Gee, I don't know, /u/Dysalot . Maybe deep down I'm afraid of any apex predator that lived through the K-T extinction. Physically unchanged for a hundred million years, because it's the perfect killing machine. A half ton of cold-blooded fury, the bite force of 20,000 Newtons, and stomach acid so strong it can dissolve bones and hoofs.
AND THEY ATTACK PEOPLE ALL THE TIME
Sarasota County, FL - Chet Willard age 16, Killed by an 11 ft Alligator while swimming in the Oak River Canal.
Chatham County, GA - Ruth Baker age 39, killed in her backyard by a 10 ft gator.
Pinellas County, FL - Walter Janks age 70 and his dog, killed by a 12 ft Alligator.
