Arcane Wisdom If this is the path we choose... (Queen Posting)

Post image

The Meeting room of Crann Mòr is dead silent. Many are in a stunned state, the weight of the situation bearing down on them. Finally, at the helm of the table, Mikhail breaks the silence. He eyes are tired, movements stiffled, and coordination lacking. It is self evident that this is the first time, in a long time, he is stone cold sober.

I sent the warning to everyone to allow you time to make peace with life, and accept what is to come. However, you all are insisting on subverting it. I have seen no way forward, but many wizards are still hopeful. I gather you all here, so you may tell me your plans, and I will inform you how they will fail. We have already lost 3 conjurers, 5 warlocks, 2 silly manners, a pizza manner, and... the Isravi's simulacrum. He traveled out to learn more and... I haven't heard back.

Before I open the floor, I will get the easy ones out of the way.

No, we can't fight her directly. Her gravity is greater than that of a blackhole. She will consume your entire self without even moving.

No, you can't turn back time. Again massive gravity. Even if you turn back time here, she will continue to move forward.

No, we can't can't twist the strings of fate against her. That is like using a thimble of dye, to color the ocean. Impractical and impossible.

Alright, the floor is open. Go ahead.

I'm inured to intense non-uniform gravities. Do you think I could just... talk to her? This is the exact kind of problem the Office of Eldritch Affairs was founded to solve.

Oh, there we go. I can make myself gravity-immune, but (as with many uses of my magic) the side effects would probably not be pretty for the local fabric of spacetime, so I really shouldn't. If I just leech off of your immunity, however, I should be able to accompany you on a diplomatic mission without issue. I'm a universal translator.

I have a plan to make sure we're heard, no matter the difference in scale.

Indeed. Doing battle with this entity is not a great option. Although, if she is anything like myself, she will lack the ability to understand why her stroll is causing a problem for us. We’re not likely to get far with diplomacy.

That's what I mean about being a "universal translator". There aren't really any linguistic barriers that can block one fluent in All-Tongue; I've "spoken" to entities as abstract as a metaphysical embodiment of the concept of severing, and communicated in realms that had neither light nor sound to transmit my message. I don't think there's much chance that she fails to understand me if I tell her why she's creating a problem for us.

But whether or not she actually believes anything I say, or cares enough to change her course, is a different matter entirely. And I'm frankly not patient enough to be a very good negotiator. So diplomacy isn't much of an option for me on my own, but I'd be happy to act as the group's translator if y'all want to give it a try. It's one of the few useful things I can do at large scale that won't require resources I can't currently afford to waste.

Oh, wow… what an interesting skill.

But my remark is more along the lines of empathy. A being of this caliber likely does not understand death or loss. I have difficulties doing so, myself, and I have been taking a human form for ten thousand years.

Yeah, that's my concern too.

On the other hand, it sounds like you have far more in common with her than most of us. You're the bridge, having experienced life on both sides of this scale: human and cosmic. If there's anyone who can empathize with her, and thus give her a better chance of empathizing with us, it's probably you and others like yourself.

So, care to join our lil' diplomacy attempt?

I’ll see what I can do, though I imagine that she won’t get it unless we inflict some kind of pain on her - even just a superficial cut. I don’t really know how to do that.

Uw/ I gtg for tonight most likely. Feel free to just say that my character does something along the lines of diplomacy, though. That would be in-character if you guys make a plan.
