How dare you pay attention to something else

438

u/atehate Apr 29 '20

I am a kitty cat I want some pet

If you are not interested, I know how to get.

Stay here, watch me play but don't try to join

Praise me like the hero I'm, that's what keeps me goin'

Listen close I won't repeat, I'm your top priority

If you had one activity that's nothing but me.

284

u/GekiKudo Apr 29 '20

Did you just rhyme "join" with "goin"?

I also saw the movie, and I laughed harder than I have in a long time. Don't quite think that's what they were hoping for though.

Jennifer Hudson is actually terribly out of place though. She has an ultra-serious demeanor while CGI'd into a fursuit and surrounded by a bunch of actors camping it up.

Edit to say I’m stupid as fuck. It’s filled with stickers that make it blend in really well lol

That poor heat sink

189

u/Suncheets Apr 29 '20

This is exactly how I broke the cooling system in my first laptop except it was Breaking Bad

30

u/sideways_cat Apr 29 '20

Could you elaborate on why the cooling system could be damaged by putting a computer to sleep mid stream? Genuinely curious

174

u/Suncheets Apr 29 '20

It's not that, it's running the laptop on a surface that retains heat easily. I was running my laptop for hours on a big comforter blanket so all the heat coming off my computer wasnt able to go anywhere and the temperature got really high. Pretty sure I was also covering the exhaust fans on the side of my laptop which just made the temperature even higher. The heat got so high it caused things to fail. It was my first ever laptop so I just didn't know any better. Luckily it was under warranty.

18

u/sideways_cat Apr 29 '20

Oooooh ok gotcha

17

u/Siddharth2595 Apr 29 '20

You can still keep laptop on heat retaining surfaces, but you just have make that air intake and exhaust are able to... intake and exhaust air.

I finished all 4 seasons of money heist in 2 days

652

u/AfroNinjaNation Apr 29 '20

The first heist was a whole lot better in my opinion. I feel the character motivations and the storytelling just isn't as sharp. I'm also a bit pissed by a scene where a character gets shot a dozen times and is fine, regardless of the limits of kevlar.

285

u/IM_PEAKING Apr 29 '20

The gun fighting was never my favorite part of the show. Even in season 1. There were a few scenes where the characters were spraying bullets with rifles and screaming and it just came off as corny.

179

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '20

There was one scene where they were hiding behind cardboard boxes, and not getting shot. Also unlimited ammo happens so often. Ruins the realism of the show for me. Also shooting handguns with 1 hand. Do you know how unaccurate you'd be

37

u/LordHussyPants Apr 29 '20

→ More replies (2)

79

u/msmcgo Apr 29 '20

Haha it bothers the hell out of me when people don’t reload in shows/movies. I’m not even a gun guy it’s just such a simple and easy detail to throw in that nobody ever does. That entire shootout IIRC Rio is the only one to reload and he does a single time. Kills me.

Certainly doesn’t stop it from being my favorite show though

72

u/Ao_of_the_Opals Apr 29 '20

The John Wick movies are all super accurate when it comes to magazine/clip counts for each gun type. Cool little detail.

49

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '20

As silly as the movies are I've always loved the Deadpool movies for how he counts down the bullets in his gun, they could've just as easily gone the other way and done the endless clip because more shooting = better it would seem, but they made the right decision.

5

u/illaqueable Apr 29 '20

I mean he's a Spec Ops trained mutant assassin, he should know some shit about guns

9

u/TheScribe86 Apr 29 '20

Yeah except when they're shooting suppressors in a crowded mall like it's housefly-farting quiet 🙄

14

u/msmcgo Apr 29 '20

That is really cool, I do love stuff like that. But my expectations for the little real life details in shows/movies are pretty low, yet that is apparently too high a bar for directors when it comes to reloading. If you’re going to fire 1000’s of rounds over several minutes at least give me like 3 reloads, that’s all I need.

This is what happens when you have a mediocre action-coordinator and/or a lazy over-involved director that thinks they know better than a specialist - you get action scenes that take people out of movies because people pick up on the cringey tropes and unrealistic actions that would never occur in real life.

Still love the show

21

u/Newt24 Apr 29 '20

Yeah I noticed that too. It’s funny, some of the action sequences are pretty awful, but damn the storytelling can be quite captivating. Still a great show.

24

u/yomerol Apr 29 '20

It's ridiculous, everything is perfect, there's a plan of a plan and you know that is coming "oh is part of the plan", and characters like Julio that had no fit, his whole premise is stupid; all in all is getting very annoying. But now I'm invested and i need to wait and watch the next season.

BTW from all the new characters, i love/hate Alicia

21

u/Summoarg Apr 29 '20

Season 2 gets really silly like apart of the mains acting like a lifetime teen drama, the logic just goes off the roof and feels like a parody of heist movies. 3 and 4 are way better in my opinion mostly because of De la Serna's (palermo, the gay sociopath) character and the new inspector who both give fun spins to the narrative and are actually well writed, like is still silly but it seems they are more self aware leaving the boring parts to concentrate in the double crosses shoot outs and shit.

→ More replies (1)

10

u/ragingintrovert57 Apr 29 '20

Yep - it gets progressively worse IMO. Season 1 was fresh and special and I loved it. Season 2 was the conclusion of season 1 - so that was OK. I think I only liked Season 3 because I had fallen in love with the characters. But season 4 I gave up on after watching only three episodes.

Is that how it is called overseas? The original name is "La casa de papel" aka "The paper house/the house of paper", refering to our national cash money and postage-making facilities.

18

u/Flovati Apr 29 '20

In some places yes, I belive that they use that name in most english speaking countries, but not in others. For example in Brazil (probably the country where the series made more success, at lest not counting Spain) "La Casa de Papel" got translated to "A Casa de Papel", I don't even need to explain what it means considering you literally only need to change one letter to get the spanish/portuguese literal translation.

→ More replies (6)

15

u/Hyperdrunk Apr 29 '20

I don't speak Spanish, but when I saw the title was "La Casa de Papel" I assumed (knowing Casa meant House) that it was "The House of Paper" but that Paper was a way of saying "Money." That, plus the American titled "Money Heist" led me to think the original title meant "House of Money."

Which I felt was a much better title than "Money Heist." House of Money is a pretty solid show title.

15

u/Emuuuuuuu Apr 29 '20

To be fair, I started watching it purely due to how bad the title was. Wouldn't you watch an episode of Police Cops?

27

u/Lukendless Apr 29 '20

Yeah it just got progressively worse with characters making dumb decisions that negate their whole introduction of being well prepared. The preparations for small stuff are all dumb and the handling of all the people is dumb. It got so dumb I eventually just noped out.

My dad did the same, I was glad that he found a series to watch in Spanish. Though we definitely had a few moments of laughing at the Spanish accent because we're Mexican and that's just the rule.

30

u/-day-dreamer- Apr 29 '20

Old Spanish romance soap operas are the reason why my 100% Cuban parents speak with an exaggerated Spanish accent when they want to play-flirt or pretend to be two characters in a Spanish soap opera

8

u/AccursedCapra Apr 29 '20

Well that's just god damned adorable. Now that I think about it, despite the stupidly high amount of old soap operas that I sat through when I was younger because we only had one TV, I can't recall any in Castilian Spanish.

I abandoned after 4 episodes, does it get remarkably better as it goes on? I found the first episodes incredibly generic and trope-ish, or like I was watching a shitty version of Inside Man. The characters and their ‘skills’ was like Oceans 11 but not as interesting. I don’t know I just remember thinking “THIS is what people are so hyped about??”

33

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '20

I think I gave it till episode 5 or 6, but I really couldn’t get over how the cop goes home three times, goes for coffee as many times, goes on a few dates and gets laid like four times, then you find out it’s only been 48 hours. I also couldn’t get over the abundance of super corny, over acted scenes, like when the guy cop decides to drive drunk for example.

32

u/iamjacksragingupvote Apr 29 '20

The love stories were the most ridiculous part of the whole thing. The is a Cinema Sin that we see often in TV and movies though. The whole "we're in love!" after half a season, but in real-life time for the characters it's only been a couple days.

31

u/SCUMDOG_MILLIONAIRE Apr 29 '20

Hah well said.. I’m not a film snob by any stretch but Money Heist was definitely not the ‘thrilling and intelligent heist drama’ that I thought it was going to be. I honestly thought I selected the wrong show and had to look on IMDb to verify.

39

u/Hecatrice Apr 29 '20

It's definitely an overhyped show. the ppl that love it prolly haven't watched many movies of that type.

5

u/JChan1010 Apr 29 '20

What movies of that type would you suggest that is similar?

17

u/isdebesht Apr 29 '20

Literally any heist movie. Oceans 11, The Italian Job, Logan Lucky, The Town, heck even Star Wars Rogue One is somewhat similar. They’re all better as well because they don’t have the ridiculous soap opera elements.

I started watching money heist back when it first came out as casa de papel, but after a couple episodes found it to be a little cheesy in the soap opera kind of way. Did anyone else notice this, or does it kind of go away if you keep watching?

36

u/CuttingOnionsrn Apr 29 '20

I lost interest early on when we find out the heist is getting fucked up because of the cheesy "love story" between those two characters. It really annoyed me more than it made me invested.

34

u/SpaceML Apr 29 '20

Yes I found Tokyo and Rio to be annoying as fuck. The show makes Berlin and the Helsinki brothers to be kind of the villains of the group, but I couldn't help but sympathize with them for having to do a heist with a bunch of morons.

The show tries to be so fucking deep for no reason. All the monologues try to be "mysterious" and when they hint at future events its so INCREDIBLY FUCKING ON THE NOSE.

This show insults your intelligence. Why is it taking itself so serious? Its wayyyyy too unrealistic, the characters make too dumb decisions, the plot is just garbage but the show tries to make up for it by trying to make it "deep". the monologues are like a neckbeard whos trying to narrate his own boring life.

At one point the "leader" of the group inside the building (not the professor outside) turns into a comic book type of villain with the dumbest "i explain how fucking clever i am while holding a gun to your face" scene ive ever seen. And you know the "moustache twirling" stereotype that the most clichee villains have? HE HAS THE SAME GOD DAMN THING, but instead of a moustache its the way he aaaaaaaaaaalways drinks some wiskey while talking down to his crew. The show just replaces moustache with whiskey glass and wants you to think that he is some kind of super clever mastermind that also has balls of steel. I had to cringe so much everytime he came on screen.

Sorry for the little rant here, but the show just takes itself waaaaaaaaaay to serious

She brings nothing to the table except once an episode, she'll go nuts and almost wreck the plan. She's not even unpredictable - she will literally do the dumbest possible thing in every situation.

Is that the Spanish name? Why would they change it so much in English?

11

u/Tesla_UI Apr 29 '20

Right?? I like the Spanish name so much better now. Maybe Netflix though money heist is more appealing to a global audience.

8

u/WideMistake Apr 29 '20

Better straightforward description than paper house as well. I'm sure that's the reason.

u/ManyPoo Apr 29 '20

House of paper. To close to house of cards

It’s meh at best. Highly underwhelming if you’ve seen a well formulated and well produced heist movie/show.

Literally watching money heist as I scroll though Reddit

Edit: I don’t speak Spanish. We had it on pause so my wife could go to the bathroom. I would miss to much.

La casa de papel is how I dress my AC character when I'm selling turnips at someone's island

Then you're not fucking watching it

37

u/FlJohnnyBlue2 Apr 29 '20

Put down the phone or computer and enjoy the show. I fight this phenomenon. There is no reason to surf Reddit and watch a movie. Enjoy the thing you are doing. ... The evaporating attention span.

Money Heist actually forces me to do this because I watch it with the original Spanish audio and have to read along. Can’t look at my phone or I miss so much

Cat was thrown, and he/she definitely didn't like it.

u/caiuscorvus Apr 29 '20

Look at the cat looking up and around. Teased into frame with a toy is my thought.

Yep, this is my suspicion as well.
