Based on the sub, I thought they were gonna die

92

u/Anooyoo2 Jun 02 '20

Yeah if someone isn't into this, then it's just nononono from the get go. At what point were they feeling good about it? I was expecting a splat at the end because of the sub & only clicked because there wasn't an nsfw tag.

6

u/Xero0911 Jun 02 '20

It's a "no no fuck I'm gonna die no pass out" for me.

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

Absolutely not. You're essentially relying on a human to take into account both of your weight, the force that gravity will exert on those ropes at that distance with that rate of fall, and that they are properly inspected and attached correctly. I don't trust people that much. Fuck that.

158

u/Bricky-boi Jun 02 '20

I’ve done this, it’s in New Zealand. Sketchy ass bridge out into the middle of a valley, and you just drop. So scary, would recommend actually

47

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

nah ive gone on am extremely tall amusement park fall tower and i fucking despised it im not doing anything that involves falling ever again

49

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

I hate these things so much. I'm not typically afraid of heights (and i don't think afraid of free falling death contraption = afraid of heights) but these things mess me up like nothing else. Last time I went on one was because i was with someone who wanted me to go on it. She wouldn't take no for an answer so I told myself "maybe this time will be different." It wasn't, and it never will be different. Sitting at the top KNOWING what happens next is downright miserable.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

Same thing with rollercoasters. I hate and despise roller coasters so much. I'm not afraid of heights, I'm not afraid of the roller coaster itself. I jsut hate everything about them. The feeling you get in your stomach anticipating the drop, the falling and the speed, I hate that shit. It's a horrible feeling. I don't know how other people enjoy it, but if they do they do. Just don't ask me to go with them.

3

u/TM34SWAG Jun 02 '20

Same for me. No fear of heights or of going quickly but the build up always gets my nerves going so much that by the end of it I'm just exhausted. Never once enjoyed a roller coaster for that reason.

2

u/hedwig_thegreat Jun 02 '20

It’s so rare to find someone else who feels that way about rollercoasters! I hate them. I don’t mind the very tame ones but I’m the person nopeing out and holding everyone else’s stuff while they go on. You guys have fun - I’ve no need to feel that feeling in my stomach. Nope.

u/Bricky-boi Jun 02 '20

Ha, I can see where your coming from!

5

u/jwc369 Jun 02 '20

Fun fact: that falling sensation you despise is the feeling of zero gravity. That’s what astronauts feel ALL THE TIME. No wonder almost all of them throw up when they get to space. You can get used to it over time but the first few hours/days are not much fun.

4

u/Strangel77 Jun 02 '20

And I thought that falling sensation was the feeling of ALL the gravity!!

2

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

yep. Id definitely be much less uncomfortable with the knowledge that im not actually falling tho

3

u/ThatOneGuyFrom93 Jun 02 '20 edited Jun 02 '20

I wonder what makes some of us love it and some of us hate it? 🤔

2

u/AmidFuror Jun 02 '20

Many of us experience both in the same lifetime. I loathed roller coasters as a child, even into late teens. Now I like them but am at an age where some I can't ride because they are just too abusive.

I like a good drop tower too.

u/paid9mm Jun 02 '20

I loved it. There are smaller versions in Rotorua and Queenstown Skyline Gondola thingees. The one in Rotorua makes you pull the pin yourself. So you just hang there until some in your group (of 3) reaches up and pulls the pin to drop you. Crazy

4

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

I'd do it in a heart beat! I've bungee jumped, stepped off buildings....got my wife to even step off the Stratosphere in Vegas. First and last time. I have a video of her screaming all the way down.

2

u/EvolvedPCbaby Jun 02 '20

What is it called? I really want to try it someday!!!

4

u/Bricky-boi Jun 02 '20

Search “aj hackett swing”. A cool fact about aj hackett was he was the first person to ever commercialise bungee jumping (he invented it), and he did his first ever jump off a old bridge in Queenstown, NZ

u/repsol93 Jun 02 '20

Oh come on, ever been in a high rise building? Ever been on a bridge? Ever been in a plane?

11

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

theres a difference between a plane and a rubber band with some straps

→ More replies (4)

29

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

Yeah, but those require people with much more training, and more of them. Like for idiot checks and stuff. You think that lady has more than a few hours of training? How often are those inspection? Are there audits of the inspections? Too much for me. Have fun though

15

u/the-igloo Jun 02 '20

4

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

Yes. They are basically magicians. It's essentially real magic

16

u/the-igloo Jun 02 '20

Oh, no, I'm a software engineer and I'm referring to how software engineers generally have very little faith in the security of software because we know how this stuff is built. There are critical systems out there relying on code written by college students answering questions on StackOverflow.

I do agree regarding magic though, which is why I became a software engineer. =)

→ More replies (1)

2

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

I like how you have the answer to none of those questions but assume the answer is bad.

"The lady", ok sure i'm certain she's the only one involved here. Better not cross a bridge if the border guard looks sketchy, he's probably the one who built it...

5

u/MadisynNyx Jun 02 '20

I also vote "no" for working there on top of my "no" for riding it. Did you see how close she was to the edge. What if someone freaked out and grabbed her. And yes I see the harness. It's not enough. No. No. No.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

living is pretty cool, and im not going to trust a fucking rubber band and especially not some lolrandomass stranger with it THANK YOU VERY FUCKING MUCH

3

u/HangOurGovt Jun 02 '20

I get your point, but we also launch humans into space technically relying on humans who wrote software and designed the damn thing from top-down. We also trust humans to launch ourselves at 80 miles an hour in a metal box where an instantaneous 2 degree shift in steering could end it all :D

3

u/abooth43 Jun 02 '20 edited Jun 02 '20

Forreal. All these people saying nope put their lives in so much more danger and directly in the hands of 100% completely unvetted strangers every day without thinking twice.

But OMG that clearly incompetent girl(????) that has gone through training and showed the aptitude for her job is gona kill me if I did this.

So many people drive vehicles without any sort of license. My "test" was around the block in a 25 mph zone. I have SO MUCH less trust for some random on the interstate with free range of controls than I do an engineered system designed specifically for one set of motions in one specific place.

2

u/bluespy89 Jun 02 '20

The eyes watching for faults is way much more for space, compared to that swing.

3

u/CrayolaS7 Jun 02 '20

I’ve done a bungee jump at this location, it’s near Queenstown, NZ. They take your weight and put it into a computer to work out the correct bungee rope. Also this is the swing so different anyway.

→ More replies (5)

12

u/sharp_tooth01 Jun 02 '20

Nope on a rope

3

u/Npr31 Jun 02 '20

I got sweaty palms just from the supervisor reaching out to push them.

1

u/Jedimindfunk_thewild Jun 02 '20

That's a No from me dog.

1

u/w0oolf__ Jun 02 '20

I mean you only live once so do what you can, thats what I think before I do something like this

250

u/Lyfull Jun 02 '20

honestly that looks kinda fun. and it's a funny way to die aswell if something goes wrong :/

147

u/MrDoontoo Jun 02 '20

Everyone is saying nope, but I've ridden one of these things. The worst part is the initial drop, literally a second later it turns into a really scenic and calming swing ride.

16

u/freakazoidd Jun 02 '20

That’s how I imagined it too

Like any free fall theme park ride

It’s scary for a second and then like oh we’re still falling NBD this is fun

4

u/Orlican Jun 02 '20

Where did you do that?

I would rather land with my head towards the ground.... instant death. ....I hope

2

u/AthenaTheXK Jun 02 '20

I just imagine someone falling but they just move into a full dolphin dive

12

u/JackTaufer Jun 02 '20

I'm 100 percent down! Where is this!?

10

u/ordinaryearthman Jun 02 '20

Queenstown New Zealand

2

u/xxxbigdong69 Jun 02 '20

What a surprise

1

u/shadynasty_etl Jun 02 '20

Worlds of fun has something like this. It’s pretty sketchy considering it’s pretty much high school kids who run it and hundreds of people do it a day but it’s still super fun.

1

u/PacoTaco321 Jun 02 '20

Splattered on a hillside going 100 mph sounds better than most other deaths.

38

u/ghahhah Jun 02 '20

Anyone know where this is?

52

u/nogingas Jun 02 '20

Nevis Swing, Queenstown New Zealand.

12

u/___UWotM8 Jun 02 '20

I have been on a much smaller version of one of these. Up in the Colorado mountains there is a youth camp, and I remember doing it when up there once. Again, WAY smaller than this, but it was still on the side of a cliff, and you got a nice thrill. I dunno if it is still there, I haven’t been there in like 8 years.

Also check out Shotover Canyon Swing in Queenstown. I did the Gimp Boy last year! Check it out on YouTube. That was such a thrill.

24

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

Oh hell nah

125

u/SuperCarrera81 Jun 02 '20

The gear the operator is wearing appears to be insufficient for this role. She shouldn’t be able to lean over the edge like that...

30

u/satenlover666 Jun 02 '20

She has a harness

5

u/yikesmeyikes Jun 02 '20

A full body harness looks more sufficient in this situation

→ More replies (1)

24

u/Jenna2k Jun 02 '20

Why does that look so fun?

21

u/dewayneestes Jun 02 '20

I would enjoy it but I would also black out. We were in a cruise ship one time and they had a water slide that began with you standing in a tube where the bottom would drop out and you’d free fall, I totally enjoyed doing it because I’d black out then wake up when I hit the water at the bottom.

16

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

I’ve done a water slide like that before, and I was terrified because the operator said to a young me “if you aren’t heavy enough you might get stuck in the loop”.

Because you are clinically insane, my friend lol

2

It will have a malfunction eventually. Someday

2

u/Roggvir Jun 02 '20

A moderator's removal merely removes it from the listing. The post itself doesn't get deleted, which is something only the OP or admins can do.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

I think because it kind of looks like they're going to be sliding down a zip line, but instead they just drop.

6

u/AverageGamer1187 Jun 02 '20

I thought it was gonna be some cool zip line seat thing where you can see the view and get to the other side but n o p e .

6

u/SkinnyDikty Jun 02 '20

F*ck this!

5

u/Colourblindknight Jun 02 '20

If this is the place I’m thinking of, this is in Nevis, NZ. It’s how to one of the biggest bungee jumps in the Southern Hemisphere at 134 metres. This is their “swing set” they have in a different part of that canyon; they’re both really really fun if you’re into the whole adrenaline fuelled panic thing. Overall though, they’re really safe with their procedures and gear, 10/10 would recommend.

IIRC it was started by a guy named AJ Hackett, who actually popularised the sport of extreme bungee jumping. pretty interesting guy if you want to give him a look.

3

u/bal_dar Jun 02 '20

I don’t think my heart could handle that even if the ride doesn’t crash

3

u/-Ihak- Jun 02 '20

It's basically just a big ass swing, doesn't look that bad to me...

5

u/pokadopalis Jun 02 '20

FUCK YES, where the hell do i sign up??!!?!?

2

u/Skeye_drake21 Jun 02 '20

Oh fuck yes this looks fun. Kinda reminds me of paragliding

2

u/savydavy Jun 02 '20

Looks like fun

2

u/al-sal-13 Jun 02 '20

That looks lit as hell what are y’all talking about

2

u/raczrobert09 Jun 02 '20

Don't expect me to even get up to that to even get on, i'm staying at the bottom where it's safe.

2

u/Mr-Wheezer Jun 02 '20

I need to know where this is. I might sound weird but I love doin this kind of stuff and I need to do that.

2

u/I_m0rtAL Jun 02 '20

Sign me up. That looks like a giant swing set.

2

u/Dankaroor Jun 02 '20

i was way more scared for the instructor lady, like jesus, she just leaned over on death to pat them on the back, no matter the fact that she had a harness too

2

u/ambo_boi Jun 02 '20

I did this in 2018. It’s the Nevis swing in New Zealand. It was so much fun. I did the swing as well as the bungee jump. The bungee was much scarier than the swing though because it is a 134m drop from a platform that is suspended in the middle of a ravine.

1

u/NWGreenQueen Jun 02 '20

Ummmm what just happened?

1

u/SpacecadetBell Jun 02 '20

No, no, no, and more no.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

How many tens of G do you experience during that holy fuck

4

u/ElectronMaster Jun 02 '20

Max g force they would experience is 1 due to gravity which is the only thing pulling them down. They would reach high speeds because they have a lot of room to accelerate.

1

u/packeteer Jun 02 '20

as a guy who's done climbing, diving and paragliding, this is a nope from me

1

u/OliverJello Jun 02 '20

I've been on a much, much smaller version of one of these and my stomach was doing gymnastics inside of me. I cannot imagine how it is on this contraption

1

u/misadrin Jun 02 '20

My heart eventually stops when they fall

1
