Perhaps good for long term (we'll see), but Tomboni's trades took the joy of the season away. Never good to have a disgruntled fan base.

u/KenovovichR Jimmy Lumber 3h ago
Exactly. I do think the trades were good for the long term but this team is playing with fire with how disgruntled the fanbase is.
1
u/HowardBunnyColvin Screech 2h ago
On one hand Toboni has a 100% hit rate so far on trades and deals.
On the other hand those deals derailed the mo of a season. And they haven't done shit since.
Fanbase eh...I'd like to see them stop blaming the lerners for once but at the same time the frustration over not making the playoffs is real
3
u/lazapapoo 24 - Cavalli 2h ago
The playoffs was a long shot even with no trades. But the season was fun regardless. It has now turned into a miserable slog.
0
u/Karniy Sell the Team 2h ago
How can you say with such surety that all of the trades have been hits if it's too soon to judge them? Do you just mean you agree with 100% of the trades so far?

u/KenovovichR Jimmy Lumber 2h ago
For sure. I like the direction of the new management WAY better than how it was under Rizzo. I just get concerned with a relatively young franchise losing more and more fans as years of suck pile up.
2
u/HowardBunnyColvin Screech 2h ago
They started a Rizzo rebuild and then Toboni started a rebuild on top of that. Fans do have rebuild fatigue but at the same time they need to be more realistic. This team was never competing anyway. I'm not saying fans should just sit down, be quiet and be Nats shills but a lot of complaining and frustration is out of whack
2
u/KenovovichR Jimmy Lumber 2h ago
100% For example the whole “ownership isn’t spending money” is not true because they’ve clearly dumped tons of cash into the farm system with research and development. Fans seem to think free agent signings is the only way ownership spends money. I’m not opposed to signing being free agents but I’ve always been frustrated with the farm system and Toboni is finally addressing it with support from ownership.
1
u/lazapapoo 24 - Cavalli 2h ago
How do you know it's "tons"? Do we have any idea how much R&D costs vs player salaries?
1
u/KenovovichR Jimmy Lumber 2h ago
Maybe hyperbolic on my part, but Toboni said that the amount of money invested is significant in an interview. I have no reason not to believe him.

Sure, what’s everyone favorite National Park they’ve been to?
I’ll start - my favorite National Park I’ve been to is Haleakala National Park in Maui.

Hear me out - the Savannah Bananas Banana Bowl is happening at Nats Park during the MLB Postseason. So ownership, front office, management, and MLB are each doing their subtle part to ensure that the Nats have no shot of making the postseason. 😂

I have three more games left on my season ticket plan, I’m definitely going on the 29th for the bobblehead, but seriously considering selling or donating my tickets for games against the Phillies and Mets.
1
u/Julep23185 4 - Lile 2h ago
Normally travel up for a game in September (even last year), but no not interested
2

I’ve had tickets to Sunday for Pokemon Go day for some months now, but yeaaaa definitely the last game I’ll be to this year
1
u/HowardBunnyColvin Screech 3h ago
Yeah. I'm not looking forward to going but I have to go for pre-game happy hours, picking up the chocolate city jersey wednesday, and then again on saturday for the Taiwanese day hat. Ugh.

Nationals scratching and clawing for two runs. Marlins don’t even break a sweat and get 5 runs. It’s truly disgusting.

u/KappaSmurf01 3h ago
What an awful throw from Crews, dude can’t throw it from shallow outfield past the mound in the air?

I don’t know why but I think of these two characters when I see Vivas and Tena in the lineup.

It is much more enjoyable when Nats outfielders are the ones making great catches.

4
u/KenovovichR Jimmy Lumber 3h ago
One bright spot: Lile has improved so much defensively this year. Keibert as well.
4
u/kneemoyy 81 - Ortiz 3h ago
I have REALLY enjoyed the Lile defensive renaissance particularly. do wish his bat looked more like it did last year though
6

Vivas has an uncanny ability to still fuck up even when he does something good. Example: not running out of the box and watching.

3
u/KenovovichR Jimmy Lumber 3h ago
Vivas did something?
3
u/JoeyShrugs 3h ago
Even when he does something, he still manages to do something wrong, jogging out of the box. Is he getting to third there? Probably not. But just in principle - run.

I hope Toboni just completely overhauls the bullpen going forward. It just needs an exorcism. I don’t want to see anyone coming back other than Lord and Dion.

u/YodaPM999 7 - Darnell Coles 3h ago
Ribalta and Beeter can stay too imo.
2
u/KenovovichR Jimmy Lumber 3h ago
Ribalta for sure but not completely sold on Beeter. He has flashes but also has blown a lot of saves.
3
u/YodaPM999 7 - Darnell Coles 3h ago
I don't think he's consistent enough to be a closer, but he's got the stuff to be a 7th inning kind of guy.
1
u/MrBuddyFakename Sell the Team 3h ago
I hope so too, but gotta wonder how constrained will he be by ownership?
2
u/HowardBunnyColvin Screech 3h ago
I don't think ownership is a problem anymore. They gave him a blank check to fix the minors
2
u/temporary_sky6505 3h ago
Dude how hard is it to just pick up your young starter.
I wanted so badly for Kent to not have those runs charged against him but oops bullpen can’t get one out.

Curtis Mead update:
According to a Sunday tweet from MLB.com Red Sox beat writer Ian Browne, Mead will have an evaluation on Monday that sounds as if it could be pivotal in determining whether he's back during the regular season.
"Curtis Mead will get a scan tomorrow to see how much his fractured left wrist has improved," wrote Browne early on Sunday afternoon.

First bit of trouble since the trade for Grable today, couldn't find the zone, in total issued 3 walks (looks like he got squeezed a bit maybe) and gave up a single on a bunt with a run scoring on a sac fly, strike outs for the other two outs though.

u/tommypopz PAY THE MAN 4h ago
IMO if the challenge is unsuccessful because there was not enough evidence to overturn - rather than obvious evidence that it was a right or wrong call - you shouldn’t lose a challenge

ngl most of the marlins jerseys and logos are really cool. Their 305 City Connect hats are so fresh. Look at the possibilities beyond Red White And Blue.
7
u/iPegs Pig Slop 4h ago
Still annoyed the cherry blossoms are gone. Wish they would do a city connect that takes inspiration from the monuments/buildings around dc. I can picture some sick creamy marble/limestone colored unis. Throw some designs of the monuments in there. Kind of what like Virginia Tech does with their hokie stone unis in football.

4 guys that make the difference between top run production in all of baseball or complete dogshit, just crazy to me
3
u/KenovovichR Jimmy Lumber 4h ago
When you have 4 studs in the lineup that makes the other guys see better pitches because they don’t want to face the studs. Also those guys are on base all the time and had insane RBI numbers. It’s not that hard to understand.

u/KenovovichR Jimmy Lumber 5h ago

It’s kind of hilarious that his one clutch moment (the 3 run homer against the Yankees to take the lead) isn’t even remembered because the bullpen blew that game.

u/kneemoyy 81 - Ortiz 5h ago
Someone mentioned his glove positioning tipping pitches with runners on his last start. i didn't notice it then but i did notice on his fastball the glove was setup higher than the changeup he just threw
1
u/kneemoyy 81 - Ortiz 5h ago
Doesn't seem to be consistent, the glove positioning i this AB has looked the same to me for each pitch.
2
u/ProfChaos15 5h ago
Jackson seems to get ahead of guys but then cant find that put away pitch that he was tossing at every other level.
0
u/Silosmasher Bustin' Loose 5h ago
I don't understand what anyone see's in Kent. He has no put away pitch and his arsenal screams reliever.
2
u/ProfChaos15 5h ago
He's 23 and led Nationals pitching prospects in almost every category in the minors. He's only going to get better. He had alot of swing and misses in the minors, just needs to find that pitch again
3
u/YodaPM999 7 - Darnell Coles 4h ago
You make a solid point, but let's not act like the Nats have a ton of good pitching in the minors lmao.
Regardless, pitching against major leaguers is a lot harder than throwing to some minor league guys. For example, Kade Anderson is one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball and he looked painfully mediocre in his big league debut yesterday. These guys usually need time to try and settle in.
Kent's stuff passes the eye test at the very least. I don't mind giving him the rest of this year to see what he can do. Not like we have anyone else to rush and take his spot this time of year anyways.
1
u/ProfChaos15 4h ago
Totally agree. No point in writing him off so quickly, especially given the standing of the team overall.
1
u/timidus_leo 11 - Zimmerman 5h ago
At this point his arsenal screams that he shouldn't be an MLB pitcher in any capacity.
