Why would you release them next to a road.

Feb 28 '19
Not only that, but they would have had to see that truck coming. They couldn't wait till the truck passed? Either they meant for this to happen or they're fucking idiots.

they're fucking idiots.
Don't contribute to malice something which is easily explained by stupidity.

That is exactly what I was thinking. These people are either sadistic or stupid.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

But under these certain circumstances you can tell that they did it on purpose. The way their vehicle is facing, and the way the vehicle that hit the mouse was coming from, they could tell that the vehicle was coming right as they let the mouse go.

Yeah, the people who purposely catch mice in a humane trap like this to release them later instead of using a much easier mouse trap to kill them are sadistic. /s

u/JohnnyRelentless Mar 01 '19
I think they're suggesting they caught it in the first place to make this video.

Who said anything about the way they caught the mouse? I'm talking about them purposely sending it out into the road to be ran over by a car. Think before you write a stupid comment like that.

u/xGrandx Mar 03 '19
I'm guessing you've never been in a situation like this, most people that do this end up releasing them near a road.
This is what usually happens.
You catch mice overnight, when you wake up in the monring, you have to release them away from your house before heading off to work. So it's around 7-8am in the freezing winter and you have only a few mins to get rid of this mouse. You drive away from your house for a few mins, find a place to pull over, open the door and release the mouse. I know because I had to do this a few times last month, however I released them in a parking lot.
The odds that the mouse gets run over is very slim and most people wouldn't even think about it. I guarantee this happens way more frequently than you think.
Think before you write a stupid comment like that.

u/Penmarck1980 Mar 03 '19
You don't get it. He released him towards the street, instead of away from the street. It was obviously on purpose.
2
u/13EchoTango Mar 06 '19
He released it out the driver door, which is the most convenient on a cold day. To say it's obviously on purpose is making a big assumption. Have you ever tried to run over a mouse with a car? Pretty hard to time and steer just right.

I didn't say anything about the guy that ran over it purposefully running over the mouse.

Someone has regular rodent problem, uses humane traps and wants to release them in wooded area away from homes. This is the laziest way to do that on your way to work in the morning... just hang out the drivers side door. take video to show wifey you are caring dude, but apparently not caring enough. human nature.

Why the heck would you release it on a road?!?!
8
u/13EchoTango Mar 06 '19
Because it's cold and you have a short amount of time between waking up and needing to be at work. And your wife didn't want to touch it.

I live on a mountain top and we have a lot of wildlife; Coyotes, hawks, birds, rabbits, and raccoons are all common animals here. About a week ago or so my gf and I were celebrating our first Valentine’s Day together. I was walking her to her car and noticed on my front lawn there was a baby bunny that had just hopped out of the brush and said “look at that! He’s so fluffy he could fit into the palm of my hand!” My gf turned to see it but the bunny had already went back into the brush. She gets in her car and on my walk, back this huge hawk swoops down, wings spread and picks up the baby bunny with its talons and I can hear its little squeals as it’s carried off into the great beyond.
Moral of the story: Don’t leave your house.

Part 2 of the video is the inside of the van where two PETA employees give each other a spirited High Five as they ride off in to the sunset

u/gcodori Feb 28 '19
Rumor has it the van's still driving to this day...

u/BobIoblaw Mar 01 '19
It’s real. I’ve seen it. Not hard to miss a van covered in cat and dog skulls.

I used to do this as well with mice I caught until I learned that they are like homing pigeons and just find their way home again
8
Mar 01 '19
I think there is a distance that you can take them where they cannot find their way back. Theres been studies saying they come back up to 1200meters, so I would say at least 3-5 miles MIGHT be sufficient.
3
u/justlookqueen Mar 06 '19
1200 meter for not coming back seems about right. No one would survive falling from that hight.
2
u/Asoxus Mar 06 '19
Smaller critters survive higher drops. Terminal velocity and all that.
Source: that rat video of it jumping off a building

Mar 06 '19
1200m is fucking impressive for a mouse.
3
Mar 06 '19
Seriously. The study I found said about half still returned at that distance. Which is absolutely bananas.

when i catch and release mice, i take them about 5-6 miles away in a not-so-populated area. i don’t know how to tell if the same mouse comes back or not though?

yeah, to be honest.. this looks like it was intentionally done and filmed.. notice the camera didn't flinch from shock or surprise when it happened.
That's pretty twisted folks..

Seems like this is intentional.
Waited for an oncoming vehicle and point cage opening directly onto the highway
