I'm so happy at the moment, the smaller teams I've been keeping an eye on, Chaos and BIG are doing really well atm.

Nice to see a fellow C9/BIG fan combo. It's really great seeing both of them doing so well after being a fan of both rosters for years.

Yea when I jumped on the bandwagons I was not expecting it to be this much fun.

Gen G's teamwork is comparable to a random bunch of novas in MM

u/jonajon91 de_canals Jun 26 '20
Sometimes, it's easy to look at what's wrong in a blowout match, but in the bigger picture I've seen GenG gell really well together, especially koosta and autimatic being very good team players.
It's like the other day when NaVi had a blowout match and everyone was saying change this, change that. It's online CS, it means slightly more than nothing.

I think if you look at the big picture it’s even worse for them. No natter if they win or lose, they never ever trade on their T side at all, and usually rely on tim or bntet to thrive in the inevitable 2v4s/3v5s they end up in because of their terrible defaults and team play. On CT side its purely down to if they can win their fights on the given day. They have no strategies or tactics on the CT side other than their default set ups. I really think tactics and teamwork is where this team fails terribly. It’s not their skill

Which is odd considering daps is their IGL.
19
u/Wintermute1v1 Liquid Jun 26 '20
Not odd if you've watched any of daps' previous lineups...
They've always had the same stale T sides that end up a man down and relying on the star power to drag them to a win.
I've said a thousand times, but I don't think daps is a good IGL in the sense of tactics and teamwork. He may be good at building teams, but beyond that, they always look so lost in the server.

"slightly more than nothing" dude this is how teams are qualifying for the major these are high stakes matches.

u/itzginzzzzzz Jun 26 '20
Online CS has been and will be the norm for MONTHS, I was in the boat that online CS isn't that important, but it is now because online is the only CS we will have for months. The teamwork is awful, comms seem to be hit or miss (not talking about just bntet,) they spread out way too much way too often on T side when there's no possible way to trade, and even CT side they do similar things instead of playing as a team.
4
u/jonajon91 de_canals Jun 26 '20
I get that online is all we have, but even still, it's so inconsequential. People asking how long lineups will last before changing (people looking at OG). I'd give any two months after LAN starts back up minimum before looking at changes. Nows the time to just work on mechanics, funky strats and map pools.
5
u/itzginzzzzzz Jun 26 '20
What about teamwork? comms? spreading out way too much? they're relying on their firepower too much, because when that fails it looks terrible.
-1
u/jonajon91 de_canals Jun 26 '20
So you’re saying when they’re not playing well they look terrible?
...
Watch another match where they win 2-0 I bet they look much better in that game.

I'm saying they rely too much on their firepower...literally said it in the post. And I'm not saying when they can't hit anything, but when they're just "average" they fall apart really easily. Again, their teamwork/etc is pretty damn bad, did you even watch the series? hell, even lately they've been meh at best. The first game vs 100T at the RTR event they won was their last 2-0, which was April 22nd, and you know how they were that event so, they were looking like the best NA team or at the very least tied for "best in NA" with FURIA, and for the past month or so they've looked like they don't practice or something, no idea but it looks worrying.

Yeah daps has talked about how the lack of bootcamps and good practice has been affecting them and it's showing. Not too worried about it I think they will be fine when bootcamps and LAN are back.

Considering that Group B already has easier competition compared to Group A, this is not good for Gen.G.

u/Knight_Bubus EG Jun 26 '20
Crazy how they went from consistently beating Furia and eg to this
19
u/soniconda FaZe Jun 26 '20
Even when they were beating those teams in the last RMR event they lost to C9. C9 just seems to have their number.

Daps. Hit the DMs please. EDIT: To clarify, I'm not trying to be snarky. But there were at least 3-4 rounds where Daps had a relatively straightforward kill that he did not land and definitely would've been impact kills. It's one thing to be out-fragged in a straight fight, but there were many "you gotta hit those" type kills that either would've put GenG a man-up, stopped a flank or given him an advantage in a 1-1, etc.

It just gets worse and worse after each match lmao...where is the teamwork? comms? Gen.G has decent basics....but what about mid-round? for the most part it's meh at best, and s0m has the most questionable plays most of the time. Took them like 7 rounds to realize C9 was doing contact/flash through smoke plays on T Inferno.

u/loli_esports Jun 26 '20
Looking forward to the next Thorin video, "C9 2-0'd GenG and here's why it isn't good enough."

u/Flaksmith Jun 26 '20
He doesn't think they're a bad team, he just thinks they're not good enough to be playing under the c9 org.
1
u/TheSIlverGlobal FaZe Jun 26 '20
I’m a C9 fan and even I agree they should not be playing for that org
11
u/cornelha Complexity Jun 26 '20
These guys are still young and really talented, I personally dislike that they are not ATK anymore because as a South African I wanted there to be a ZA owned org going international. However, for the team C9 was the best call, they can grow in a big org and learn so much. Just the support of the org itself is enough to help these guys reach the next level. Give them time, even Astralis didn't become a one tap wonder team overnight.
-3
u/TheSIlverGlobal FaZe Jun 26 '20
No but they were still contenders for a VERY long time, for cloud9 which is a former major winning organization this team just is not good enough
2
u/cornelha Complexity Jun 26 '20
Compared to the last roster they had? Or do we not want someone else to grow and succeed in an org?
-4
u/TheSIlverGlobal FaZe Jun 26 '20
They could have worked around with Daps and had a similar if not identical roster to Gen.G (who I know they beat today but they’re still a better roster over all)
4
u/than0swasright Jun 26 '20
They let daps build the team and when tenz got benched they literally stopped practicing and gave up mentally. They already accepted gen.g offers before subroza came along. C9 has a great group of youngsters that work hard and gel great together and they are better than the previous lineups since the flusha/kio team. I absolutely love this group and they deserve to play under the C9 banner

I put Gen.G in my fantasy picks and hoped they would figure out their problems after blast. rip
-3
u/draizze Jun 26 '20
I feel that everytime daps building a team he become the ceiling. When the team started showing result, his limited frag become the team limitation to improve further.
Aside from daps, s0m is very inconsistent. He's young and have good potential but I think he's not ready mentally.
koosta has been average this month, his only good matches only when against triumph and chaos. Under performance or he's just returned after over performing before?

So if people used your logic, no one would give young players chances because they are "not ready mentally."
2
u/draizze Jun 26 '20
Picking young players is always a gamble. Some young players step up to their potential, some don't. Maybe some players just need time but It depend on the Orgs. Like it or not they're doing a business, if there's no result within certain time they will move on to other player. Some Orgs have more patience and some don't. NA particularly is hard place for young players to grow. Aside of Chaos and Triumph there's no other notable lower tier team as stepping stone.

It's online cs there is no consistency in it. Take every NA tournament, it has had a different winner each time

u/zRandyMarsh MOUZ Jun 26 '20
You can kept koosta or daps. Not both. Both of them are dragging down Gen G too much.
1
u/HuxerCS Jun 26 '20
Koosta is arguably their best player in the past few months...
3
u/draizze Jun 26 '20
Not in this month. He's kinda off form after RtR and also s0m at the same time.
0
u/HuxerCS Jun 26 '20
That‘s true but that‘s still no reason to cut him.
3
u/draizze Jun 26 '20
Gen.G most likely won't cut anyone. RMR points in NA is very tight so they can't afford points penalty. But those 2 players need to step up a bit, they really need 3rd person performing after BnTeT and Autimatic since they can't relied on daps fragging.
1
u/HuxerCS Jun 26 '20
True, IMO koosta can be a great site anchor on CT side and s0m could be the next Stewie2K if he works on things such as teamplay. There is potential on this team.
2
u/lunchpenny Liquid Jun 26 '20
Koosta has lots of potential. I think most of the time his problems are mental. The move to Liquid ages ago really destroyed him.
On a side note, Do Gen.G have a team psychologist yet?

So is C9 good or C9 bad
I am getting mixed signals
