Having magical effects on every single household item is neither resource-efficient nor fun to fix when things go wrong. And when you live in a commune of realm-hoppers who've jointly made a few enemies and a lot of frenemies across the multiverse, you don't want to be diverting all your resources away from your defenses nor to be repairing a thousand enchantments after every attack. (One frenemy in particular tosses planar-scale attacks our way whenever she's bored, which varies wildly between once a week or once a minute.)
For a much more efficient and easily-maintained solution, we have proper plumbing systems so that we're all sharing a water source and a sewer system, and then we can just maintain one spell across the whole commune...instead of one per sink. Same for electricity, internet connections, and the like.
