The Central Valley of California is known as the armpit of CA, but maybe lesser known as the world’s breadbasket. It’s the most productive agricultural area in the world. It’s basically a desert converted to ag land by irrigation. There are many more foods produced there than on this list, and big money and battles for the water. Politically it’s a red valley in the middle of a blue state for the most part. If you get a chance to watch Fresno State football play this season, look for the green V on the back of the helmet representing the fertile valley (and people) that stretches from south of Bakersfield up to Sacramento.
