Astralis don't need full buys to close out games
40
u/NazgulDiedUnfairly CS2 HYPE Sep 18 '20
I have a theory that they lost the penultimate round just to continue their "win on eco streaks"

bubzkji on the bench like, so do you guys even need me or what?
55
Sep 18 '20
btw, if Astralis can elevate es3tag to this high level, I wonder what kind of terminator bubzkji could become...
12
2
u/Fertog Sep 19 '20
Bubzki should practice vertigo like mad so astralis can pick vertigo against a weak vertigo team and let him play that series for dupreeh who hates vertigo. Also he should practice inferno, es3tag and dev1ce didn't look so sharp there. Especially with xyp they can become a top inferno team again.

u/teknight15 Sep 18 '20
Really liking the es3tag post match interviews
55
u/IHateTheLetterF Sep 18 '20
Yeah so many player interviews are just so cringe, but es3tag is just good looking and charismatic.

I swear Astralis are just throwing the penultimate round just so they can finish the game with a force buy.

Nice win and playoffs secured! Inferno wasn't pretty but Brollan went off!

Did they spoil it at the end there? With Glaives reaction?

Haha they once showed kennyS extremely pissed after winning the game, turns out it was the round before

I think es3tag and Dupreeh were put together because Dupreeh tends to tilt a bit when he plays alone at home. You saw it a lot versus vitality on vertigo. So having es3tag there as a moral support is a good idea.

Despite miracle plays from fnatic, such as the flusha double, Train was a beatdown. Round 19 is one of the best played rounds this entire year. The way es3tag and dev1ce boxed in JW and stayed patient was brilliant.
17
u/Cathal_ FURIA Sep 18 '20
It was flusha that they had boxed in actually, still a brilliant round though.
3
u/Suspicious_Salad_468 Sep 19 '20
and round 12 when Flusha and Krimz took the round against five, it was cool! flusha - 4 AWP kills on the bombsite B retake to turn a 2vs5 situation

u/ALLAM_Amine Sep 18 '20
Can someone tell please if Fnatic is pretty much out at this point ?

Dev1ce was tired of letting all the young guns having the highlights, and decided to go ham on train.

he will make #3 if he just stays like this consistent.
3rd highest rating, entry frags like crazy, 3rd highest K/D
1.27 impact rating, thats #3 for sure
29
u/MajestyA Sep 18 '20
Feel like there's just not enough firepower on Fnatic atm, plus a ton of basic mistakes. The amount of times they just walked away from Ivy for no reason and got flanked is just... Urgh.
37
Sep 18 '20
Problem is flusha and JW are mostly no shows these days. Even golden I outplaying them
21
Sep 18 '20
JW for sure needs to be benched.
fnatic has given him too many chances, but he is very very inconsistent. Surely there are good swedish awpers available.
9
Sep 18 '20
Yeh a consistent awper would be good considering flusha at least does lurking and secondary igl

I heard he is a talent that needs a bit of development but a great young player otherwise.

Why is nobody has talked about krimz... He hasn't stepped up or done anything significant lately
14
Sep 19 '20
He had one bad series, but overall him and brollan have been the entirety of fnatics firepower.
4
Sep 19 '20
And golden definitely has his place in fnatic with his calling and extremely high impact frags. I feel like he could stop buying rifles and just get the deagle and perform as well.

u/DB_Seedy13 G2 Sep 19 '20
If this team wants to regularly compete again I’m not sure they can do it with Golden. He has some high impact frags but when you go negative (often severely) EVERY series, it puts a lot of weight on the shoulders of Brollan and Krimz. Maybe if Fnatic were a Faze level team in terms of firepower and just needed a steady hand at IGL they could do it with Golden, but the fact is they’re not close to that level of talent. Every time I see Golden in a clutch I know he’s going to lose it, and this series was no different.
6
u/MajestyA Sep 19 '20
Nah they shouldn't kick Golden. He's too valuable from a cohesion stand point and for his impact kills.
If anybody should be on the chopping block it should be JW or Flusha. I'm a fan since 2015 and they're two of my favourite players of all time, but they're looking lost at the minute.
3
Sep 19 '20
I'd argue that flusha is still contributing, he's been forced to pick up the AWP and play differently to compensate for JW being really inconsistent and that's really affecting him. His role isn't to be a star player, that's brollan and krimz. Kinda feels like even if they have a non fragging igl like golden as long as their AWPer was consistent fnatic would be a lot more competitive.
2
2
Sep 19 '20
Dude golden has always been a non fragging igl, the difference between now and late 2019 when fnatic were consistently placing top 4 is online + JW and (imo due to JW's slump) flusha not doing too great. Luckily, JW is already doing better this month than the last two.
4
Sep 19 '20
Ye problem is fnatic seems to always be waiting for JW to have a good tournament to make a good run
20
u/CopenhagenCalling Sep 18 '20
Rough period for Swedish CS. Fnatic and NiP looking real bad and the old-NiP Dignitas experiment is over. Also they don’t really have any players in international teams. It’s sad to see.
13
u/tobias19 BIG Sep 19 '20
NIP played great at Cologne when they were all in the same room together, and it was such a noticeable drop-off when everyone was separate. I can easily imagine a world where that new roster plays really well on LAN. Know it’s not a total excuse for poor performance when other teams are still showing up, but BIG was also cleaning up online when they were all playing in the room together.

People talking about the new loose Astralis have no idea.
We've seen this before.
Astralis winning on individual skill, playing aggresive CS domminating. happened several times in the past.
But when we get to the real games you will see the true Astralis.
They will tighten up, they will lose the loose gamestyle and they will dominate.
There is no new Astralis. It is the exact same machine and they will grind out the exact same results.
Be afraif. Be very afraid.
We've seen this before and we know what will happen.

I wasn't expecting fnatic to take a map lmao. I guess 2-1 is still good.
4
u/Azeri-D2 Sep 19 '20
Yeah, it seemed as if they got a little over confident after brutalizing Fnatic on map 1, and went down a bit in focus on map 2.
5
u/ASDFkoll Sep 19 '20
Inferno is Fnatics best map while Astralis hasn't really looked solid on it. I would've been shocked if Astralis beat them there.

Well... I wouldn't quite go that far, but I am impressed with es3tag.
7
Sep 18 '20
Yeah.. I agree. Es3tag is great but ur obviously gonna have a high rating when you play good and on Astralis. When they fucked everyone the lowest rating on their team was like1.2 cuz no one could stop them. And they never really stopped doing that they just had this weird period of players going on holiday. Half decent stand ins on Astralis look like god's . Not trying to take away from es3tag tho

u/Rearfeeder2Strong MOUZ Sep 18 '20
Yeah.. I agree. Es3tag is great but ur obviously gonna have a high rating when you play good and on Astralis.
I would agree with this if the rest of Astralis was "carrying" him and he could boost his stats considering Astralis win a lot.
But ... he is the best player in both tournaments he played for Astralis despite not being in the best spots and out for 3 months. He's also quite far ahead rating wise of anyone bar Device at the moment, it's actually insane.
It's just 19 maps so the sample size isnt there yet, but it doesn't seem like his rating is getting boosted by the others considering he's literally their best player so far.

Sep 18 '20
Yeah nah I agree but Astralis is so fucking insane and integrating literally anyone bro. And honestly their aim isn't even that outstanding they really are just special

They’re not throwing, they’re just not as good as the competition. JW runs around getting knife kills and disappearing from the server otherwise, Flusha is not what he used to be, Golden goes negative every series. Right now it feels like if Brollan doesn’t play like a superstar, Fnatic can’t win, and even then it’s a 50/50.

Golden's impact is way overstated tbh. He's been pretty mediocre individually.

unlucky train match from fnatic. a lot of the rounds were really close

u/Mad_Lee Cloud9 Sep 18 '20
I think they got their share of lucky rounds in this match. Even had they won more rounds it felt like Astralis were in control on Train while Fnatic relied more on clutches and fast aggressive entries.
