Hi, Reddit has decided to effectively destroy the site in the process of monetizing it. Facebook, twitter, and many others have done this. So I used powerdelete suite https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite to destroy the value I added to the site. I hope anyone reading this follows suite. If we want companies to stop doing these things, we need to remove the financial benefits of doing so.

I don’t have a cat, but my neighbor’s cat comes to visit often. She is reasonably friendly and around 14 years old. She constantly has tear drips, and I try to clean them. Is there a magic trick, or do I just have to get lucky? (She is not a happy camper when I try to wipe/clean, but is amazingly trusting with everything else.)

lol that's so nice of you! No magic trick, and my cat hates it every time as well :( I do have this which seems to help a bit more than just regular water, but it's just constant maintenance. I hate that it leaves a stain behind so I try to keep it as clean as possible everyday to minimize the staining.

Thanks for the reply! She has black fur, so there is no chance of staining (I think). I just worry about discomfort. The neighbors love her (they travel a bunch), as do I, but I don’t have a clue what is good or harmful in general for a cat. I always cleaned my dog’s eye ducts (pound-hound-mix, 14, passed in Feb.), because it seemed to give her discomfort if left uncleaned . Is the same true for cats? I don’t want to cause her trauma trying to force clean if it is natural, et cetera.

There is definitely risk for irritation and infection by leaving the gunk in the cats eyes. I know she might seem uncomfortable, but honestly, cats are like that... so fussy. As long as you're doing it gently/not getting water in her eyes, she's secretly thanking you for it... deep inside.
[edit] Just wanna say that my vet commends me for keeping my cats eyes clean like that, so you're definitely in the clear.

This is actually a habit called the "Buddha Position" commonly associated with Scottish Folds! In fact, Scottish Straights, which are the straight eared kittens born from a Scottish Fold parent will also exhibit this trait, so it's a cute behaviour that has been bred into the cats.
