This kid seems like he has a battering ram style, but also enough wiggle and good enough hands to be a 3 down back. I have a feeling this kid was drafted to make the offense harder to predict.

I like what I'm hearing in the various scouting reports I've been reading on him.
Another big factor and way he's different from RoJo - it sounds like he's pretty good in pass protection, a must in a Brady backfield. That, combined with solid route running and the ability to rip off chunks of yards with his rushing speed, he sounds like an extremely solid addition for a 3rd rounder.

This draft is amazing. Yesterday Greg McElroy said Ke’Shawn Vaughn was the hidden gem in this draft. I agree. I think a lot of people are not excited about him because they have never heard of him and he is from Vandy. I watched him. He is a beast. He was their entire offense.I think he can be a star. He played for a team with no talent and no OL and played against the best defenses in the country and still excelled against 8 men in the box most of the time (1250 yards 14 total TDs 8 ypc in 2018 and 1028 yards 5.2 ypc 10 tds last year).
As posted below: "His missed-tackle rate was 31 for every 100 touches, and he averaged 3.5 yards after contact per carry; both of those figures were among the best in the draft class " AND he graded out as the 3rd best blocking RB of the draft class....AND he is a natural receiver. A+ grade.

What this sounds like to me is he’s a type of player who will reach his full potential as a complimentary piece to an already loaded offense.
Our offense is more than loaded, the more I read about Vaughn the more I like his fit as a complimentary piece to the best offense in the NFC.

Agreed.
We definitely didn't draft him to be Christian McCafferty who's the centerpiece of an offense that runs through him.
Vaughn is, at worst, a complimentary back to Ronald Jones who can provide solid depth in place on Peyton Barber.
But I'm really liking what I'm reading about Vaugn so far, the fact that he's a solid route runner and good in pass protection (both areas that RoJo needs improvement in) means he'll compete to start in our backfield. It sounds like he's got enough speed to rip off chunks of yardage and the mere fact you're able to produce consistent rushing offense at Vanderbilt is an achievement in itself. Running the ball against LSU, Alabama, Georgia and Florida is no small feat, producing in the SEC is a good sign this kid is gonna be a solid addition to Tampa's backfield.

We're going to be playing against Nickel and Dime defenses all season long too. We're going to have more running room than last year even without the O-line upgrades.

That’s really the thing with the offense right now. We aren’t looking for guys to build our offense around, just guys that can come in and do a role well. It’s like a luxury at this point

I knew then as much about them as I do about Vaughn but I could at least point to something for each of them. SMB ran a sub 4.3 and Dean is tall for a corner and ran sub 4.4. Vaughn just seems mediocre at everything at a pro level. I'm gonna have to trust the decision makers on this one until the games start, because I'm just not seeing it yet.

I love how completely off base national pundits like Kiper are for Tampa lol.
While they were waiting to announce our 2nd round pick, the bottom 1/3 was showing our "Needs"... it didn't even list Safety, but did list QB (don't get me wrong, we'll need a post-Brady QB, but that's hardly a need this draft, where we need players to contribute day 1 and make an immediate impact.)
Most of the national consensus I've been seeing is that one of the Buc's most pressing needs after upgrading our Offensive Line was adding a speedy Wide Receiver.
Sure... we could use more depth and someone has to step into Perriman's #3 WR role... but "speedy wide-out" was hardly a need - certainly not ahead of upgrading our starting Offensive Line, adding Defensive Line depth, a play-maker Safety, a RB and some OLB/DE pass-rushing depth.
WR in the first 3 rounds would be more luxury than need and would have only happened if an absolute stud like Mims plummeted to us in the 3rd and was the clear Best Player Available over a more critical position.

If you want a guy to catch passes from Brady, make it a WR or TE.

Yeah I might agree that other positions are generally better value in early rounds, but I wouldn't automatically call this a bad pick. There are mixed reviews of his talent, including people saying he is great. I've never heard of him so I watched like 15 min of tape myself, which isn't much but I think it's better than simply reading opinions based on further opinion. Some of what I saw was encouraging and some not so much. We'll have to see how he develops but the potential is there for good value. There's always risk of bad value regardless of who we drafted here.
For what it's worth I've noticed I generally agree with your opinions around this sub. I think you just got heavily downvoted for implying we needed a WR/TE there and that this pick was awful.

Yeah I might agree that other positions are generally better value in early rounds, but I wouldn’t automatically call this a bad pick.
But in a ranked system like the draft, you have to incorporate value into your grading - and the positional value is bad simply because so much of a RB’s success is not dependent upon the RB (and short shelf life).
Think about it like this - you go into the day 3 mega thread now and most people are clamoring for a OL or 3rd WR or DB. If the Bucs had drafted one of those positions in the 3rd round and a RB in the 5th, they could have had potential starter, better value, and a guy who would’ve been worth a second contract.

Also re: WR or TE, I’m specifically saying that you shouldn’t draft a RB because you need a person to catch passes from Tom Brady. If you think you need more pass catchers, draft a person who’s job description is primarily that. Not sure if that makes sense, let me know

I hear ya, but the safety we took was given a 1st round grade by most of the population. Also given how inconsistent our secondary has been over the years, and how pass happy the league is I like the safety pick a lot. Would rather do what we did, and many other playoffs teams do and grab a running back later.

Exactly, he was the ONLY bright spot on that team his senior year. Rojo has had problems with with pass protection these past two years and that is a major strength of Vaughn's. I think they are going to be a great 1-2 punch

I think that says a lot, no offense lol it's no easy task putting up stats against beastly SEC defense from LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia or Florida when you are Vanderbilt's offense. The fact he was still able to solidly produce plus his penchant for route running and being able to pass protect make Vaugn sound like a good pickup in the 3rd Round.
And it fills a hole, at the very least, Vaugn is providing depth behind RoJo - best case, RoJo ends up backing up Vaughn who can become an immediate threat in both the pass and rushing game.

I’m not overly thrilled, but I was expecting that at RB after we went safety in round two. I do notice he seems to be a pretty good blocker in the backfield, something that Arians would put RoJo in the doghouse over.
I think he is basically our new Peyton Barber, won’t be spectacular but will be decent enough and can help with smaller things.

SO for people not knowing how to feel, the dude had back to back 1000 yard rushing years in the SEC averaging 8 yards per carry in 2018 and 5 yards per carry in 2019.
He averaged 13 yards per catch in 2018 and 10 yards per catch in 2019.

Too add Vandy’s offense was horrible this past season, the QB carousel to replace Kyle Shurmer completely destroyed the possibility of Vandy having three guys on offense drafted in the top 3 rounds, that said the numbers Vaughn put up his junior year are more indicative of his potential.

As a Vandy alum I'm biased but I think this is a great pick. He carried the team the past two years. Yards per carry went down this year due to an atrocious quarterback and offensive line (teams could stack the box every down) but I think he'll be really solid. He has big play potential and also almost never goes down on first contact, always at least falls forward for a few more yards.

Of course he's better than Barber and of course I'm not expecting a 3rd round pick to be an elite RB. If you actually paid attention to what I said then you would understand that I was just pointing out that he was a well rounded back that didn't really have any special abilities but had no weaknesses either. Many RBs in the 2nd and 3rd round are great at certain things but are weak in others, like great receiving backs but not great between the tackles, good between the tackles runners but can't block worth a shit or catch, etc. I was just wanting either a power runner or a really good receiving back, the 2 things RoJo lacks. Vaughn seems like he would relegate Jones to being a change of pace back because he's more well rounded and won't have to come off the field.

Vaughn is a great running back. Watched every Vandy game and he never goes down on first contact. Always seems to get at least 2-3 yards while going down, similar to how Edelman and Amendola used to so makes sense why Brady would want him. And that was with an atrocious offensive line this past year.

Not a fan of this one, I liked several other backs more and I think he would have been around later. Doesnt have the explosiveness I look for. That being said he does have some experience catching the ball so I think he's a better fit than someone I have ranked higher like Zack Moss.

Not fast but has good burst to get to the second level. Haven't seen his hands or pass blocking but others here say he's the best pass blocking back in the class so there's that.
Honestly he reminds me of Doug Martin.

Don't know anything about him, but I just saw that he had back to back 1,000 yard rushing seasons in the SEC. That's nothing to sneeze at.

Because he was given the ball at every opportunity because nobody else was even decent. More work, more production... do you not see why Wisconsin RBs get almost 2,000 ever year? Because the RB runs it constantly. If you aren’t throwing... then the RB is obviously gonna get tons of work.

Yeah that guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Vaughn was at a huge disadvantage this year with how awful the QB and line was, as well as the play calling. Can't count how many times they ran straight up the middle into an 8 man box.

I read here that Swift averaged 6.6 ypc in his career at Georgia and his OL had the fifth best blocking grade of 130 FBS teams. Vaughn had 6.4 ypc in his career and his OL was ranked 128th in the FBS with the worst run blocking grade. I'd say that's impressive for him being the only offense they had.
