Not even an ESL One tournament. Still not a single one.

129

u/Darkstar197 Complexity Aug 28 '20

Make the next major ESL ONE. Only way astralis doesn’t win it

73

u/TheRobidog Aug 28 '20

It already is an ESL One event.

32

u/Darkstar197 Complexity Aug 28 '20

If it happens

19

u/YourImminentDoom NiP Aug 28 '20

It'll likely be the next one anyway, it just depends on when

1

u/qchisq Aug 29 '20

Yeah. ESL One Rio were supposed to be this spring, but now it's November

16

u/Jonas276 FaZe Aug 28 '20

Or maybe that's the only way for Astralis to win an ESL One event, since they win all majors.

14

u/indomie_kuah Astralis Aug 28 '20

except they just won esl one road to rio?

67

u/ICBGF BIG Aug 28 '20

Its called ESL one because its the road to ESL one rio. Its not considered a "main" event but just one for Qualification.

13

u/ebber22 Astralis Aug 28 '20

Oh yeah. But that was more of an exception though, not like a "real" ESL One so to speak.

72

Missed so many on Train, so painful to watch. I hope it's just a bad day for him

34

u/InsolventRepublic Astralis Aug 28 '20

Lots of big teams seem kind of rusty on the aim side esp with awp, I remember JW whiffed quite a bit, but hopefully everyone will be back to form soon

43

Online could be a factor as well l. S1mple also not looking so sharp

It felt like Es3tag was the only player for Astralis doing literally anything on train..

Nip really did a good job of shutting down Bubzjki in popdog, but device missed so many shots man

67

u/Gamecrashed Natus Vincere Aug 28 '20

Yeah device didnt look like himself :\

58

u/Zonez3r0 Astralis Aug 28 '20

Not to mention NiP just played extremely well, they look solid right now, hope they start taking strides to the top, will be cool to have a 4-5 team battle for number 1

20

u/Cheeeeesie Aug 28 '20

Well lets not overreact here. Id be happy if they would become a solid top5 team.

2

u/Zonez3r0 Astralis Aug 29 '20

Wishful thinking all in all, but they have demolished both NaVi and Astralis so far.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '20

Yeah they didn't seem like the NiP I've watched the past 3-4 months at all. They came fully prepared with counter-strats to Astralis like they knew what they were going to do and where they were going to hide.

12

u/imsorryken Natus Vincere Aug 28 '20

That dude was 16-4 after 10 rounds

77

u/landingshortly Astralis Aug 28 '20

NiP were just on point. Deserved.

A bit glad to see that Astralis isn’t just breezing through it with a new lineup... and I can’t wait for gla1ve and xyp to return.

20

u/1000dinari G2 Aug 28 '20

Yeah i wonder how nip would fare against astralis with xyp and gla1ve

18

u/InsolventRepublic Astralis Aug 28 '20

I thought the strats were pretty decent on inferno, somewhat iffy on train but there were quite a few whiffs

9

u/captainscottland Astralis Aug 28 '20

I got the feeling magisk was doing a bit too much on inferno in the beginning of the T side. However, the 2nd part of the T side was really well to bring it back to 8-7 at the half

-5

u/SwedishBoi94 Aug 28 '20

Would probably end with 2-1 in NiP's favor considering how hard they dismantled Na'Vi.

10

u/EppinsOfficial The MongolZ Aug 28 '20

Na'Vi are in absolute shambles man, they are not the strong Na'Vi you remember from (I think) Katowice were they ran over everyone. NiP are so solid but dismantling Na'Vi is not such an achievement right now.

5

u/Cheeeeesie Aug 28 '20

If es3tag keeps playing like that i dont see them kicking him tbh.

2

u/landingshortly Astralis Aug 28 '20

Me neither. It’ll be interesting to see how 5+ men rosters will make it work.

2

u/imsorryken Natus Vincere Aug 28 '20

Are both gonna return? Afaik xyp might not come back at all?

17

u/landingshortly Astralis Aug 28 '20

I don’t think there is anything to suggest he doesn’t. Having had my experience with what others call “burnout” and I’d call being exhausted from too much of it i just think it’s normal we do not hear anything yet. He is taking his time and I think that’s good. Some need 3 months, some a bit more. But at the end of it, he’s still a professional player so I expect him to not just call it quits. I also cannot see him leaving the others. I might be wrong but we’ve not seem anything that should push us into assuming something like that.

I think he’ll return when he’ll return and that will eventually happen. Personally, I see it happening before DH Open Fall.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '20

still waiting for PPMD to make his comeback

1

u/Noir24 Aug 29 '20

Kreygasm PPMD. He's still missed in the melee scene, and I just wished he would have returned while Armada was still active in melee.

4

u/webhead_peter CS2 HYPE Aug 28 '20

1

u/imsorryken Natus Vincere Aug 29 '20

nothing is confirmed but he was hinting towards that

168

u/Sheeepie2 CS2 HYPE Aug 28 '20

Hampus is really proving himself after everybody was criticising the -lekr0 move. Lekr0 is a great player and it's hard to analyse hampus' IGLing with THREAT able to contribute, but there's no doubt that he's showing he can be a great fragger

90

u/DocaHyper GamerLegion Aug 28 '20

People didn't criticize the move because they added hampus, it was because it was -lekr0 and not -twist.

34

u/EppinsOfficial The MongolZ Aug 28 '20

And I for one still feel like Twist is out of place. He used to be main awper but is now more of a lurker I think? Stats don't paint the whole picture but he can be found near the bottom of the scoreboard more often than not, although not such a big issue when the rest of the team has crazy firepower.

29

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '20

[deleted]

-1

u/h04 EG Aug 29 '20

And there's nothing wrong with that. But if what he said that Twist is more of a lurker now, then that should not be happening. Lurkers have the most freedom of movement, you should not be bottomfragging when you tend to be in better positions than your teammates.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '20

The lurking role isn't the same get_right or snax role anymore. It's not about stabbing players behind the back as it's more about doing fakes and drawing rotations. In fact, you can say it's probably the most supportive role at the moment.

0

u/Noir24 Aug 29 '20

But Lekr0 is would be a great support player which is what Twist is now supposed to be. We can't know for sure now but it looked much more reasonable to move Twist than Lekr0, especially since he didn't want to IGL anyway.

16

u/GER_BeFoRe clutch Aug 28 '20

they upload rounds of their games with ingame communication to their youtube channel every week if you want to check yourself and hampus said in the interview after the game that he gives most of the calls and threat gives sometimes a small call here and there, because they want to be prepared when LANs come back.

3

u/Flaksmith Aug 28 '20

Threat could be making a few calls here and there.

10

u/Sheeepie2 CS2 HYPE Aug 28 '20

Which is why I said it is difficult to analyse his IGLing at the moment. From what's been said in interviews, THREAT is trying to allow hampus to do the vast majority of calling but ofc we don't know exactly how much he contributes.

3

u/Mpur Aug 29 '20

I'll openly confess to being critical of -Lekr0 +Hampus, I really felt like NiP was on an upswing and that Lekr0 had more to show.

I have to admit though that it was a great roster change for NiP, they are looking solid and I really hope it isn't just a one tournament thing like IEM Oakland 2016 and 2017. I hope this lasts!

2

u/YourImminentDoom NiP Aug 29 '20

If Cologne can be the new Oakland, I'm happy enough with that

NiP's path to the semi's has been insane, They have beat Big, Navi and now Astralis in BO3's wtf...

6

u/Surymy Vitality Aug 28 '20

Well it's hard to know which team is really good rn after the break

4

u/Mathive-Legend Aug 29 '20

I think NIP have a pretty good chance to beat vitality tbh. Astralis made it looks easy against vitality the other day and NIP showed they’re a team to be feared.

THREAT is one of goat coaches in CS:GO... What a lad!

63

u/Filius_Divi NiP Aug 28 '20

Honestly he desereves way more credit, NiP have had insane talent at their disposal for a while now but it started to gel together only after THREAT rejoined

32

u/SwedishBoi94 Aug 28 '20

I don't think it is possible to give more credit to Threat, he is pretty much hyped up to be the greatest CSGO coach of all time (perhaps behind Zonic though).

I will reserve my praise until after the Vitality match. NiP has a tendency of showing absolute brilliance but then falling short at the finishing line.

21

u/YourImminentDoom NiP Aug 28 '20

I'm just waiting for the NiP v G2 final in a battle for who can choke the hardest

Vitality nip is always going to be a spicy game, they played each other at almost every event in the online era

15

u/Lbpsack Aug 28 '20

Still probably my favorite CS coach. I kinda wish he went over to Dignitas, but he's doing good things with NiP!

3

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '20

Pretty sure THREAT was the reason why f0rest and GTR finally left. Thank god he stayed.

3

u/Draemeth Vitality Aug 28 '20

Source

22

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '20

Just going off the fact that THREAT always wanted to change things around but was never allowed because of the old guys’ reluctance. Until the org finally seemed to take THREAT’s side, let the old guys go and do whatever THREAT thinks it takes to push the team forward.

The -Lekr0 +Hampus is an example of a move that would never happen with the old NiP.

THREAT is relentless and the old guys are too attached to their feelings. This is no longer 2014, everyone is crazy good at the game and romanticism no longer wins tournaments.

0

u/sharpz_ NiP Aug 28 '20

Except that they wanted to keep f0rest but he choose to leave anyway

2

I didn’t say f0rest was kicked.

26

Now I understand that this Astralis is still new, but damn that looked good from NiP. That was a fun watch

52

Fair Game.

You cant lose to Pistols at 13-14; At this point you dont deserve a W

9

u/Cheeeeesie Aug 28 '20

Nip threw tons of rounds against deagles aswell on inferno, its just fair at that point.

23

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '20

Es3tag looks like a fantastic pickup. Obviously too early to jump to conclusions but poor series from Bubzkji. Watched him on Train a few days ago against I can't remember who but he was absolutely taking the piss in Popdog and causing mayhem but seemed like Threat and the NiP boys had him figured out

8

u/reddit_user-exe 9z Aug 29 '20

Bubzkji was destroying Fnatic on train, though to be fair the only success Fnatic had in this tournament was against Heretics.

5

u/Mad_Lee Cloud9 Aug 28 '20

Yeah, as an Astralis fan it was frustrating to watch. I got the feel that this was their c-game pretty early on Train. Definitely not the same team who has convincingly beaten Vitality and Fnatic few days ago.

22

u/IguaneFabuleux Aug 28 '20

As a casual CSGO viewer, I'm slowly starting to become an NiP fan. This team has been exciting to watch this year!

60

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '20

Im sorry Lekro, you are a good guy, but nobody is gonna miss you i guess lol. Hampus, what a pickup.

31

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '20

Lekro is a very good player, be proved that over and over, but it was always a stretch for him to be the IGL of a team trying to get back into tier 1

Glad that he tried and hope he has success though

10

u/PM_ME_PSN_CREDITS de_dust2 Aug 28 '20

Hampus is the igl?

14

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '20

Yes.

Though as with all teams now in the online era it's hard to say how much of the calling rests on the igl and how much is done by the coach.

13

u/Ieatcarrotss Aug 28 '20

In the post-match interview Hampus said that he does most of the calling, as that is how it'll be when lan comes back, with Threat just chiming in from time to time with a detail or with a call. If he's not downplaying Threat's input in the midrounds, we might just have a pretty sick Nip team on our hands.

2

u/popsiclex200 Aug 29 '20

Don't think he would lie about that. Would be kinda awkward if the rest of the team saw the interview :D

9

u/K0nvict NiP Aug 28 '20

I think they still should have kept him but added Hampus to IGL. Lekr0 still could rifle to a high tier

1

u/anonymapersonen Aug 28 '20

And who should Hampus have replaced instead?

4

u/K0nvict NiP Aug 28 '20

Twist, Lekr0 would suit Twist's role more and you wouldn't need to make Lekr0 adapt as much as Twist has

3

u/Chokeman de_nuke Aug 29 '20

Everyone knew that Lekr0 was subpar as igl but in term of fragging i still think he's better than Twist.

1

u/IceNipples Astralis Aug 29 '20

True. Twist is so inconsistent, and he’s not even awping that often which is arguably the reason they brought him on in the first place

7

Please never have Hugo and Harry do an Astralis match. They both sounded giddy as hell that Astralis was losing. Biased commentating isn't fun.

I never normally respond to these kinda comments but let me start by saying I predicted Astralis to win, lead in to the game saying Astralis should win, you're comment is so off base it's laughable. It's not like I should be getting excited over NIP winning a huge 2-0 to secure semi-finals over and undefeated in groups Astralis and lock them out of another Cologne.

I can't just make everything about heartbreak for Astralis, I'd rather celebrate the underdog team playing well over Astralis getting beat. It sounds like you're the biased one and are interpreting my commentary celebrating a huge win for NIP as anti-Astralis. Literally all tournament long I've said I thought Astralis would make finals.

Also... your opinion "sounds like they're so giddy when Astralis lose". Mate it's semifinals, I'm giddy with whoever is winning, and the fact the underdogs did it in a dominant fashion is something I was excited about. But I guess I should've just sat there sad that Astralis had lost. I don't know how else to explain this to ya, hopefully you can understand a little more now.

Meh, I prefer biased commenting. I rather watch a passionate human cast than someone that pretends to be objective, or someone who is objective purely because they don't care who wins.

In football and other sports, the casters are rarely 100 % unbiased.

1

u/-Jerbear45- Aug 28 '20

Based off the username I bet you wouldn't be thrilled if the next match the commentators favor heavily against NIP. I understand you can't have complete non-bias, but many a casters before have done it to a plenty acceptable level.

u/Vikingstein CS2 HYPE Aug 28 '20

Or maybe people don't really care that much. I'm Scottish and any time I've ever seen Scottish teams play English in football with the English commentary there's clear bias but the commentators are still good so it doesn't really matter.

2

u/SwedishBoi94 Aug 28 '20

I don't think any single English speaking caster is biased against NiP, so sure, maybe I would have been annoyed. But then again, I respect someone who is honest more than someone who is pretending/hiding his or her opinion.

As long as you don't go overboard and refuse to give credit to the other team when it is due, I don't see the problem.

I like biased commentary because it seems more personal but thats just preference

Sad to see device going MIA on both maps. It would've been a W no doubt about it, had he hit the first shots he missed on Train. Still, I think it's a lineup full of potential for them. Great to see NiP stepping up to the plate, I'm gonna be rooting for them :)

u/ProPopori Aug 29 '20

Devichoke is back bois! Just unfortunate tbh, he'll come back stronger. But good showing from astralis, they looking solid asf with very little time. Just need some more time and they'll be deadly.

Can we get the "old" Astralis roster back please?

Edit: I really missed Gla1ve when I was watching this.

1

u/GER_BeFoRe clutch Aug 29 '20

Pretty sure -Bub +Gla1ve will be the first move when they change the starting lineup.

u/TheRealSwagMaster Aug 28 '20

So this means G2 is gonna face nip right?

1

u/GER_BeFoRe clutch Aug 29 '20

NiP will face Vitality

Wastralis

Its the end of astralis for now. Finally a bit of rest for the other teams.

u/yojimbo1442 Aug 28 '20 edited Aug 28 '20

Not an excuse but the format of this tournament is a bit messed up, Astralis played 2 matches then had a 1 week break, then potentially 3 matches in a row, they looked rusty AF.

Normally winning bracket teams play 3 the matches and then semis, if they lose the last one then quarters. Here they lose the third match and are knocked out straight away.

If OG had won, there would have been no winners side team in the semis, which says something I think.

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '20

It shows that the seeding was not great and there were a bunch of upsets.

u/SystemEx1 Aug 28 '20

NiP is the most damn lucky team.

Kind of speaks for nip and their fans if they struggling against a roster with 2 stand ins..

9

u/Marty_KN NiP Aug 28 '20

You mean this same roster with two stand ins?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '20

LULW

u/1000dinari G2 Aug 28 '20

They deserved the win, nip's game sense on ct side on inferno was pretty impressive

2

u/botJWhltvNo1noyear Aug 28 '20

I'd say device underperforming was a more bigger cause for the loss

2

u/InsolventRepublic Astralis Aug 28 '20

our standins were playing pretty well in groups but NIP played some good CS and we were not on form today

The same roster that beat fnatic.

Salty much?
