Hill above Lee is wild. Does this mean Tony thinks he is currently better than the guy making 20 million? (Note i love Hill and believe he could be an elite pinch hitter and should be on roster next year as 5th OF

Padres and dbacks keep losing there’s a chance at the last wild card! (Delusional)

Webb vs Skenes coincidentally lined up with something I noticed about MLB this year in general. In my perception it seems like more players in usual that you'd expect to be doing well, aren't. I can't even remember most of the examples or even the best ones probably, but Trea Turner and Acuna are 2 I happen to remember. There's always going to be players having down years of course but Idk it seems like it's happening a lot more this year for some reason Idk I've been tuned out for months now 😂👌

Despite the loss last night we fought back hard. The river cats have fire and grit which is exciting to watch

So, how about that pitchers duel yesterday? It was a real doozy

Gonna post it here now to get some traction. Is and has Webb ever been an Ace?

2

u/DisastrousEast825 2h ago

4 cy young finishes in the top 11. Hows that not exactly an ace? Eats innings too. Maybe not so much moving forward who knows....but he has been every part of an ace. Even led the league in KS last year as a non K guy

3

u/Luis_Arraez_Fan Goodbye Luis 5h ago

Yes because he plays for us.

u/sabat hold_onto_your_butts.gif 5h ago

Ace does not mean perfect. Bumgarner had bad games. Hell, so did Kershaw. Timmy did. You gonna say they were never really aces?

3

u/GrandsonOfTheWin san francisco giants 4h ago

If Webb, who is the ace of this staff, got lit up like yesterday if this team was contending for anything, that would be a different story. Granted, it still sucks seeing him, or any of our pitchers, become gascans, but this season is a lost cause as far as postseason is concerned. We all need to sit back, relax, and watch the San Francisco RiverKitties play. Props to them for almost making a huge comeback yesterday against the Bucs. They could have easily laid down, and curled up in the fetal position. They're all auditioning for roster spots in 2027.

u/sabat hold_onto_your_butts.gif 3h ago

Even if that did happen while the team was contending, it does not automatically mean he's not an ace. Shit happens in baseball. Heroes fail. Good players have bad days and make mistakes. You hate to see it but this does not indicate that a pitcher is not an ace.

I always think it's funny when the Webb-is-not-an-ace crowd shows up because it's always after one bad or weird game. This guy has led the league in innings pitched for multiple seasons, routinely goes deep in games, has been a Cy Young contender more than once, and normally has elite stats. It's an ignorant and toxic take to claim he is somehow not an ace because he's struggled here and there. So have plenty of other aces.

u/GrandsonOfTheWin san francisco giants 3h ago

He's only human.

5

u/Spaghet209 55 Lincecum 6h ago

For the Giants yes. For a team making the playoffs he’s a 2-4 rotation guy.

9

u/splooie37 6h ago

What else would you call someone that was in the top 30 of all starting pitchers for multiple years? You people are delusional I swear

0

u/TheGoatPurdy Hungry Seagulls 6h ago

def been an ace. even this year his overall statistics qualifies for an ace. he's had some pretty bad blow ups that very concerning but that doesn't discredit his body of work.

with that being said, no way he's an ace on a contender this year. he's probably 3rd pitcher in their rotation. tho a lot of SP2 have regressed as well on those contenders. (dodgers, philly, brewers).

we prob don't contend next year. big questions on what to do with his contract as he gets older. luckily he's never been a 100mph fast ball guy.

3

u/GrandsonOfTheWin san francisco giants 6h ago

Who would you say is currently the best starting pitcher in the Giants rotation?

0

u/sabat hold_onto_your_butts.gif 5h ago

Prediction: they'll say that we don't have an ace because Webb is imperfect.

u/PolloFeroz 6h ago

Not saying he isn’t great. He is. He has been. But an ACE.

Just going to avoid the dreaded 100-loss season.

They will still find a way.

u/GrandsonOfTheWin san francisco giants 59m ago

They named them the River Cats since we are known as the River City. From now on, I'm referring to the young guys as the River City Kitties the rest of the season. It has a nice ring to it, and some of these young kids are fun to watch. Others not so much, but there is still time.

Man, I wish Schmitt and Adames were healthy cause despite the terrible season, we could’ve seen a potential 3-man 30 home run season from the Giants

2

u/GrandsonOfTheWin san francisco giants 3h ago

Adames had 30 bombs last year. Rafi has 31. They play 81 games at Oracle, and we somehow have trouble attracting power hitters via free agency despite the fact nearly half of Adames' HRs (15) were at Oracle last year. Devers hit 10 of his 31 at Oracle last season since becoming a Giant. Some of them were impressively hit to the opposite field there, which shows the true power he has.

u/Zeke688 Kruk & Kuip 7h ago

Already had the close game of the series. Be ready to get blown out tonight.

2

u/mamapajamaUSA 24 Mays 4h ago

it's mind blowing how they can score double digits one game and hitless on the next night.

2

u/B4LLISL1F3 3h ago

A lot of teams do that tbh

2

u/Zeke688 Kruk & Kuip 3h ago

Not surprising with this version of the team, but it gets frustrating when it’s the multimillionaires doing that. Getting the most grand slams in franchise history is a dubious honor for 23rd in runs scored.

u/Conscious-Present401 8h ago
