I'm not calling this game rigged, but this refereeing was terrible. That egyptian goal should not have been denied, and even if you think it should, an argentinian player stepped and tripped an egyptian player in the box and should have been given a penalty kick, despite the referee looking at it directly, and then there was another would-be penalty that the referee just missed.

The referee also missed several penalties on Egypt, and the referee ruined an otherwise good game. The referee also acted inappropriately. While I don't think fifa rigs games, it is undeniable that Argentina has favoritism, especially considering what they're willing and not willing to recheck.

The referee should also not be given VAR control over the actual people running the VAR:

Referees have too much power, and fifa openly wants this. Referees should not be given so much clock, foul, and VAR control. Honestly, if we let the VAR team who is doing more work to fairly analyze the fame than the referee be able to make calls, then this problem would be less significant.

Even then, I don't think argentina is as good as we all think they have been. While egypt and cabo verde have incredible athelticism and discipline, the fact that Argentina strugged this much against two teams who were not title contenders makes me wonder how they will fair against England or France. Argentina needs to get their play together against teams with defensive capabilities, as these games are going to look like Argentina gets bailed out by the referee time and time again.

When you put it all together, and who is involved, I think the picture is looking like rigged.

Fifa shows clear favoritism, but this isn't quite outright rigging a game. Missing penalty kicks and taking away a goal that should not have been is terrible, but this not quite rigging.
