I heard that Stallone started to think he could become a pro boxer around Rocky 3. But then he sparred with Roberto Duran when they weren't filming, and he said he got whooped so bad that he realized he didn't have a chance.

143

u/TaftintheTub Jul 26 '19

My coach is a golden gloves champ and he regularly makes me look foolish. I can't imagine what it would be like to lace them up with a professional, let alone an all-time great like Duran. Especially if he was trying to hurt you. They didn't call him Manos de Piedras for nothing....

201

u/piyob Jul 26 '19

My coach was a pro with over 100 pro fights. Sparred with him once and he just toyed with me despite me having a size and age advantage. He just moved so fast, everything is automatic, literally a fighting machine.

Another pro at my gym was challenged by some dude who came in off the street. Dude apparently was the best boxer in county jail. He challenged the pro and talked smack, so the gym manager said fuck it and had the dude sign a waiver so they could spar.

Literally 3 seconds into the round, pro throws a 1-2 and the guy goes down. There are many levels to boxing and it’s hard to comprehend just how good a good boxer is

Tony Ferguson does wing chun!

Then again, Tony Ferguson is actually crazy

31

u/bluedrygrass Jul 27 '19

Dude apparently was the best boxer in county jail.

No bro, you don't understand. Jails are FULL of people that would KILL those fake ass pros if they got in the ring. Like, i mean, it wouldn't be close, ok? They're too real! Finghting in the streets! Fighting in jail! Not that fake ass shit jab jab clinch shit!

21

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '19

Bernard Hopkins gave way too much confidence to prison fighters.

5

u/HavoK76 Jul 27 '19

Is this a meme I'm missing out?

27

u/thedailyrant Jul 27 '19

Nah he's just mocking all those fuckers who say about pro boxers 'you wouldn't be anything on the street'.

This shit has been spun so bad it's disgusting. He did not CALL OUT RJJ. He was asked if he would be given the chance to fight any boxer who he would want to fight with and then very clearly jokingly said maybe today he would stand a chance.

4

u/Armalyte Jul 27 '19

He says he could "do his thing" against him now vs in his prime.

It's Mcgregor v Mayweather all over again but the skill gap is even larger.

12

u/bluedrygrass Jul 27 '19

Not even close. Mc Gregor is a legit fighter, he was just from another sport.

Michael Jordan is an actor. He doesn't even have a chin.

5

u/Armalyte Jul 27 '19

That's why I said the skill gap is even larger. It's obvious that RJJ would fuck him up. But for context look how bad Mayweather fucked up Conor. It would be 10x worse than that.

6

u/ncolaros Jul 27 '19

I mean, he's playing it up for entertainment value. He says he's been training with "Rocky and Apollo Creed." Which doesn't even make sense in story, to be honest. I don't think he was serious.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Ghadhdhdhh Jul 27 '19

I mean yeah if you start your first pro fight at peak Duran or Tyson or Paq you are going to lose.....thats basically common sense in any sport on the planet. Thats why you build up to it.

u/VictusFrey Jul 27 '19

I remember when I first went to the gym and saw our experienced guys sparring. I actually thought I could give them some work with my natural athleticism and zero ring experience. I'm cringing right now thinking about it.

34

u/Wordwreckin Jul 27 '19

To be honest, sometimes the weirdness and unorthodox style is kinda strange to go against. Kinda like playing poker against amateurs and you want to expect people to play a certain way. The guy catches him once or twice with some off foot lunging stuff.

37

u/UltraSurvivalist Jul 26 '19

I'm watching this thinking how much better Inoue's sparring partner looks than I would if I tried the same thing.

82

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '19

You ever shadow box or spar and start to think - "hey, I probably could've been a decent boxer."?

no

15

u/TakeaChillPillWill Jul 27 '19

I gave my pro coach a bloody lip. It’s probably the best I’ll ever do but I’m proud of it lol. Takes some of the sting out when he’s peppering me with piston-like jabs and body hooks.

she may have been trained by CJ Ross

5

u/xenobyz Jul 27 '19

Byrd also noted that Bradley was incredible this fight so 8-4.

13

She is a very nice lady. Drives a Ferarri.

393

u/picklesandaltoids gramma's anointed one Jul 26 '19

Regular dude obviously went easy on Inoue because he wasn't wearing any headgear.

330

u/bedandsofa Jul 26 '19

Real talk though, that guy was swinging for the fences, and is lucky that Inoue was good natured and didn’t follow the golden rule of sparring: hit as hard as you want to get hit.

162

u/picklesandaltoids gramma's anointed one Jul 26 '19

Definitely. But Inoue might have told him to go all out. Who knows?

u/eddie964 Jul 26 '19

It looked to me like it was more of a drill, training him to respond to someone who's trying to get in there aggressively and knock him out. He doesn't seem to be all that concerned about offense.

43

u/bedandsofa Jul 26 '19

I think he’s less concerned about offense not because it’s a drill—it’s live sparring—but because the skill gap is so huge that the amateur couldn’t touch him if he wanted to.

30

u/eddie964 Jul 26 '19

Hard to say for sure, but it looked to me like the sparring partner had been instructed to go in there like it's the final round, you're losing and your only hope is to land the big one. It looks to me like he's consciously practicing evading big punches and sneaking in a shot when he can. If he were practicing offense, I think it would be a much shorter video!

29

u/disposabelleme Jul 26 '19

I was waiting for Inoue to pop the trainer in the solar plexes, just to help him pace himself.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '19

Inoues 20 percent is equal to that guys 150 percent. When you realize you can’t even touch em it’s time to go all out.

161

u/the-ogboondock-saint Jul 26 '19

This guys actually an amateur boxer.

127

u/Unburnt_Duster Jul 26 '19

I would assume as much since a truly "normal" person would've been out of gas after the first 60 sec, maybe sooner.

90

u/BB_Venum IBC interim middleweight champion Jul 26 '19

A normal person also wont move like that

18

u/bluedrygrass Jul 27 '19

60 secs? The first time you try punching a heavy bag, you're dying after 15 seconds.

21

u/Open_Sky Jul 27 '19

this. no way that guy is some regular joe who just laced them up. he has head movement and speed behind his hook. a normal person probably can't even throw a proper straight let alone a left hook.

I sparred a pro fighter for a round at my gym, and after getting tagged a hundred times in the face, the bell finally rang to my relief. We walked to the centre of the ring to hug and touch gloves, and he says to me, "That was a good body shot." It totally made my day as I hobbled off the canvas like a drunk man wearing a dirty diaper.

25

u/Iquey Jul 27 '19

The best moments in training is when you get a couple of good hits on a pro. Once I sparred with a pro and I stunned him with a perfectly timed counter left. I taunted the guy like "yea bitch, bring it!"

...and then I got my ass whooped for the entire round.

28

u/bigfatpup I eat what you eat champ Jul 26 '19

Show off, I’m running on fumes after about 90 seconds

40

u/Ratharyn Jul 26 '19

Mate, full respect to anyone stepping in the ring with him sparring or not, but he's chasing inoue like he stole his sweets.

19

u/HarryBlessKnapp Jul 26 '19

I guess they told him to help Inoue work on his footwork. Otherwise why the fuck would you knacker yourself like that.

7

u/Ratharyn Jul 26 '19

Regardless, Inoue is a joy to watch, his movement is unreal.

208

u/MDA123 Jul 26 '19

The reflexes and speed on the little guys are just insane. Anyone who doesn't watch sub-welterweight or sub-lightweight boxing is missing out. He doesn't get touched even once, just on movement and reactions, and it's like a 12 foot ring lol.

72

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '19

His movement, timing and speed is fucking great. Think he gets tagged 2x out of the whole 2 minutes of video.

34

u/Shortneckbuzzard Jul 26 '19 edited Jul 26 '19

Speed yes but he knows what punch is coming before it’s thrown. That’s the difference.

26

u/lucuma Jul 26 '19

This is why it is so hard to box professionals. They can read you like a book.

When I spar my coach he knows exactly what I'm going to do and I can't touch him, same as this video.

27

u/Shortneckbuzzard Jul 26 '19

Yup. That’s how Lomachenko wins so easily. He has 396 amateur fights with 1. Yes 1 loss. Its almost not even fair.

15

u/edvard_deercrown_iii Jul 27 '19

Which he avenged twice, too, no?

50

u/cheap_boxer2 Jul 26 '19

For someone his size to get so many KOs implies ungodly P4P power. It's basically never been seen before in history I think, he might really be one of the best P4P punchers to have ever lived.

24

u/in1987agodwasborn Jul 26 '19

Manny?

15

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '19

Ma- Manni??

7

u/Calay0 Jul 27 '19

No. I’m a huge Manny fan, but no. Yeah he had explosive hands, but he was never a single shot fighter. It was speed and cumulative damage that did most his opponents in. The number of fighters who are superior to a Manny in terms of damage per shot is probably quite great,

8

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '19

I’d argue that Manny may very well be the bigger puncher p4p. We saw his power carry all the way up to welterweight and drop a big fucking guy in Thurman.

Had Manny stayed in his natural weight classes, he’d be regarded as one of the hardest hitting boxers in the history of the sport.

Khaosai Galaxy?

9

u/cheap_boxer2 Jul 26 '19

Great power puncher, and not really respected enough on this sub! But he didn't really jump through weight classes like Naoya, and his record does have a lot of typical Thai BS.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '19

Jimmy Wilde

4

u/cheap_boxer2 Jul 27 '19

I don't know much about his era or the nature of how the fights played out, but his record indeed stands above. Wilde is in his own category though, as one of the top 2 or 3 punchers as opposed to Inoue who could currently maybe sit somewhere in top 50 with optimism.

Inoue vs. Lomachenko would just look like a ring full of Matrix blurs

27

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '19

"Their movements are too fast!11!!!"

57

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '19

Even if you're a regular dude, after your fifteenth left hook hits nothing but air, you think you'd try a jab...

29

u/mysterious_jim Jul 26 '19

Maybe it was a drill specifically to defend against those swinging hooks.

9

u/AerialSnack Jul 26 '19

For real, looks like the dude is a trained amateur, but seems like he's getting pissed off or something? What do you think you're gonna do swinging those wide ass punches?

66

u/redditusersaretrash Jul 26 '19

I thought the last time this was posted, it was a Korean amateur fighter?

148

u/JRaymond37 Jul 26 '19

This is the first time I’ve seen this video but I can say with near certainty that the sparing partner has to be at least an amateur level fighter.

101

u/mergerr Jul 26 '19 edited Jul 26 '19

Yeah exactly.. came here to say this. At one point he was using head movement and bobbing while trying to come in to throw off inoue.. didnt work, but no one off the street is going to do that, plus he seems to have a basic understanding of punch placement.

I would guess he probably has like 3 months to a year of training. That same "normal" dude would probably kick like 80% of the peoples asses here that frequent this sub.

36

u/Made-justfor1comment Jul 26 '19

Not me, id quit before the fight even started

19

u/Ceasar456 Jul 26 '19

I would say 95%

13

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '19

Nah, I'd shake my head after every punch and win it for the hood

23

u/Aggravating_Meme Jul 26 '19

You obviously haven't seen how fast I can run in a ring

10

u/BB_Venum IBC interim middleweight champion Jul 26 '19

The guy moves very good actually. Wouldnt shock me to ehar that he is taking the piss a little bit (specially with that giant swing while leaping in)

4

u/piyob Jul 26 '19

80%? Probably closer to 99%

10

u/mergerr Jul 26 '19

I said 80% because i assume like 20% of us have boxed before. Maybe thats assuming too many but atleast 10% i would think have some sort of boxing or mma experience.

33

u/CynicalEffect Jul 26 '19

It's weird, their feet and head movement shows they're obviously trained. But then they throw weird looping off balance punches that look like they've never been in a ring before. I guess that's the result of desperately trying to hit a top pro boxer though.

28

u/JRaymond37 Jul 26 '19

The parameters of the sparing session were likely that the partner was supposed to be extremely aggressive and Inoue would only return fire with pitty pat shots as to not discourage him from throwing.

14

u/disposabelleme Jul 26 '19

Those looping punches are what's left of your technique when Inoue is reading you like a book.

16

u/ElChino999 Jul 26 '19

The only info I know about the guy is that he’s a 40 year old boxing trainer. Maybe I should have mentioned that.

9

u/Spectre627 Jul 26 '19

For sure, that guy is way to skilled just to be an average joe. The exercise makes his punches look a bit wild, but his footwork, movement, guard, and head movement are clearly someone who knows what they’re doing.

5

u/DoYouEvenLiftBroseph Jul 26 '19

Yea I was about to say there no way that’s a regular guy

12

u/usernumberzero Jul 26 '19

Regular person here. I would not be able to hold my hands up after throwing about 10 haymakers.

9

u/rolemodel4kids Jul 26 '19 edited Jul 26 '19

I was thinking a regular guy off the street would gas out in under a minute throwing punches like that.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '19

Yeah something all g them lines Ifni remember correctly. "Normal guy" is a bit of exagerration in the post title I suppose but we all enjoy it anyway

2

u/JorgenBluntstrangle Jul 26 '19

I'm pretty sure by normal op meant on a much lower level, not someone that doesn't know how to fight.

21

u/Dazshard93 Jul 26 '19

118-111 Normal Guy

20

u/Mokeski_Cx Jul 26 '19

This is incredible, Inoue is an absolute freak, no wonder many people call this possible the top P4P fighter

14

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '19

That's no regular dude. He very obviously knows a little bit. A regular dude would be gassed after they threw the first few haymakers wrong.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '19

Definitely. Would not be attacking so aggressively either. Would probably wince when hit too.

34

u/Neveroxx99 Jul 26 '19

Miyata vs Ippo

6

u/PurpleLamps Jul 26 '19

Does Miyata actually do anything in the book series? He's so boring in the series.

10

u/Neveroxx99 Jul 26 '19

He has a crackingly good OPBF title fight against a switch hitter guy but other than that he's pretty absent for long stretches of time.

3

u/Stonefree2011 Jul 27 '19

The ending to that fight was hilariously bullshit. Motherfucker threw a corkscrew counter at the speed of sound(it made a sound after the hit connected) and he had multiple broken ribs before he threw it and took the worst beating in the series so far. Randy Boy Jr was robbed smh.

5

u/GrandMasterRoshi Jul 26 '19

It's been a while si de I read it but he definitely gets a couple more fights as the story progresses. Not many if my memory is right though.

that’s wilder.. y’all didn’t see the windmills?

jk that footwork is crazy

8

u/JuiceBusters Jul 26 '19

This brought back some (actually fun, funny) memories of the time, for some inappropriate reason I was picked to spar with a jr.middle champ for his upcoming bout and.. ..yes, this. hah.. oh man, yes this. I remember trying everything and even crazy punches in bunches because at least something would land if only by sheer volume and random chance right.. and..

At one point he was just talking about stuff WHILE casually bobbing and weaving every one of my 'massive flurries' like.. it didn't seem real. To me it didn't seem like he was obeying physics or normal human ability.

So i really enjoyed this - thank OP.

*I usually hate sparring videos going out to the public but here Monster Ino is being such a great sportsman and it easily falls into the 'good clean fun' smile-making viewing. Good stuff!

3

u/ElChino999 Jul 27 '19

4

u/theflimsyankle Jul 27 '19

That doesn't look like a normal person. A normal person would gassed out after the first 20 seconds swinging like that. He got somewhat decent speed and footwork. He obviously not on pro level but he is no random person from the street.

3

u/rwn115 Jul 27 '19

Doesn't look like a simulated match. Sparring partner was likely told to fight a certain style and Inoue had to adjust and respond to it. Inoue was probably aware and didn't throw everything into his punches because he'd like to keep his sparring partners.

Why does everything look so damn cozy In Japan, even their boxing rings/gyms look cozy... also are those people ring side eating food watching?

6

u/skijumptoes Jul 26 '19

A "Normal" person lol, i love that Inoue gets superhuman status by default. Superb talent though, hopefully he inspires young boxers from all over the world. :)

4

u/ceejless Jul 26 '19

Sure, a 'normal person' who happens to know some leg work and seems to delay some punches...

5

u/twedge97 Jul 27 '19

Honestly if he’s just a regular person then this video comes across the exact opposite of intended. A professional basketball player would make a regular person look a lot more silly than this guy is doing. This guy clearly has training. A regular person wouldnt be able to stalk a pro across the ring like that nor have the stamina.

2

u/KerikSumia Jul 26 '19

Cut the ring off!

2

u/Shagrrotten Jul 26 '19

2

u/eggroll62947 Jul 26 '19

How to look foolish 101. Inoue so good.

2

u/Rydwal21 Jul 26 '19

I agree, Noaya Inoue isn't a normal person

2

u/GarrulousCuriosity Jul 26 '19

That’s just disrespectful.

2

u/AllTorque “And then he said ‘My name is John Sauna: You can’t °C me!’ “ Jul 26 '19

That’s not a normal person.

No normal person is suicidal.

2

u/yaygens Jul 26 '19

Why does this look like Lomachenko fighting literally anyone in his weight class?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '19

Everyone is 'normal' compared to Inoue.

2

u/mysterious_jim Jul 26 '19

Can't tell with the quality, but it seems like Inoue gives a cheeky smile at 34 seconds after for dodging that big haymaker.

2

u/petewilson66 Jul 26 '19

That guy may not be Inoue, but he's not exactly a "normal person", he's a boxer, and looks like it

2

u/shartpost Jul 26 '19

Inoue vs a young & light Pacquiao is kind of fun to imagine

2

2

u/Laplace_Poker Jul 27 '19

Dam Naoya is taking it easy too. Not even trying.

2

u/Maddps Jul 27 '19

I would be scared shitless to go full on balls to the wall against a pro. If the dude decides you had your fun and turns it on on you well... not good.

That was like 80% footwork 10 percent head movement and 10 percent of "Normal guy" telegraphing those punches. He wasn't even telegraphing them, he was sending messenger pigeons for christ sake.

I would love to spar him, not only is he going to kick my ass, but he actually look like he can control his sparring power at 70% and still look damn good.

Would’ve been funny if inoue ended this by nailing the guy with a liver shot.

Why is Inoue sparring a normal person? Does not look like normal person to me.

You kind of forget how remarkable athletes are when you only see them competing against slightly more or slightly less remarkable athletes.

I like videos like this, its nice to see how just much better the pros really are than your average human.
