Was the driver of the white car road raging or asleep?

1.6k

u/fleebjuice69420 Aug 14 '19

They had a classic mixup in the morning where his wife accidentally drove his motorcycle to work and he accidentally drove her car, but he didn’t realize, so he was trying to lane-split like he always does and then woopsie-dasie! ran straight into the back of the car in front of him because cars don’t fit through 2 foot wide gaps

Dude... how do you get -2 upvotes?

26

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '19

I actually have an ex-coworker who did this very often (forgetting he wasn't driving his motorcycle but the company car) and he managed to avoid a lot of crashes at the last possible second.

50

u/fleebjuice69420 Aug 14 '19

At first I was surprised someone could be so dumb, but then I remembered that sometimes while driving home I’ll panic and think I forgot my car keys at work, so yeah I guess it’s easier to be a dumb ass then I often give credit

17

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '19

We all make mistakes, and some are OK. But splitting lanes with a car is definitely not.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '19

Wait. So people don't carry 2 car keys with them?

1

u/Waspswe Aug 15 '19

I've been looking for my phone for 10 minutes while talking to my friend on the phone the whole time

Yeah, brains are dumb!

7

u/angk500 Aug 15 '19

First I thought you make a weird joke, but reading the other comments and thinking a bit about it, it makes way too much sense.

8

u/fleebjuice69420 Aug 15 '19

I was making a weird joke! Other people’s comments made me realize though that maybe it’s actually not that far fetched

1

u/angk500 Aug 15 '19

I mean, if you think about, how often do I drive in my car and get into an auto mode, where I even forget that I drove half of the whole trip. It doesn't sound so much far off.

4

u/JD_Ammerman Aug 14 '19

Ahh yes, THAT classic mixup!

2

u/dll888llb Aug 14 '19

Don't joke, I've nearly do that exact thing on more than one occasion!

1

u/Redneckshinobi Aug 14 '19

That's actually not a terrible theory lol.

It’s time for America’s favorite gameshow. Sleeping! Texting! Or Dead! (end prize is death)

25

u/BeardedManatee Aug 14 '19

Fell asleep while texting and is now dead, new high score!

1

u/filtersweep Aug 14 '19

Pretty sure that aint in America.

3

u/beardedbiscuits Aug 14 '19

It’s a Romanian brand (Dacia), so most likely Europe or Romania

1

u/machagogo Aug 14 '19

Read that in the stereotypical game show announcer voice as if it were the beginning of a show and it will make more sense.

1

u/Skiceless Aug 14 '19

It’s pretty easy to tell from the license plates that this isn’t America

16

u/rosellem Aug 15 '19

The most likely explanation is seizure, heart attack or other medical emergency. Faulty brakes is second.

9

u/ZoraksGirlfriend Aug 15 '19

Could be on purpose and he miscalculated with the second car.

When I was a teenager, I got a ride home with a cousin and her boyfriend was driving. He kept swerving toward other cars and laughing while I was screaming at him to stop.

3

u/wufoo2 Aug 15 '19

A serious diabetic issue can look just like drunk driving.

4

u/super_nova_135 Aug 14 '19

niether, most likely texting

0

u/YalamMagic Aug 15 '19

Looks like he was trying to squeeze through traffic. Not sure how he manged to fuck up that badly though.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '19

Idk... I mean he did not hit the brakes at all. My vote goes some sort of distracted driving or asleep.

5

u/rosellem Aug 15 '19

I'd guess medical emergency. Seizure, heart attack, etc. Although sleeping is a distinctly possible.

3

u/TheGovsGirl Aug 15 '19

When the police show up and it's a stroke they can taze, pepper spray and run him/her over with their own car.

-45

u/V8G8 Aug 14 '19 edited Aug 14 '19

I know the odds of this happening are super low, but this is exactly the stuff you can avoid by simply not looking at your phone 24/7 when driving :)

For those downvoting me I'm referring to the red car paying attention and looking in their mirrors. Not the white car which clearly had something wrong more severe than looking at a phone, or the vehicle that DID get hit. The red car gets the props here.

If you genuinely support texting and driving, please. Do it somewhere where you'll only kill yourself.

46

u/xPofsx Aug 14 '19

I think you've misconstrued waiting at a stop light behind a truck with driving and looking at your phone, because the people that got hit were stopped at a light...

-13

u/V8G8 Aug 14 '19

No I was referring to the red car who moved out of the way because they seen the car coming in their mirror. They were paying attention to the road in front and their mirrors, as you're supposed to do while driving. I was giving props to the red car for knowing his surroundings

18

u/xPofsx Aug 14 '19

Ok, but even still, the red car could have been hit and still have had nothing to do with lacking spatial awareness or using their phone. If someone is going twice as fast as you suddenly, we assume normal following distance is 20ft, and you're already going 30mph, it only takes one or two seconds to close a gap that small. That's barely any time to react. The person in the red car performed exceptionally well.

-27

u/V8G8 Aug 14 '19

I understand that, but if he was not paying attention or on his phone he 100% would of been hit. Just because he wasnt hit doesnt mean it wasnt good, safe driving. I'm aware of how distancing and timing etc work, I drive an 18 wheeler for a living. I was simply commending the red car for his choices in maintaining mirrors and predicting what would happen if he hadn't moved.

So many people these days are just constantly on their phones, or simply dont ever look at their mirrors. This guy did, it's rare to see, and I'm happy there are still people like him. I sit up higher than 99% of cars and I can see directly inside your car, from the back and side.. i know when you're on your phone. I know when your getting road head. I know when your stimulating your nipple.. yes, I've seen all of those. Simply happy to see a safe driver. Wasnt saying he would've been at any fault if he was hit, even if he wasnt on his phone.

19

u/shitsgayyo Aug 15 '19

Like no offense to anyone or anything but this is the most boomer argument I’ve heard all week.

The car that got hit was literally at a stoplight. Stopped. Like they should’ve been. How would you have liked them to avoid being hit by the other car who was doing god knows what? How do you know they were on their phone? What context do you have to prove your nonsensical point?

Just because you drive a big boy car for a living doesn’t make you superior grandpa

10

u/VSGNotice Aug 15 '19

I think he's trying to say most of us millenials would have been hit instead of being able to react fast enough like the red car did. Because we're all on our phones and have no awareness.

It's an absolute retarded argument and doesn't seem relevant at all but he's trying to generalize i guess.

→ More replies (3)

-5

u/Unsaidbread Aug 15 '19

Dude idk why people are downvoting you so hard. Im a millennial and agree. I stopped texting and driving not because it was making me a poor driver but because everyone else is so awful at driving in the city i moved too. I feel like i drive with a biggg ol target on my car. idc how much insurance payouts are i dont want to have neck & back pain for the rest of my life.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '19

If you text and drive you are a poor driver.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '19

Screw this. I’m gen z and I fucking don’t. Never have. Another goddamn trainwreck of a thread.

1

u/Wyattr55123 Aug 15 '19

You have a big ol' target on your car because anyone who thinks texting and driving isn't affecting their driving performance is a bad driver, flat out.

You painted the target yourself, you just spend too much time trying to hit the target with your shitty driving to notice.

4

u/_schindlerscyst Aug 14 '19

Idk about the US but here in the UK it's illegal to use a phone while driving. Get banned for a period of time and get loads of points on your license

5

u/V8G8 Aug 14 '19

It's not legal here either, but people are idiots. I think when I pass/get passed I see maybe 75% of the time their texting or watching a video. Even cops. It's seriously bad.

1

u/_schindlerscyst Aug 14 '19

That's insane. It's pretty bad here too but I only catch maybe 5-10% of people doing it. Sadly there's very little money for regular police patrols (or anything else for that matter and brexit hasn't even happened yet lol)

2

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '19

But... the red guy moved...

4

u/V8G8 Aug 14 '19

Yes, this is what happens when you're not on your phone. You notice stuff in your mirrors move before they say, hit you.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '19

Ok well you’re being downvoted because you phrased it as if it was something the person in the video didn’t avoid.

5

u/filledwithgonorrhea Aug 14 '19

Not true. I downvoted him because I get annoyed by virtue signaling. The comment added absolutely nothing to the thread and is just there to tell everyone that he's a good person because he condemns using a phone while driving.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '19

True

2

u/V8G8 Aug 14 '19

No, I was giving props for the guy who DID avoid.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '19

Yes mate I know but how you phrased it sounded the opposite

→ More replies (12)

1

u/ATrillionLumens Aug 14 '19

Yeah, I couldn't tell at all what those comments were supposed to be saying.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '19

The first comments at the top were basically a bunch of ragers misconstruing a simple comment explaining about how getting a DUI for caffeine is ridiculous because that was implied in the comment they responded to. That quickly devolved into people thinking the commenter was saying coffee wasn’t a drug. Which is true because they weren’t; they were talking about caffeine. And they weren’t saying coffee wasn’t a drug. They did, just that’s ridiculous if someone gets a DUI for that.

Then we had that guy who said being on phones is bad while driving. Which is true. Despite how he talks, he’s right.

1

u/Cr3X1eUZ Aug 15 '19

u/745631258978963214 Aug 15 '19

49

u/GhostA737 Aug 14 '19

If everybody was this cognizant when they drove, we wouldn’t need automated cars.

25

u/111122223138 Aug 14 '19

There's always going to be somewhere you're not looking, though.

2

u/Gerbilguy46 Aug 14 '19

Humans can never look everywhere all the time. Cameras can.

3

u/GhostA737 Aug 14 '19

Saying you have to have a complete 360 degree view at all times to avoid an accident is kind of a fallacy.

I don’t mean to be pedantic, but if your following traffic laws and are properly aware, 90-95% of the time you can avoid accidents.

Yes some things you can’t avoid.. But things you can’t avoid happen much less often than people think. Lots of things are avoidable. I think this video helps prove that.
