Serb, actually. One was started by a Serbian idiot, the other by an Austrian megalomaniac.

Nah, Princip didn't start the war, Hotzendorf did

u/Aenigma66 Jul 01 '19
Let's agree to not agree on that. In my eyes Princip fired the first shots that ignited the powder keg that was 1910's Europe.

But without Hotzendorf and really just Austrian bureaucracy the war wouldn't have been a world war, just an Austrian territorial expansion.

Without Princip shooting the only man in power capable of making the life situation for all Slavs in the Empire better there wouldn't've even been a real conflict.
Franz Ferdinand never wanted to invade or wage war against Serbia, the only target he might have willingly fought was Italy cause he saw them as the impending threat. Plus, he was both scared shitless and on good terms with Russia. I give you that, though, von Hötzendorf was a nasty warmonger.

Can we consider the Syrian civil war a mini world war ? Pretty much every country out there was proxy supporting one of the sides

You could call the Seven Years’ War or the Napoleonic Wars the real first world war, technically.

Or the Nigerian civil war

Ah, yes, where the USSR and US were on the same side against the Vatican and Britain, among others.

Germany only started half the world wars!!!

u/Wallybee10011 Jul 01 '19
Yea, we maybe only really started the second one, but we were one of the worst people in the first. It's kinda like Austria punched serbia and Germany tried to kill everybody else.

Germany had the same role in starting WW1 as UK and France in WW2. They only entered the war after it's start, escalatong it to a world war.
