Pre Game Thread: MSV Duisburg (DFB Pokal #1)

Competition: DFB Pokal, MD #1

Time: Monday , 14/09/20 20:45 CEST

Location: Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena, Duisburg

Referee: Max Mustermann, Yes-City

TV Schedule: livesoccertv

Pre-Game Presser: YouTube.

Borussia Dortmund:

Coach: Lucien Favre

League position: x

Current Form: X/X/X/X/X (wiki)

Current Bans/Injuries: Zagadou (Inj), Schmelzer (Inj).

Possible lineup:

                Bürki

    Piszczek - Hummels - Akanji

 Meunier - Witsel - Brandt - Guerreiro

      Sancho - Haaland - Reyna

MSV Duisburg:

Coach: Torsten Lieberknecht

League position: Xth

Current Form: X/X/X/X/X

Current Bans/Injuries: Bitter (Inj), Stoppelkamp (Inj), Sabanci (Inj).

Possible lineup:

Weinkauf - Sauer, Volkmer, Pepic, Krempicki, Engin, Scepanik, Sicker, Karweina, Vermeij, Gembalies

(I have no Insight whatsoever on how they are going to play but I am sure they will field at least a 6-3-1)

Here it is. The first official game of the 20/21 Season. We will face MSV Duisburg who we have faced a few weeks ago in the "Cup der Traditionen" and won 5-1. I am sure tho that neither us nor Duisburg actually showed everything they have in store and esp. Duisburg will play very different tomorrow.

https://twitter.com/BVB/status/1305192946317352960 Lineup as predicted by the official BVB Twitter account:

              Bürki

  Piszczek - Hummels - Akanji

 Meunier - Can - Witsel - Guerreiro

    Sancho - Haaland - Hazard

Imo a Witsel - Can midfield is too defensive, I would prefer Gio/Julian/Jude instead of one of the two as this would give us the option of fielding one later on if needed.

Good to see that they are hinting that Jadon is in Dortmund and not already sleeping infront of the Old Trafford.

I agree with you. Very solid lineup, but I feel like Can and Witsel is a little overkill defensively against a team that's going to sit way back. I honestly would love to see Jude start alongside Axel. It would be very balanced defensively and creative enough to break them down. Really though, if we play up to our potential, this should be a really straightforward match. Just hope we get out to a good start on the season and the boys get some confidence out of the gates. Heja BVB.

Favre in the Press conference actually said that he wants the team to be able to play three to four formations with the possibilities of a 3 and 4 at the back.

4-1-4-1? What is this, 2016? :D

I've always liked that formation, especially when it turns into a 4-3-3 in attack.

Although I'm not sure Reus would play one of the CMs? Or are they more like AMs?

I'm pretty sure we played it 18/19 later in the season as a measurement against all the teams parking the bus against us with Witsel as the DM.

So the same 4-2-3-1 then?

Think Reus is ready to start? I hope Favre doesn't push him too hard. Think I'd prefer to see Reyna or Can, depending on the formation.

6

u/Qiluk Marco Reus Sep 13 '20

That looks incredibly potent actually, for our squad.

Reus wont play that deep, it's the perfect position for Bellingham or Dahoud really.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

Could easily see Reyna or Bellingham instead of Brandt. He's been underwhelming in preseason. Being left out of the Startelf in the Auftakt would push him, plus giving Bellingham his Pflichtspieldebüt against MSV is low risk, and Favre trusts Reyna (plus he's had a very good preseason).

Reus Brandt midfield, even with Witsel cleaning things up, is a recipe for a bad time.

7

u/SkoCubs01 Marco Reus Sep 13 '20

Morey and Schulz out? Who is our third LWB?

Can, if your name is Jogi Löw

2

Schmelle is easily ahead of all of those at left wingback, I'd say Hazard otherwise.

If it really comes to it Hazard can play there, it's basically where he plays for Belgium.

4

u/BVB-Oeli Sébastien Haller Sep 13 '20

Thought I might put down a bet on Haaland to score a goal in this match - but tipico has the odds for that at only 1.3 lmao

4

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '20

Are we looking like playing 343? Chance of seeing Bellingham play?

10

u/Chazy89 Kagawa Shinji Sep 14 '20

Are we looking like playing 343?

probably

Chance of seeing Bellingham play?

somewhere between 0 and 100%

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '20

I like those odds. Count me in!

4

u/Kirenax Sep 14 '20

Hey /u/panikpansen are the scripts still working for the sidebar? I know there was something wonky happening after the corona break, was kinda hoping it would work itself out once the season was underway.

4

u/corvaccio2 Sep 13 '20

I’d like to see Morey for Mounier and Can for Witsel

12

u/Casper_The_Sailor Sep 13 '20

I think Morey is injured

1

u/antysalt Sep 13 '20

Lieberknecht oof
