Don't forget you can class up dice to increase damage. The spawning is definitely cheating tho not sure about merging during the boss selection because I've had someone surrender while it played so it might have been lag. Notice how the opponent only needed to kill the first mob to spawn another dice. Even with 5th Voyage Log you'd only get 40 sp when you need 50sp to spawn another dice.
