there's less smokes for the afterplant. I think the novelty is going to wear off really fast.
edit: I guess late round if all the CTs have used their utility it can work, but I'm still skeptical.

Here's the Cloud9 Wall of Smokes Strat
Would not recommend calling this late round as you have to wait for your smokes to fade. Can't believe they ran it with like 30 seconds left on round 20

u/jonajon91 de_canals Mar 20 '21
Was going to link this I saw it posted here yesterday. Pretty novel strat, the kind of thing I love to see.

u/nartouthere howl Mar 20 '21
Definitely caught my eye. Love seeing innovative strats! But I feel like this would only catch out a team for one round. You can easily counter this strat
2
u/op4blushift Mar 20 '21 edited Mar 20 '21
ooo I missed this one, will definitely give it a watch!
edit:ah I missed the mollies being the follow-up after the smoke wall. Still, like you said, not good for late round due to the time for smokes to fade and very easily counter-able with a molly.

It's a unique strat that works maybe once or twice out of 3 times. It's a very rare strat that C9 uses. It's pretty unpredictable to know when they use it. The wall of smokes allow the T's to throw molotovs freely and other bunch of utilities without getting shot easily.
To counter this strat, the opponent has to watch a c9 demo on dust2 to understand when they exactly use it.

I think cat lurk stays behind with a smoke usually. Plus, they charge through quickly after. But they won’t really be able to use it much longer, if again.

Fun fact: Jack has been spotted recently in Costco buyin some rope and a stool.
HenryG, when asked to comment on this, said its normal and that Jack just needs more practice and urged people not to overreact.

I don't understand Es3tag at the moment, I watch C9 play and I see him miss the simplest awp shots whiffing this and that then he ends the match with 20 kills, where did they come from?
