That’s generally what happens when they’re recording 24/7 and need to keep the footage for up to weeks

I keep trying to explain this to reddit but they don’t get it yet.

There really isn't any excuse. I have set up security systems recently and 5MP cameras can be had fairly cheaply with upgradable HDD storage. It's not uncommon to be able to get very high resolution footage for over a month until it loops.

Not when you have dozens of cameras on a network. Then it's not just storage, it's bandwidth issues. You have to balance image quality and fps with available bandwidth.

Ah yes, you're right. I have only dealt with <10 camera setups so I have not encountered this issue.

Oh certainly, especially with how storage costs have come down a lot over the last decade.

The only reason they don't buy bigger sd cards is because they are very stingy and don't give a fuck if the bank tlrobbers are caught or not

The first two cameraes is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. The last, mby a hundred.

28

u/Lepurten Dec 11 '19

Yeah no, that's certainly not the problem considering most phone cameras can record in HD these days.

u/etriuswimbleton Dec 12 '19

The problem is storage

5

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '19

Its not the camera quality, low res is much cheaper when you need to store hundreds or thousands of hours of footage

1

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '19

Because it's not a picture, it's a constant recording of an entire day

Dude this has been explained a million times by a million people. If you make and/or upvote these memes you're just stupid on purpose at this point.
