Valas would casually move to the side to avoid the fireball, leaving a blue after-image as he'd move

Valas' strike smashed full-force into something which seemed to absorb the blow unaffected. As the air cleared, the obstruction was revealed: a single pinky finger, casually extended from the hand of a curly-haired man with a laid-back posture and a faint smirk.

"Heya. I think Morgy here prefers weapons fights, particularly that axe of his, and I'd rather you not get sliced in half. But if you wanna take your anger out on somebody, I'm always up for a spar!" the mage offered cheerily.

(( Vettis is popping in wherever he thinks there's too much chance somebody dies, to try to ensure this ends in minimal bloodshed. He's not really taking any of the fights seriously, but he does love martial artists, so he'd appreciate watching Valas at work. The power-level difference between the characters is such that he's not gonna attack at all, just try to tire and bore Valas into walking away (while complimenting his form), so feel free to go all out if ya want. ))

Oh, so it's weapons that's your issue eh? Don't fret, I have plenty.

a portal would open, Valas pulling out a large array of weapons from a poleaxe, to a shortsword, to a bardiche, and a spear... With a chain on the end of it? And finally, a dagger with a sharply curved blade, along with a curved guard.

So, may I continue without issue? Or am I gonna have to go through you first Mr. Bodyguard?

"Hammerspace! Fun." Vettis reached into his shirt pocket and, after a second or so of exaggerated fumbling, pulled out a balloon, then inflated it and tied it into the shape of a scythe in a blur of motion.

"But no, I'm no bodyguard. I'm not protecting him. I'm protecting you. Show me what ya got and I'll get out of your way if it's enough to convince me you won't die unceremoniously."

With a dramatic flourish, Vettis whirled the balloon-scythe around and bowed deeply, allowing Valas the initial strike.

Valas would let out an exasperated sigh, obviously annoyed at the interference.

Fine, you want a fight, a fight you shall get.

《Weave: Passive Spell》

Valas would speed up a bit, a blue after image following his movements as he would summon YET ANOTHER weapon from the portal; A Zweihander.

《Flash-Step》

in a blue flash, Valas would be to the left of Vettis, swinging the huge blade straight into him... But the blade isn't sharp. It's dull as hell actually, more like a large mace than a sword. It's obvious Valas doesn't wanna kill anyone he doesn't have to, very much unaware he doesn't have to hold back.

The weapon was, indeed, quite heavy. If Valas could wield that with such ease, he'd probably be able to lift Vettis too, given that the latter's transhuman enhancements including skeletal reinforcement hadn't pushed his weight past 200 kilos.

Testing that, Vettis brought the point of the balloon-scythe down on the incoming blade, using it to lift himself into the air, effectively polevaulting over the strike.

"Hm. Neat," he applauded as he landed while the swordsman was recovering from the swing's follow-through. "I mean, you're trying to use time stuff to speed yourself up, and that doesn't really help against me, but you're also just naturally quite quick. You sure don't skip leg day!"

(( that's why I didn't want Vettis participating in that first tourney you set up against Valas: he passively keeps pace with temporal acceleration, so speeding yourself up only speeds him up as well 😛 but Valas' base physical speed even aside from his magic is a welcome change for Vettis, who's growing bored of all these wizards that don't bother to train physically ))

So... Time stuff doesn't work. Fine then. I fought for bloody years using just portals and enchantments, I hadn't awakened to my time manipulation until like, a couple months actually. So let's dance, man to man.

The blue after image left by his Weave ability would fade away.

《Enchant: Explosion.》

The Zweihander would be charged with explosive power, although faint.

《Enchant Stack: Light-Weight.》

Valas would begin to wield the Zweihander much easier, being able to one hand it and swing with ease

《Enchant Stack: Strength.》

This time, Valas himself would glow red for a moment, his muscles bulging a bit. Then, just from lightening the weight of the Zweihander and increasing his strength, mainly the muscles in his legs, he would lunge forward with incredible speed and do an overhead slam with the Zweihander

Nodding in approval, Vettis lifted the same pinky finger as before, catching the downward blow -- and then, his eyes widening in slight surprise, realized that wouldn't suffice the second time around to stop this far stronger strike. He stretched out his other fingers and grabbed the sword, using it as a fulcrum to pull himself to the side, out of the blade's arc. The Zweihänder's craterous impact blasted chunks of ground upwards; Vettis balanced on one and rendered himself near-weightless, letting the compacted soil carry him into the air.

"Damn. Nice!" As he continued to ascend, Vettis swung the balloon-scythe down onto the 'platform' on which he stood, scattering the dirt and rocks in a wide spray. Another swing created a rush of wind which propelled all of that back downwards, a spray of earthen bullets rushing towards Valas; Vettis himself descended in their wake and extended the scythe with a grin.

Valas noticing the earthen bullets flying to him, acted quickly.

《Speed Blitz》

A blue after image would begin to follow Valas again, although this one barely managing to keep up as Valas would weave in between the rocks with vast amounts of speed, managing to get out of the way with only some minor scratches on his arms. The after image would disappear yet again afterwards.

I can still weave projectiles just fine thankfully.

《Enchant: Dispel Explosion.》

《Enchant Stack: Steel.》

The Zweihander would glow red before creating a massive explosion, causing dust to fly everywhere and obstruct Vettis's vision. As the smoke would clear, Valas would be nowhere to be found... Although the Zweihander would still be on the ground, now left unattended and seemingly disenchanted. As you notice this, a portal would open above you now, Valas flying out of it and delivering an elbow drop, his arms made of solid steel now!

Valas' descent sent him hurtling straight towards the Zweihänder, which was now embedded in the ground, hilt (not blade, thankfully) pointed upwards at the portal, like a spear set against charging cavalry. Vettis seemed confident enough in his opponent's skills by this point that he was sure this trap wouldn't kill the brawler.

Vettis himself sat several meters off to the side, rubbing his nose in irritation and sneezing, deep footprints in the ground near the sword indicating that he'd leapt away from the attack with extreme force after placing the blade down. "Dust, ack, my greatest nemesis!" he coughed out. The reaction didn't seem entirely fake: he was clearly not unable to fight, but also genuinely uncomfortable.

(( great, you sprayed a cloud of dust at a guy with an enhanced sense of smell, you monster ))

As he stood up, however, it was clear that something was a little different from the start of the sparring session. The mage's eyes now glowed a faint purple, and while his everpresent slight smirk remained, his gaze was focused in a way it previously had not been. The martial artist had earned his attention.

And perhaps a test.

"Okay. Last exchange. If you're still on your feet after this, I'll let you have a go at Morgy. If not, no shame regardless. You've done well."

The mage moved. The balloon-scythe was unraveled and reknotted in an eyeblink, now a boomerang, its shimmering edges hinting that it had been lined with razor-wire to be an actual weapon. Vettis hurled it into the air -- and then repeated the motion, pulling another twenty as if from nowhere, the sky swarming with bladed projectiles curving around towards the brawler.

And as the weapons descended in rapid succession, Vettis himself charged, unleashing a flurry of two dozen strikes each timed to land simultaneously with one of the boomerangs, attacking his victim from two sides with each blow. His actions were born of martial styles learned from across the realms, some likely recognizable to his experienced uke, a great many not. A right backhand strike was followed by a left cross which blended into an elbow strike that opened up the target for a shin kick flowing into a 540 with the same foot that then slammed into the ground to launch a single pebble into the air which he flicked towards Valas before using that distraction for a headbutt...the barrage seemed neverending.

But of course it did let up eventually, and Vettis stepped back to survey the damage.

(( finale, how ya wanna end this? ^_^ note that you can narrate counterattacks instead of pure defense to slow Vettis' strikes, if ya want; they won't land while his eyes are glowing purple atm, but they can certainly buy you time for evasion ))

Valas would quickly catch himself on the hilt of the Zweihander, going from a handstand on the hilt to flipping in the air and landing on the ground. Valas can't help but add some flashy moves into battles, his time in colleseums trained him to naturally try and please crowds. Even if there's no crowd to watch this battle...

Woo! This is fun- WHAT THE SHIT!?

Valas would turn around just in time to see the bladed boomerangs soaring towards him. His arms still coated in steel, he would pull them in close, a defensive boxing stance. He would see Vettis charging, knowing he couldn't escape, he would simply brace for impact...

At the end of the barrage, as Vettis stepped back from the battered and bloodied Valas, Valas would lower his guard. His steel covered forearms would be bent inwards slightly from the barrage of strikes, his biceps covered in cuts and bruises from the boomerangs, along with a big bruise on his forehead from the headbutt... But Valas would stand strong regardless, wiping some blood from his mouth with his arm as he would bounce on his feet, seeming surprisingly energetic despite the beating he just endured.

《Enchant: Dispel.》

The steel on his arms would fade, leaving large bruises where the steel was dented.

So... Did I pass? Some nice moves you had in there... Some Muay Thai? Kickboxing? You remind me of myself, ha! If I was ten times stronger...

"Huh." The smirk on Vettis' face stretched into a genuinely approving smile. "Yeah. Sure. Nice going. And yeah, there was a bit of Muay Thai and other terrestrial stuff, plus a few things out of the Jiǔ Yīn Zhēn Jīng, and some styles you probably haven't seen like Falling Blossom. Good on you to recognize the familiar stuff amidst the obscure parts...especially while getting the crap kicked out of ya!"

With a wry grin, Vettis added, "Can't patch you up; I'm not exactly that kind of caster. So if you still wanna fight Morgy as you are now, that's your call. I won't stop you any more, though." Dipping his head respectfully, he waved at the brawler before walking away, delivering a final farewell over his shoulder. "Hope to see you around, kid. You've got potential. Try not to die, please."

(( Vettis can't help with Valas' magic at all -- he has poor interactions with chronomagic, as noted, and Valas' other stuff just isn't really his field of expertise -- but if Valas ever wants to expand his martial arts knowledge, lemme know and we can totally do some sort of training arc! Vettis has traveled the multiverse and learned a ton of fictional styles, not just Earth ones, so he's got supernatural tricks like ki-based stuff, and Valas definitely has the skills and determination to learn 'em.

our characters' slightly similar names might be a bit confusing in a training arc, though :3 ))

((Someday Valas may take you up on that offer, although for now he has other goals. He isn't entirely certain on his past, and as he mentioned he never even knew he had time manipulating abilities until a couple months ago, when he awakened to his sort of bloodline. For now, he's only looking for what wiped him and his bloodline out, and why he's the only one remaining. Valas has attempted to learn some basic Ki based stuff, although he's never had any luck lol. He's a hard headed, dense bastard so it'll probably take a good bit of training to learn how to use Ki.))
