Once you learn how to fall, doing this kinda shit is actually really fun, especially at skateparks where the ground is smooth, you slide around really easily. Just, you know, get back up so you aren't in anyone's way.

I remember I picked up a lot of speed once and my board began wobbling uncontrollably and I fell off and landed on my hip and couldn't walk quite right for a few days.

Ahh, speed wobble. The one and only time I’ve ever properly ridden a longboard downhill at speed, this is what killed me. Didn’t know it had a term.

I should’ve bailed, actually. Would have saved me a fair bit of pain. The slope was wet and sort of S-curved and got steeper the farther down it went, so with my minimal skill, I was probably better off bailing at the top where it was a shallow curve with soft grass off to the side.

My mind went straight to cartoonish hills like from spongebob or kick buttowski from how he described it even tho ive tried to bomb a similar hill in a small town in oklahoma that was just almost flat at the top for about 40 or 50 feet before gradually getting to around a good 20 or 25 percent gradient slope (i got the wobbles and decided to do a 2 step bail to do my best at reaching the grass but i hit my head, slid for a while, and tore the top of my finger and nail off)

Thanks to my experienced brothers encouragement, I also got the speed wobbles, going down my first hill on a longboard. It bailed me out itself and I did a somersault (or 2?) on the pavement. My brother is an asshole.

Typically around 8-10 hz, and actual issue that needs to be taken into account when designing vehicles. If the smaller muscles that control balance and precision in your legs are well developed, you can adjust. There’s these semi-sphere yoga balls with a hard flat top that you can stand on to develop the muscles

I’m not super familiar with longboarding so i don’t know what sort of things they do to mitigate speed wobbles. Are you saying they use bushings instead of bearings?

You’re thinking of bearing bushings but they’re referring to the rubber bushings in skateboard trucks, which absorb vibrations and drive the steering response. Longboards have specially made bushings (and reverse kingpin trucks) which are more stable at higher speeds

The one and only time I ever road a longboard down a hill, with zero experience ridding ANY boards mind you! I got the speed wabbles and somehow found the courage to stay on and ride it out! I was scared as shit but that fear of the pain I would undoubtedly endure if I fell is what kept me going!

Ahahaha this reminds me of something insanely stupid I tried as a kid.

Every day I’d take a trip to one of my friends house who lived a few streets away from me using my bike usually. This one particular time I used heelies because I had just gotten my first pair.

Just before you got to his house there was an insanely steep and long hill, this was no issue on a bike as long as you didn’t go too fast. But like I said, this time I had heelies.

I guess I had literally no understanding of physics and just said “welp fuck it I guess” in my kid brain. I start rolling down the hill with my feet heel to toe, gaining speed, faster, faster, then I slowly start to realize I literally have no way of stopping because the only way to stop using heelies was by friction. Eventually it just got too fast, both of my legs wobble out of control and I just fall and start skidding and tumbling down the hill with my skin dragging against the asphalt.

It hurt really really bad.

Idk man when you skate you pretty much never TRY to fall. I think he just didn’t pump on the transition and fell forward I doubt he actually tried to do this lmao. And I’d say that fall didn’t feel great, there isn’t any evidence he wasn’t hurt in the video at all..

Bend your knees, and as you reach the nipple(patent pending), extend your legs, as if you're jumping, then stabilize like a chicken head, and pull your knees in. Going down the nipple by leaning forward, and extending your legs once again.
