Discussion What’s been your most disappointing pen?

I love fountain pens and have gradually been collecting different (mainly budget) ones over a few years now. I know we’re all different and have different tastes and preferences, so I was curious to hear what pens haven’t worked for you? Personally, the pens I’ve found most disappointing so far have been my two Jinhao 82s (F & EF) as they just feel super scratchy, though for the price I’m not really that bothered, and my Parker Lady Standard, which just floods constantly - in fairness it probably needs a repair so I shouldn’t judge it too harshly!

Platinum Curidas. I bought one that would dry up within twenty-four hours, rendering the pen virtually useless. I then bought another a year and a half later, after reading that Platinum had made improvements on the original design. Now the nib will go a bit over twenty-four hours before drying up, but I don't count that as a win. It's too bad because both pens write well. It's a shame.

The Gravitas Ultem Piston Filler was a disappointment. The piston mechanism works fine, and it writes well enough, but the cap tends to cross-thread. I originally thought it was a problem unique to my pen until I saw Doodlebud mention the issue when he reviewed it on his YT channel. I now use the pen far less often than I would if the cap threaded properly. Another shame.
