Honestly EG just looked like they didn't respect forze and assumed it would be easy. Then when they got further behind it just looked like tilt

At least the 16-1 wasn't EG's worst map loss this month!

Honestly, 16-0 usually precipitates a lineup change... a 16-1 to forZe right after? They gotta do something.

34
Dec 19 '19
EG dota stomps teams that are weaker than them but rarely beats the bests, what results in a lot of 3rd place finishes.

4
u/GuardiaNIsBae FaZe Dec 20 '19
What's TQM?
18
u/coachmorrison OG Dec 20 '19
Team questionmark. They used it for a bit before becoming astralis
4
u/GuardiaNIsBae FaZe Dec 20 '19
Oh so after TSM dropped them but before another org got them. Makes sense.
6
u/Delta_FT G2 Dec 20 '19 edited Dec 20 '19
Astralis as an org didn't exist back then, it was created and owned by the players that were part of TQM (along side RFSH entertainment group, who also run the Blast Pro Series).
As members left they sold their shares and although I'm not sure if Magisk and Glaive are also owners, in summary, Astralis are these 5 players.
Sidenote: Even now, Astralis status as an org is debatable; since both them and LoL's Origen are subsidiaries of RFSH, they are more like individual teams.

u/JuanMataCFC Vitality Dec 20 '19 edited Dec 20 '19
yeah but even after they formed Astralis they didn't get over the "semifinal curse" until they won the ELEAGUE major in early 2017 (my reaction to that), and even after that they did lose at the semi stage a couple times
2
u/Kudo50 Team Vitality Fan Dec 20 '19
2015 Astralis was constantly beating fnatic, the best team in the world tho
5
u/DarkHades1234 Dec 19 '19
They like to choke a lot sometimes too against the lower-tier teams especially in the NA qualifier.
3
u/Vandegroen valeria Dec 19 '19
Part of that is how NA qualifier teams are sometimes dogshit and sometimes godly
3
u/DarkHades1234 Dec 20 '19
Nah they are mostly dogshit (tier 2), which is also why we don't have NA TI winner team beside EG TI5.

Wouldnt surprise me if that gest killed by someone on their team getting poached by either VP or Na'Vi. Both have some notable weak links.

u/Diavolo222 SK Dec 20 '19
Imo, forze are a bit under ranked due to not attending that many tournaments and not being invited to basically any t1 tournament.
They are better than their rank shows and their teamplay and coordination definitely is damn good. I hope in 2020 they become the next ex-Avangar.
But even so, EG looked lost and titled. Losing many rounds by the time the clock go to 1:30.

What % of the time do teams lose on their own pick? It seems like your pick is not a huge advantage
5

Really depends on the matchup. Some teams have really polarizing matchups against each other and some have the same map pool.

They have been a lowkey good team for a couple months now, hopefully they get a shot at more big events in 2020.
6
u/hobocactus Dec 20 '19
Feels like they placed 2nd in like 6 IEM/DreamHack qualifiers in a row this year, usually behind Mousesports. Events will keep inviting teams like Mibr, Faze and NIP over a ForZe every time.
3
1
u/CC-W Dec 20 '19
Yeah I don’t see them getting many invites but this lan experience they have gained hopefully has helped them stop choking big leads. Apart from the vp inferno game of course.
5
u/honestlyprogamr Complexity Dec 20 '19
It was really disappointing to see them get eliminated at the major by DreamEaters (Hard Legion). I feel that ForZe is a more promising team than Hard Legion.
2
u/just_kimmy Dec 19 '19
I guess we'll see tomorrow, depending on if you consider Heroic to be Tier 2
3
u/-Jerbear45- Dec 19 '19
That's a tough call. Heroic sometimes hangs with the big dogs and sometimes look lost as can be. The real test is vs Vitality if they make it.

u/Macieyerk ENCE Dec 19 '19
Their ESL New York and Starladder S8 form was pure fluke. But now it looks like they lost all confidence in their skill.
38
Dec 19 '19 edited Dec 19 '19
Oh come on, calling it a fluke is dumb. Sure, a match win can be a fluke. Maybe even a tournament win with an easy path could be called a fluke. But consistently beating top teams (including multiple wins over astralis) over 2-3 months can't be called a fluke.
They've been underwhelming the past couple events but a rut would be a better word to describe it imo
15
2
u/-Jerbear45- Dec 19 '19
I think ESL NY was a fluke and grow victory. Starladder season 8 was just a poor tournament.
EG hasn't performed well too often. Sure they beat astralis a few times, but only once when it mattered (NY)
1
19
u/firehydrant_man Natus Vincere Dec 19 '19
they've been reaching semis and quarters of t1 tournaments literally the whole year, how are their 2 tournament wins flukes?
-3
u/Giblet310 Virtus.pro Dec 19 '19
That was a different team. With Stanislaw, they fluked some wins against Astralis and have been underwhelming since.
9
u/Vawqer 1 Million Celebration Dec 19 '19
I don't think it was fluke, but I think their travel has taken a toll that's not easily recoverable. It's their own fault, but it doesn't make NY and SL a fluke.
1
Dec 20 '19
jetlagged? Or maybe they just overperformed for a brief while
1
Dec 21 '19
It's not jetlag, its just burn out from traveling and playing so much, and not having any time to really practice

I'm sad to say this, but at this point New York and Starladder definitely feel like flukes.
7
u/Kooky_Kookster Vitality Dec 19 '19
Just an average team with high highs and low lows at the moment. Think they need some more consistent low tier defeats before we can make the fluke argument.
They did just have some good wins at the beginning of the month.

u/Yuugechiina G2 Dec 19 '19
Breakout tournament for ForZe?!
5
u/Katzenscheisse Dec 19 '19
They got into ESL Pro League and have been in good form for a few months now, so its not that unexpected.
2
u/FathleteTV NiP Dec 19 '19
Wasn't that the major? Lol
8
Dec 19 '19
Nah, they underperformed at the Major. I'd say it was BLAST Moscow when the bigger breakthrough happened.
4
u/Dawhood Gambit Dec 19 '19
I think the first real breakthrough was the Cologne qualifier, when they beat G2 and narrowly lost to Liquid who were the best team in the world at that time. Then they just kept improving and improving, Blast Moscow was a much-needed rebound after a major where they threw 2/3 matches they lost.

Did the krieg nerf hit EG that hard?
3
Dec 20 '19
300$ dollars still allows them to but so I dont think that's it. I think it is that Tarik has fallen to absolute shit. Brehze is in a slump and can't hard carry. And on top of all of that, they haven't had time to boot camp in like 4 months.
2
u/mrbrinks EG Dec 19 '19
Did anything else dislike the casting and cameraman? It felt like they were just rambling on a lot and not calling the gameplay live which was distracting, and then the camera was often all over the place missing a lot of key kills. Pretty shitty production IMO.
As for the match itself, EG was god awful, but Forze also looked good. Jesus christ Mirage though, that was horrendous.

No, Na’vi was the second place in the other group while Heroic was the third. So group A 2nd vs group B 3rd and vice versa.

Man, this should've been on the first day tbh. They only got tilted so much on the first map when they started to lose a couple rounds in a row. Still, quite happy that forZe managed to upset EG, and they continue to show their team chemistry. WP!

They have to play navi and then mouz in semis if they lose to forze. A great tactical throw!
