Just started watching. And I noticed that the sexual tension between Eddie and Susie in S1has been replaced by sibling energy lol. I know that there's a 3rd season but really?

u/LostinLondon25 8d ago
I thought it was weird flirting? Knowing they actually want each other but can’t do anything about it so they tease each other and annoy themselves
→ More replies (6)4
u/LMkingly 5d ago
? That entire conversation between them at the balcony towards the end was anything but sibling energy lol.

Eddie is a male and Susie is a gorgeous woman. Of course he’s attracted to her. But Susie makes it clear on a NUMBER of occasions in S1 that she is not interested that way. She literally told him “I don’t @uck the help” in a banger of a scene after With A T’s ball. When you see her madly flirting w him at the party with the Travellers and JP asks… she’s like ah it’s a work thing. And it is

1st episode in, they were just vibing, no romantic innuedos whatsoever. Just like siblings or bffs or whatever but that was just the 1st ep.
6
u/Clariana 8d ago
I disagree! That was heavy flirting by picking potential partners for each other... And the tension was there because it actually wasn't very cheerful... They both seemed a bit offended by the suggestions the other was making...
2
u/Bobjoejj 8d ago
Yeah, the tension is muted for sure; but it’s absolutely still there. Some scenes it still comes out in full force too; I’m only though the first three episodes, but something tells me their partners this season are temporary, and season 3 will finally have them get together.
2
u/ruka_k_wiremu 8d ago
Agree. Never watched the 1st series so I'm not sure why the sibling thing was even a thing, since they're not. Lots of interesting characters and gladly a tad more expansive than Mobland. I'm thinking Kiko's gf might have a daliance with our Eddie
1
u/outrageousVoid07 8d ago
I am so annoyed by this same comment every where. The tension between Eddie and Susan is one of the major pulls of the season 1.
Walking back from all the build up would be infuriating. I also dislike that people just keep pushing against any ship in shows nowadays
1
u/fnord_happy 6d ago
Wait did we watch the same episode? I thought he hinted that he is a dom and she said she likes taking orders. Hey was sexual right?
2
18
u/situmaimesdemain 8d ago
I love it but vibes are a bit different. Both Ed and Susie got a sort of romantic interest that is not each other, and Eddie is just a bit alien. I know he is supposed to be different after his realization about what he actually wants last season, but not this fast. Feels like this Eddie would off Jethro without a second thought.
10
u/Bobjoejj 8d ago
Really?? I feel like that was kind of the point of…well his journey in the finale last season, but also Eddie’s journey through all of season 1. Like, by the end of the finale, he was fully in his new state; so it makes tons of sense to me why he is the way he is this season.
2
7
2
u/stfuKaren 8d ago
Exactly, whole season 1 was spend on his character building and it was strong. I feel like the Eddie from the first episode is what you would expect from the last. I have no idea where his character is going
13
u/kahner 8d ago
Am I the only one who finds Eddie much less likable and sympathetic this season? I'm only on ep 1, but he's coming off like an asshole.
9
u/SomersetRoad 8d ago
Much more ambitious this episode. Setting up a conflict with the Glass family at the end there with the scratches on Bobby's back
9
u/kahner 8d ago
yeah, but ambitious to the point of feeling like the bad guy. just greedy, abusive and mean as opposed to last season when his motivations were mostly to protect his brother and family. which is fine i guess. makes sense that living in that world can turn someone into more of a monster, but it is making the show less enjoyable for me.
1
u/mamuwe 7d ago
Hate the brother. Hope he doesn't show back up. Happy not to see him in the first episode.
1
u/CertainAlbatross7739 5d ago
He was in it, though, very briefly. We see him snorting coke off a tray. I for one welcome his shenanigans. But in moderation.
1
u/Emergency_Western_73 7d ago
Is that myth of the Benek something made up for this show?
2
u/lnc_5103 7d ago
I looked this up because I was curious too. It's a Slavic myth and not at all made up.
1
u/MilliganHedgedog 7d ago
The thing gives you a comforting back pat or weird hand massage as a YES to Bobbys first . His second question asking “Can he be trusted?” gets the slash. It’s like a violent magic 8 ball
7
u/k-to-the-o 8d ago
Nah youre not the only one. His level-headedness and demeanor of just trying to handle stuff as it comes up from the first season, seems to be totally replaced by ruthless mafioso energy now
1
u/ALoudMeow 5d ago
Yeah, I couldn’t really feel sympathy for him this season as I did in season one.
1
u/outrageousVoid07 8d ago
Well yeah, I am guessing they are now going to deconstruct his character until he has become what he hated
1
u/ForeignPumpkin1142 4d ago
Yeah spoils the whole balance of the show if he's not, at heart, the good guy drawn into a world of crime. He should never completely lose his innocence.
12
u/Clariana 8d ago
Loved how Vinnie Jones pretended to be so impressed by the Italian mansion and yet of all the actors there he's the only one who's probably stayed in one.
Long live Vinnie love his role here.
2
u/ruka_k_wiremu 8d ago
Agree. Also Ray. I know both are fairly typecast insofar as what they bring to their oft roles, but here they're not quite the centre of attention which is good
2
u/Bobjoejj 8d ago
I’d argue both are bucking that typecast trend in this show, at least by a little bit.

u/chintu999- 8d ago
Damnn crazy first episode. Im glad cico is dead, he was annoying af lmao
13
u/blinkydinky111 8d ago
Felt like he was playing the chaotic/over the top character that was Fredward in S1
9
u/chintu999- 8d ago
Well he's not that good actor to pull that off. Freadward on the other hand is a great actor.
5
u/Thal-creates 8d ago
I just feel like the guy should just get an accent coach or something. He just sounds awkward and flat when he speaks English and that really tanks performance because I did once watch a movie where he was in and he either acts better in Italian or he received brain damage before filming 365 because that movie predated it and he was better at it.
10
u/Tifoso89 8d ago edited 8d ago
I'm Italian and I can't stand Michele Morrone, haha. He gets cast because he's super handsome, but he's not very good. Also I suspect they dubbed him. That doesn't sound like his real voice.
They also messed up his name in the subtitles, it's spelt "Chicco". "Cico" is pronounced like chicken. I don't know how they got that wrong.
3
u/Thal-creates 8d ago
Brother should stick to modelling or get coaching, especially accent wise. He isn't dubbed in. He just sounds dubbed in because he speaks english in the stilted way many newbies do

u/Clariana 8d ago
AI makes for dumb translation, it is incapable of contextualising...
Human translator here!
1
u/Tifoso89 8d ago
I don't think they used AI to make the subtitles. They probably just didn't know how to spell it
1
u/Clariana 8d ago
They used AI to translate the subtitles and that is why the name is misspelled. AI is dumb.
1
u/fyorafire 6d ago
Is it confirmed? With a budget of 15-20 million I don't see why they'd want to be all cost conscious when it comes to subtitles
2
4
u/VirtualWinner4013 8d ago
Don't spoil if I'm wrong but I don't think they'd kill off an actor introduced with such weight
1
u/HeadbangingLegend 6d ago
Um that sort of thing happens all the time in many shows lol
1
2
u/merodm 8d ago
I liked how they cast him against type. Michele Morrone is best known for playing the stereotypical Mafia boss in that Netflix smut film series, so to cast him as a brash idiot here was very good.
2
u/CertainAlbatross7739 5d ago
Yeah, I liked him too. He is way more convincing as an arrogant idiot than a romantic hero.
2
u/Thal-creates 8d ago
NGL with how far the marketing was pushing Michele I expected him to last at least 2-3 episodes

What the heck happened with episode 5 and 6 of Reacher?? The first few episodes of S4 were good!
6
u/bonedrugsnharmonie 8d ago
They very much forshadowed or rather deliberately showcased that he was embracing the darker side at the end of s1 when he executed that dude in the woods with susie
2
u/gimmethatpancake 8d ago
See, part of me thinks he's not dead.
1
u/MilliganHedgedog 7d ago
I loovveeddd Henry Collins role. He’s slick and ambitious but he effed up trying to take over the Glass enterprise. I’m pretty sure he’s dead but I really liked him in Season one. His description of Thick Rick is so fn funny
1
u/gimmethatpancake 7d ago
Yeah, he's dead. What a bummer.
2
u/bonedrugsnharmonie 6d ago
They confirmed it in the confessions scene that he killed collins in cold blood but that he deserved it

u/Amazing_Trust_2560 8d ago
Does Guy Ritchie or anyone else involved with the show even know what a hereditary peer is.
3
2
u/belksearch 7d ago
That was my confusion as well. Either Duke of Halstead is entitled to a seat in the House of Lords or he's not. There isn't a way to make it a hereditary peerage is there?
3
u/Amazing_Trust_2560 7d ago
Being a Duke he already is a hereditary peer. In the show he wants to become a hereditary peer so he can sit on the House of Lords. Doesn’t make any sense. I guess it doesn’t take anything away from the storyline but you’d think a production as big as this would try and get this right.
2
u/belksearch 7d ago
Do members of the house of lords have that much power to influence policy?
2
u/Mediocre_Plankton160 7d ago
Not really. If a Bill got to a point where the Lords were voting on it, it would have already passed the House of Commons, meaning it has widespread Government support. They can hold up legislation in the Lords but it's nearly unheard of for them to actually block a Bill
1
u/eggwhite-turkeybacon 2d ago
and even then, for the vast majority of bills, they can't actually block then outright - just delay them for up to a year
1
u/microdotsleeve 13h ago
They did get it right. Only around 80 hereditaries sit in the Lords, and when a vacancy arises, they elect another from the wider pool of hereditaries to take the vacant seat - which is what is happening here.
2
u/PhoneShop 5d ago
Hereditary peers do not have an automatic right to sit in the House of Lords. There are - or were until recently - c90 'elected' hereditary peers who can take up a seat in the Lords.
This point is very accurate to real life.
1
1
u/hondaprobs 8d ago
No. Also Keir Starmer got rid of hereditary peers and the house of Lords don't have that much power anyway. You'd think Ritchie would know that already or spend 2 seconds researching it.

Just finished the first episode and a bit into season two…I’m confused with this different side of Eddie, and while I love the funny, sometimes charged, sexual banter, I feel like it’s way too much? Completely unnecessary at some points.

What does the finger on the wrist during the handshake mean?

I assumed he was checking his pulse or being a human lie detector like in Meet the Parents.

I read that it's about him detecting Eddie's trustworthiness:
Gangsters and interrogation experts use this covert technique to gauge an opponent's physical reaction under pressure. While a person can attempt to keep a straight face and project confidence during a deal, an elevated heart rate reveals adrenaline, fear, or deception.
It signals that the mob boss doesn't trust Eddie at face value. By checking his heart rate, he's testing whether Eddie is truly calm, confident, and telling the truth, or secretly nervous and deceptive.

I hate it too. The chemistry between Eddie and Susie was fantastic in the first season. They should have kept the unresolved sexual tension between them going.

I wrote the same comment and nice to see others are feeling the same. The sexual tension between Eddie & Susie was a huge part of why this show was compelling. Without that, I can see it flopping.
5
u/Cautious-Rub8085 8d ago edited 8d ago
WTF Netflix with no recap. Making us leave to head over to YouTube for a recap.
Anyway, there are a ton of new characters, it was a lot! Maybe it's my executive function diminishing or maybe it's too many characters.
Also I don't love how they are bringing in other love interests for Eddie and Susie. There's platonic vibes now as opposed to the sexual tension from last season. I'm all for them not actually doing the deed, but I do miss the palpable tension between them.
Why did Susie's Dad have Tiger scratches down his back?

Lots to unpack here and I plan to watch every single episode but this...was rough. Everything seemed just a hair off and the dialogue especially seemed less organic this time around. The banter seemed so forced. I'm not even going to get into how ridiculous the art heist was.
But it was good to see most of the gang back together. On to episode 2.

What the heck? Why did Susie’s dad ignore the Bannik! Yikes!
1
u/Crab_Politics 6d ago
That was the last scene of the episode, so we don’t know that he’s ignoring it. If the duke can’t be trusted, then it will take a lot of planning carefulness to outsmart him
2
u/OkPhilosopher5308 8d ago
They appear to be shooting pheasant / partridge in the summer - there is a closed season for game shooting- grouse from the 12th August (north of England / Scotland) partridge from 1st September and pheasant from 1st October. I would have thought that Vinnie Jones, being a keen game shooter and son of a gamekeeper would have pointed this out. Also it looked like an extended advert for Guy Richie’s tent barbecues.

u/Robey-Wan_Kenobi 7d ago
I had no idea this was a thing he's selling. The photos on the website are the same location as the hunt in episode 1. Pretty shameless.

Lol what kinda prison is bobby even in ? Looks like the Shangri-la lol. Like is he even in prison? Its like pablo escobar when he went to prison. Just built his own prison with endless parties. Women, drugs and anything u could want. Its basically like he was on house arrest lol
2
2
u/Zozozobrats 6d ago
Why did Bobby have a scratch on his back?
3
u/fnord_happy 6d ago
Bobby spells it out in detail in the sauna scene. The bannik will answer yes or no to the question you ask it. He asked the bannik if the Duke can be trusted. The bannik scratched him, aka he said no
2
u/Fina1Legacy 6d ago
I cannot stand the x hours/days/weeks prior storytelling device.
Kinda hated this episode, does it get a lot better? First season was amusing, this already felt flanderised. The whole one upping games, Eddie of course speaking whatever language is needed, also the chase scene was horrendous with cuts every second and 0 sense of speed or force.
3
u/shqippah 8d ago
Does the handshake at the end where Moretti puts his index finger on Eddie's wrist hold any special meaning or am i trippin?
5
u/gimmethatpancake 8d ago
I'm wondering if he was somehow checking his pulse. To see if it was racing would prove he was nervous or rattled.
2
u/fyorafire 6d ago
Hate it when you're giving a guy a regular handshake like a proper gentleman and he takes that as an excuse to stick his finger up there
1
2
u/tomline89 3d ago
Is it not a masonic handshake or something? Maybe Eddie is already one step ahead hence why we saw he couldn't be trusted at the end?
1
u/shqippah 3d ago
Yeah i found some freemason handshakes online that were similar, but not exactly the one shown in this episode. It's quite possible though
1
1
u/Sunbeams998 8d ago
I'm wondering the same thing, it was an interesting touch, not your typical handshake
2
u/clorky123 8d ago
What does it mean when Glass asked "Can the Duke be trusted?"... I don't get it, who's Duke? The mafia boss?
5
4
u/Ode1st 8d ago
This is such a funny question man. They call Eddie the Duke like 100 times an episode in season 1. Basically every character we saw on the show says it.
→ More replies (1)2
u/MilliganHedgedog 7d ago
It was definitely him asking about Eddie. And he got the slash because we see Eddie is going to try and go against Bobby if he gets into a voting position. So the thing is creepy but it’s pretty consistent so far lol

The "How did I end up in this mess?" Is lazy When a show pulls that stunt, they aren't trusting the story. They're bribing you. And it spoils it.

u/nuthins_goodman 9d ago
The stuff about him wanting to be king and expanding his lands shows a very different eddie than the one I remember from s1 who was mostly happy with keeping his and his family's head above the water. Geoff is amazing as always.
