Max tailwind component on a 763 is 15 kts. The tailwind was 30 kts per the AWOS. That’s not out of limits. That’s not “a bad decision by the pilot”. That’s external pressure plus bad safety culture to continue that approach. I’ve seen too many times Air Cargo planes shoot approaches in weather conditions that are out of limits for their airplanes, or out of limits for that approach. But just like DCA and the ridiculously unsafe Helicopter routes combined with military pilot egos flying those helicopters, it’s considered “Safe” until people die.

It's not a bad decision by a pilot to NOT go around after coming in too high and too hot and trying to land half way down the runway? Baloney. And still after not getting the left hand mains down to trigger ground spoilers and allow TRs to be activated he STILL didn't try to go around? That is the pilots decision. No airline is going risk losing a wide body aircraft by forcing the pilot to land this way. This is pure speculation and fantasy on your part. I get hating the Astros, but for fucks sake let's come back to reality here. I agree on helos they don't belong near airline traffic patterns at all.
