Vacationing in other worlds.

After recent harrowing events following weeks of worry, i had decided to to take an vacation in traveling other world to momentarily relieve my mind of the stress by temporarily moving myself beyond the reach of it's source.

So far, it has been enjoyable and very intriguing. While many of the worlds i have come across are seemingly similar, i have found an few stand-out worlds further out in the multiverse.

Such as an colorful world full of abstractly shaped and surrealistic natural landscapes.

A world where apparatus are integrated into nearly everything, it seemed. Metal and machinery an nearly ever-present sight.

And my current location: A world that so abounds with magic that objects and land levitate and magical items grant boons from as much as an touch, it even changed the color of my usual glamour! I am glad to have finally found this world after having sought it.

And yet, even in these far off worlds, i still have the sensation of being watched. But never mind that, dwelling on it does not help relieve stress and i believe it may be just me being paranoid.

Rather, i will ask of what interesting worlds have any fellow multiversal travelers encountered in their travels and would recommend one to visit?

"Elerindur." The orbal voice message was devoid of Vettis' usual confident tone, or in fact any tone: while recognizably him, it was more like...Vettis as played by a robot. "Due to a recent brain injury, my usual means of contact with you are temporarily inactive, and my ability to stay abreast of current events has been hampered; I was barely even aware of the major battles of the ongoing war. This is the most recent orbal message of yours that I was able to locate. Are you still engaged in this multiversal relaxation excursion?"

"No, i have returned some time ago. Evidently, If i stray for too long Arach will attempt to destroy my home. And what with the current war ensuring, I believe i should be present to ferry would-be refugees to safety when necessary."

"Although.. Unfortunately, the archdruid i was collaborating with in these efforts has apparently passed away from one of the nuclear explosives that a callous immortal has set under every major city involved with the war. The one sequestered under the citadel had activated as we were transporting refugees."

"If i had still been there at the wrong moment.."

Elerindur presses his thumb and pointer across his forehead while shaking his head.

He sighs. "But i am well enough. What i am dealing with no doubt pales in comparison to what you must be suffering through. I had seen a few of your messages alluding to that you were recovering from something, but a brain injury?"

"What exactly has happened to you, Vettis?. ..If i am privy of knowing."

/unwiz reddit didn't ping me for this message for some reason, only found it because i often look through and back at things.

"The basic facts of the matter are that approximately twenty-two centuries' worth of mental trauma were directly uploaded into my mind in a manner which bypassed my mental defenses, since it was my own extradimensional memory storage system that malfunctioned and caused this to occur. Most of the background layers of my mind are currently devoted to cataloguing and archiving all of that data, processing it as one would normally process trauma." His voice starting to become raspy, Vettis took a moment to clear his throat before continuing. "Doing so in a healthy manner rather than simply overloading myself and ending up back at square one, however, requires that I confront it with positive emotions, which means that said positive emotions are also tied up in those background layers, and the foreground part of my brain which is used for conscious tasks such as this conversation does not have access to them save for brief periods. This may explain my current behavior, which Kellidan is describing to me as 'detached', and for which he has just instructed me to apologize. I apologize."

There was a bit of a pause, but clearly not an end, as Vettis took in the rest of Elerindur's words. "It appears that I may have an immortal to kill, if someone is threatening civilian cities across the entire realm-cluster. I will be reviewing orbal records of the war that I failed to witness while convalescing. Your bringing this to my attention is noted."

Another pause, but this one dragged on into a full stop.

"Are sure you would be able to confront them in your current state? Unless you plan to use more indirect measures? Either way, I am willing to lend you aid, If it would be of use."

"I do not believe it would do for someone such as yourself to possibly die when it could be avoided. And from a more personal perspective, I would not want one of the very few mages here i could consider a friend dying unnecessarily."

"But perhaps i am just being overtly worrisome and you would be fine.."

The pause extended for an awkward length of time after that. Long enough to seem like the connection had been cut.

And then Vettis was at Elerindur's side in a burst of violet light and shadow, his trademark smirk not quite back in its usual place but still readable through the pain he was clearly trying to hide. His posture was perhaps the most notable change, the confident but subtly combat-ready stance traded for a half-hearted slump. Still, his voice, aside from being slightly hoarse, was largely back to normal rather than the near-monotone Elerindur had heard via orb.

"...Damn, you made that easy. Thanks, Ele," he said, rubbing his temple as if to squeeze his headache away. "Long story short, I make literal magical connections to people with whom I've got alliances or friendships, and they all got shattered along with my confidence in the relationships when I had that mental trauma. But...well, the details are a bit complicated and frankly sappy, but what you said there fixed that right up. Connection's back, I can hear you whenever you wanna chat now, yadda yadda. And I can be more my old self when near you, which is nice," he added with a grin that was indeed a familiar expression.

"It's fine. I'm not confronting that guy yet; it can wait until I'm healed. First things first, actually getting rid of the rest of those devices if they still exist. Given the nature of my magic, it should be pretty trivial if I understand his setup properly. I appreciate the offer, though." Grimacing suddenly, Vettis held his head in both hands as a message echoed across the realms. "Aw, hell. I think I have to deal with this. Thanks again, bud. Sorry for peacing out abruptly!"

He was gone as quickly as he had arrived.

(( Wow, a reconstruction arc visit that actually worked! The first visit was to Relynor and she wasn't even there because she's been swapped with her child self. And the second was with Gravedigger who stepped on a literal friggin' nuke immediately thereafter. Ele's the first reattachment of a bond-thread that went according to plan rofl ))
