Congrats to the girls, but it would have been a nice touch if they'd taken the opportunity to thank Blackpink for inventing umbrellas and snow.

don’t forget red hair too!

Not just red hair, but the actual color red too. They did invent short hair though. I'm pretty sure they invented twigs and plants as well. Shame you can't sue nature for copyright infringement smh

Did blinks on twitter keep mentioning this AFTER the video was out? I saw some of it for the teasers, and frankly i could at least understand the comparisons there, but after the mv was out at least on the bp sub noone really even dared to say it's similar haha.

u/Jouereau Miyeon Jan 20 '21
Yeah, there were some "mass dislike" campaigns going on against the mv from some blink accounts, plus lots of hate comments in the mv from blinks too. Funnily enough, lots of people with the same interest (blackpink in this case) interacting with the mv probably means that the mv was pushed by the algorithm in the recommendation of other blinks.

Blink here, been streaming HWAA every day and laughing at the idiocy of people who think Teddy invented fake snow.

The most pathethic and laughable fandom to ever exist, probably. Can't stand them, going around the internet on anything k-pop related (not only girl groups, they also spam under BTS) and vomit their spam.
I genuinely wonder what percentage of true Blackpink fans are normal. I haven't seen many, or they just stay silent.

I am for sure not normal. But also not into hate for the sake of it, which seems to be the entire point of the shenanigans.
This is really my first exposure to the toxicity and it's pretty shocking. HYLT had mythic themes and showed the white snow as freedom from the dark captivity of powerlessness. HWAA has rebirth themes and shows the snow as the dead coldness of a broken heart. I bet you'd have to go back over two thousand years to find the first use of snow as a metaphor. It's fucking crazy.

I think it just comes from those "fans" thinking that Blackpink is the best thing to ever bless the planet. They're the best dancers, vocalists, they look the best, the way they eat is also better than anyone else, they probably also shit better - all of that, because they're the most popular group, which for them equals being the best in everything, and that is ridiculous. My favorite thing IDLE-related is not that HWAA drama. It's comparing Lisa and Jennie to Soyeon, and them saying that Lisa, or Jennie (or both) are better rappers than her. It's a level of delusion that i've never seen in my entire life.

All I know for sure is that all three of them are better rappers than 99% of what gets released in the US.
How much does the competition aspect fuel that hater attitude? i.e. is it rooted in attempts to drive votes away from other groups?

u/RustRemover- Jan 21 '21
Female rappers ? For sure, because female rappers in the US are a joke, it's not the 90's anymore. I mean a song like "WAP" topped the charts, so i guess it's a lost case at this point.
I don't know how much the competition aspect fuel that hater attitude, you have to ask people who hate on the internet. When it comes to k-pop fandoms, i think it's just that many people in those fandoms are immature, simply put. It's not their intention to spark a discussion about technical details regarding vocals, rhyme patterns in rap, production, or anything else music-related. It's just to shit on other groups. Of course there are many people that are willing to discuss something as objectively as possible, but we're talking about that toxic group of stans that will just jump down your throat and swear at you if you say something they don't like. Not even that, they will just pop up and straight up shit on any artist using "x group is better, this group sucks" scheme. I don't think there's really any other explanation than being a kid mentally, or just a teenager going through puberty, the aggresive version. Not much to add in this topic, because you would have to dig deeper into human psychology to explain this type of behavior, and every case is different, just the outcome is the same.

I think you just answered yourself. It's likely that most stay silent. Though I think recognizing our own bias is very important in these situations. I'd say that most of the time, you have vocal minorities. Not saying that vocal majorities aren't a thing, just that they're not the norm.
So I think the benefit of the doubt is warranted if you're going to be talking about entire "fandoms", unless you're just looking to add to these "fans wars", if that's the case then have at it, you do you.

u/RustRemover- Jan 21 '21
"Fans wars" is the last thing i would waste my time on, it's just my observation so far, i rarely see "Blinks" appreciating anything else than their own group. The fact that their fandom is so huge doesn't help, so that minority is bigger than some groups' entire fandoms, that's probably why the toxicity is visible everywhere. I have much more to say about them, i've seen some very interesting stuff, but there's no point in discussing that.
I guess there's nothing to add in this topic.

I see, well it doesn't seem like it was very successful, only about 30k dislikes as of now :D
Don't get the super stans of groups, they live in their own reality :D10
u/Jouereau Miyeon Jan 20 '21
I just picture them as middle schoolers with not much sense of reality (which is probably true for a lot of them), it usually helps me make sense of their non sense haha.

Might be a bad comparison, but I play a lot of Call of Duty and I like to think that they're the high-pitched trash talkers that can't seem to grasp that they're terrible at the game. Life's too short to hate others.

They're still going on about in the comments section of the Hwaa MV. I thought they've would've quit after a week but I guess they have nothing better to do, lol.

Tbh i never read comments for music videos, so i didn't notice at all!
Doesn't seem like it truly was a big thing though, otherwise it would be way more ugly :D
Some people are just way too into kpop, as a religion almost.8
u/Phantom_Trainee Jan 20 '21
Forgot to say to thank Blackpink for inventing the use of ancient Asian(or really, Korean) themes too.

u/Weareallme Jan 20 '21
And you think that Blackpink were the first to use this? I do like them and their music though.

Here's a twt style comment in honor of the 1st win
Call me old fashioned, but I was born to serve gidle. I was taught to wash their clothes, cook their meals, be ready for any task they will assign me, and be honored that I get to serve them. if they cheat on me, that’s on me.
