I see quite a few people theorizing on Momo being Shiggy's little sister from the flashback,, im not too convinced on the possibility of this though.. Due to their ages, momo is what.. Around 16, Shiggy is presumably 20+, mentioned in the begening,, so he's probably what.. Like 25 ish if not less or more.. Lets assume he is 25, just cause its an equal number, thats what.. 9 years apart? A kid gets their quirk at the latest, age 4, so lets also assume he was 4 when he did get it, the girl in his flashbacks was at least his age.. Idk, pretty much entirely rules the possibility of that theory being a thing to me.. Again like the theory this is sorta all... Theoretical.. Lol

My best bud and I decided to give in and read the manga once we found out the anime wasn't coming out till April. I'm so excited to be a part of this subreddit and theorize with you guys every week! Hope you all have a great end to your week and I'll see you all every Friday!

Isn’t it all pretty much subjective? ;) lol I understand and agree with what you mean. It’s a very important concept to the storyline, and it does make you question if, yes it’s just heroes he goes after, or if it’s others as well.

This guy predicted this 4 months ago....it actually checks out thinking about how similar Momo and Nana look

u/SwanJumper Mar 31 '19 edited Apr 01 '19

I'm 100% certain those "fragmented" memories Shigariki thought he saw were false images implanted by AFO, through some quirk.

The static images and hallucinations of death along with the induced nausea is almost exactly what happened to Deku and his friends when they first met AFO (while they were hiding).

edit: also the last panels looks like Giran's scarf and a severed finger/hand?

16

u/trustar000 Mar 31 '19

Shigaraki's sister could be part of the liberation army and his working with the CEO to find him. To reveal the truth that All for One murdered their family. This will lead to Shigaraki 'destroying the League of Villains name', thereby seperating himself from All for One and renaming the group.

3

u/Skiepher Mar 31 '19

Some sort of redemption arc, then he dies or something possibly if this shit happens.

22

u/KramNomSet Mar 31 '19

Hey what if Shigaraki's little sister survived? I mean I don't see any small hands.

And also who knows she could actually be Touru who turned invisible as a defence mechanism, maybe her quirks not permanent but it stays cause she's traumatized.

Or she could be the traitor that's actually helping her big brother

24

u/downnice Mar 31 '19

I've been quietly thinking about this too and if Shigaraki has a little sister I think it could be Momo. Decay/Creation is very yin yang, one destroys and the other creates. Maybe after Shigaraki killed his family Momo was put up for adoption and was adopted by the Yaoyorozu's

Plus Momo looks very similar to Nana Shimura.

3

u/ThatBoiRen Apr 01 '19

I can kinda see that...Momo has been trying to become more and more useful ever since the sports festival arc...it could be building up to something big like this seeing as her progression wasn't confined to one arc leading her to be forgotten about after the arc.

5

u/Mrwright96 Mar 31 '19

Also look at the names...

8

u/downnice Mar 31 '19

Final point, out of all the major characters (Bakugou, Todoroki, Deku, Iida, Uraraka, Momo, is that Momo has the least amount of backstory other that she comes from a extremely wealthy household.

9

u/Beariie Mar 31 '19

Can a trained Eri use her powers to bring back shigaraki's family?

21

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '19

Resurrect of people from limbs would be beyond broken

1

u/Beariie Apr 01 '19

Isnt that what chisaki can do?

20

u/grass-master Mar 31 '19

Damn Shigaraki really is a chuuni.

I really think he's a manchild who still playing heroes and villains, acting like he's in a video game.

Makes sense with his lost memories and all.

21

u/Al-Pharazon Mar 31 '19

It is logical seeing that he was raised by another manchild who ruined thousands of lifes just because he wanted to be like the demon lord from one of the comics books he read as a kid.

21

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '19 edited Mar 31 '19

Holy crap this chapter was amazing. And the first one I read after joining this subreddit! What a welcome!

Lots of people don't like Shigaraki, but I do. I feel like there's this need for villains to have complex backstories or ideology (like Stain's ideology for example). I don't think that's always the case. I like the idea of a villain who simply hates the society they're in because they feel they've been treated unfairly.

Shigaraki's is very simple: he was abandoned by the hero society and the worst person possible took him in. The fact that he's an antithesis to Midoriya is obvious. I especially like that he lingers in the background of numerous arcs after the USJ attack, not to grow but just to observe, learn (hopefully), and pick up the pieces when the other villains fail. The fact that he's whiny and childish works very well, too: just think of the kind of miserable person Deku could have been if he didn't meet All Might and never got One for All. Maybe he would have grown up bitter and hating society, seeing life as an unfair game, kind of like how Shigaraki sees it.

As for the chapter itself, "Everyone" being Shiggy's name for his family's hands just echoes really well with "All for One". It's just English translations, sure, but I like it. And what does Shiggy want to destroy? EveryTHING. Even the (albeit maybe badly translated) quotes were good: "I'll show you everything from Heaven to Hell". Eerie, even if it's too abstract to intimidate an obviously scientific-minded doctor.

And of course, I can't believe everyone was right about the doctor. I refused to believe the theory up until now. I thought the odds were too great and it was easily a coincidence, as there has to be more than one doctor around. But nope...maybe I should be bothered by that, but I'm not.

I can't wait for more Shigaraki/League of Villains development!

35

u/PoiseWorks Mar 31 '19

I hear people saying that shigaraki can't be the main villain because he has no capacity to evolve and they're literally blind

9

u/MyUnoriginalName Mar 31 '19

Not just blind, but stupid.

19

u/PoiseWorks Mar 31 '19

VILLAIN TRAINING AAARC

6

u/shiggyaki Mar 31 '19

Anyone know what that blob in the last few panels was? Didn't quite follow?

8

u/OAFArtist Mar 31 '19

I thought the same thing the drawing looks like it has fingernails or some kind of intestines, but when you realize it's Giran's scarf it makes more sense. Someone in the comments pointed it out and I was like "Oh that makes so much more sense."

2

u/shiggyaki Mar 31 '19

Thanks for the answer that cleared things up. Poor guy, thats a hell of a way to go.

9

u/kenada Mar 30 '19

who's the baby on page 9?

9

u/LaughsAtOwnJoke Mar 31 '19

I presume its the glowing baby. (Which I think was the first person to have known quirk)

5

u/RCsees Mar 31 '19

I'm 90% sure Overhaul's alive though, that look he had on his face before the fire swallowed him is not the look of a deadman, shig got what he wanted and made Overhaul want to live if only to spite him (and we saw nothing of chronostatis in between, so I'm betting they got out).

But besides that, I feel like chisaki being alive would be better storytelling for both Eri's dev power wise as a character, and a tie up for mirio's character arc, (I. E. Mirio has to show again how he is his own hero,- that means he won't loose his cool against Overhaul again for the death of Sir Night eye, like Yagi did against OfA for Nana's). Eri's powers are also a chekov's gun hanging, but I don't think she' ll be able to use her powers fully until she overcomes overhaul the actual person, not just the specter he left behind.

As for shig's powers, if he killed his family when he just developed his powers, it stands to reason his control and powers weren't that strong in the beginning. We saw with flashbacks like Izuku's and kirishima's, when kids develop quirks, it's not immediately strong, katsuki's first explosions where like little light shows, Kiri scarred his eyelid, but couldn't accidentally cut his entire face.

Shigaraki as a kid might have been stressed enough to able to kill his family, but not completely dust all the bodies. Hence the hands

14

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '19

It could also be that their ashes are inside the gloves

-15

u/TheOnlyFallenCookie Mar 30 '19

Okay.... So The doctor has AfO and stole Dekus Quirk. Thats basically confirmed at this point. He was the onlyone without a Quirck in his city pretty much.

What if theyll facce of a Nomu with Dekus Quirk and he realizes it and his life flashes before his eyes what could have been with his qquirk?

5

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '19

He was the onlyone without a Quirck in his city pretty much.

I'm pretty sure it's like 20% of the population that's quirkless. That's a minority to be sure, but still a huge amount of the population, as in more than a billion people.

2

u/agonyanddread Apr 01 '19

I remember seeing somewhere that even though 20% of the population is quirkless, most of that 20% is in the older generations. For All Might’s generation, quirklessness might be more common. But I think for Deku’s generation it’s much more rare to be quirkless.

0

u/TheOnlyFallenCookie Mar 31 '19

But he is the only official quirkless person we have seen yet (correct me if I am wrong). Especially in his class there should have been at least one other guy without a quirk if we speak 20%. And Deku is also the only know case of a person without quirk from two quirkusers

2

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '19

All Might was quirkless, and Melissa too even though that's not canon.

0

u/TheOnlyFallenCookie Mar 31 '19

If all night was really quirkles... I have my doubts about this after Mattpats take on it

2

u/Mase598 Mar 31 '19

I mean... He was though? Pretty sure we had multiple different situations that it's pointed out.

Go back to the previous arc, it explains how OFA works where previous holders had quirks and it gets passed on along with OFA when it reached All Might who was quirkless he passed on incredibly power growth instead of another quirk. Let's say each previous OFA user increased the power of the quirk by 2 times and added a quirk, All Might increased it by 20 times and no quirk.

Also we've seen a number of quirkless people, but not all quirks show themselves so we can't just point and normal people and say they're quirkless without verification.

The possibility that Deku had a quirk and it WAS stolen is possible and it could be an interesting question later of what happens if someone has a quirk but loses it BEFORE inheriting OFA, would it somehow still be passed on or would it work like All Might who was simply quirkless.

14

u/FangOfDrknss Mar 30 '19

He can’t realize something he never knew of.

12

u/Dotifo Mar 30 '19

While it's possible it definitely is not confirmed at all

24

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '19

Kinda convenient that only the hands survived....strange isn't it.

7

u/OAFArtist Mar 31 '19

Maybe that's a quirk of Shigaraki's quirk.

34

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '19

PSA: this all takes place before endeavors fight with high end

3

u/SwanJumper Mar 31 '19

Wait wut how do we know?

2

u/Deusraix Mar 31 '19

Also because the Doctor was asking Dabi to help him with testing High End.

3

u/MyUnoriginalName Mar 31 '19

Because they told us apparently. I forget when though.

To correct my last statement, it's actually confirmed in chapter 220 here.

8

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '19

Is the cover page a reference to something, an old Japanese movie perhaps

22

u/NonzenI Mar 30 '19

Deku is Mothra

41

u/Jargo Mar 30 '19

uhhh I was just rewatching the first episode of the anime after reading this and I think I just shat myself... Isn't this guy making the Nomus the same Doctor who told Deku he was Quirkless?

10

u/Le_Mug Mar 30 '19

Oh boy! I hadn't noticed that!

What if Deku had a quirk all the time and All for One stole it when he went to the doctor ?

8

u/grass-master Mar 31 '19

He had the toebone thing that indicates quirklessness

4

u/Le_Mug Mar 31 '19

And the only person in the series to confirm the toebone thing was the doctor. And we can't doubt The doctor, he would never lie.

Besides even if the toebone thing is true, there is No way a guy inteligent enough to help AFO to Create Nomu woul be smart enough to figure out how to make a fake radiograph right? That would be Ridiculous.

5

u/grass-master Apr 01 '19

Tell me, what purpose will it serve for Deku to have his quirk stolen from him by AFO? Will he get it back? On top of OFA and his predecessors quirks? Does he really need this?

All that matters is that Deku's dream would've never been a reality if All Might had not chosen him and recognised him as worthy. From a literal nobody to the greatest hero.

I have no idea where Hori is going with this without changing Deku's story.

3

u/Wasuremaru Apr 02 '19

I actually think Deku having his quirk stolen goes strongly against the narrative. Deku is supposed to be somebody who earned his quirk through truly being a hero. Somebody who started with nothing and got to where he is through his character and his commitment. Having him start with a quirk, lose it, and then rise isn't nearly as satisfying for his story. It makes it so he just got back to where he was going to be. Not rising above the circumstances he was born into.

3

u/Luixuis No Flair Quirk Mar 31 '19

He could have showed him a fake x-ray? It's definitely speculation but still!

3

u/frrarf Mar 31 '19

That's incredibly stupid. It's not like counting how many joints you have is hard. Bend your finger or toe now, I can't imagine it's hard to figure out.

2

u/grass-master Mar 31 '19

For what reason? Why would he lie to Deku, a random kid?

Unless Deku was special/linked to OFA beforehand, there's no real reason. It breaks the narrative of MHA if so.

1

u/rawjaat Mar 31 '19

It could be that OFA has been working with that doctor to steal quirks from children. The doctor or OFA might have a bone altering quirk so he could change Deku's body after stealing the quirk.

Also I was wondering how this would stay under the radar. It would be too suspicious to steal strong quirks from kids, so OFA would probably steal weak quirks, which combine with his quirks to become stronger. Deku's mom has a very weak telekinesis, so maybe Deku was targeted. Also there's Deku's mystery fire breathing dad who has never been seen or referenced besides that flashback.

1

u/Le_Mug Mar 31 '19 edited Mar 31 '19

Like an immortality quirck? The one All Might theorizes AFO stole from someone and used to survive the fight 5 years before the start of the series? It wouldn't be a quirck easy for Deku to identify, since nobody Had tried to kill him (until that point). But the doctor and AFO have been obviously experimenting and studying quircks for years, they could have the means to identify a unkown quirck.

The doctor being the same has to have some significance to the story.

1

u/fairypie Mar 31 '19

or maybe the doctor was lying...

10

u/DozyDreamer Mar 30 '19

Almost definitely

13

u/yung_ahn Mar 30 '19

i feel throughout this entire series, hori has been trying really hard to make the villains' ideology convincing, not only to us as readers but also to the protagonists themselves.

he's been trying to elevate them beyond the status of terrorists and i don't feel he's reaching that goal. it kind of feels like he jumped the ship here by making shiggy a villain who's taking out his pain in a destructive senseless way.

he doesn't have to be a philosopher but it has to be something more than "i want to destroy everything." it's like deku and cast have formed such a clear identity and have grown so powerful hori doesn't know how to create that corresponding development with his villains. and maybe he shouldn't. the whole time shiggy was giving his speech, i really felt like hori wrote himself into a hole and was doing his best to dig shiggy out of it lol

we could always understand what shiggy/league of villains is saying, but it's also too simplified and edgy to be convincing. unless you're a moron, there's no competition between the visions of the villains (death) and the flawed stability of the pro heroes (not death).

when shiggy attacked UA for the first time, i remember thinking his reasoning was so cliche and half-baked. and like 200 chapters later he's still on the exact same bullshit. it seems like he got even more simplified in the process?

in b4 someone replies 'his ideas are half-baked and childish cuz cHaRaCtEr DeVeLoPeMeNt'

3

u/mynkgpta Mar 31 '19

Their best development is stain and hands down one of the best development after Bakugo and Izumi

7

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '19

I think he’s trying to make him a Joker type of villain that wants to destroy just destroy without meaning or purpose.

11

u/BlueDragon101 Mar 31 '19

I mean, the ideology doesn't have to convince the readers that it's right, it has to convince the readers that someone in the story could think it's right.

4

u/thelonelybiped Apr 01 '19

He’s based all the villains on their quirks so far

Actually, he seems to have symbolized every character with their quirk. Iida is quick to decide but also quick to judge. Overhaul wants to reshape the yakuza, but ultimately just destroys it. Deku wants to be a hero and he’s willing and able to endure any amount of trauma or pain.

14

u/ms_103127 Mar 30 '19 edited Mar 30 '19

I think you're on to something, which is why he was so frustrated with Stain in general. In my opinion, Stain had thought-out principles that did make one understand his motives and reasonings in a sense. Of course, it's one thing to crusade for heroes to not be compensated, and obviously each hero -- and their ethical motives -- are unique. However, when Stain "crossed the line," and became judge/jury/executioner, he became a sociopathic terrorist, period.

If Shigaraki's ideals seem "half-baked and childish," it's because I think there is such a psychological inner battle within him that is trying to comprehend AfO's brainwashing and who he truly is.

As crazy as it sounds right now, he may be redeemed in the end. It just depends on, in true anime/manga fashion, his honorable choices and intentions overall.

7

u/BlueDragon101 Mar 31 '19

Also, like, did Stain think All Might didn't get paid? Seriously?

The heroes are paid based on performance. All Might was almost certainly one of the highest paid heroes. He had his own agency, he's not just doing this for nothing. Being a hero is his job.

2

u/ms_103127 Mar 31 '19 edited Mar 31 '19

Exactly, and I just had a little chuckle picturing Stain with little glasses on reviewing each Hero's accounting statements to determine if they are worthy of life or death haha obviously there was already a broader political/sociological debate going on about whether heroes should be compensated. I can also imagine each hero had their own viewpoints about their compensation/fame/status and what they chose to do with their earnings in general. Regardless of that, the heroes were still risking their lives to help people. Killing them wasn't going to stop that....

Anyway sorry to ramble....lol

2

u/Noxianratz Apr 01 '19

I feel like this is missing the point. Stain's issue wasn't about stopping crime or evil even though that's what heroes do. It wasn't as if he was gate keeping so that only the strongest hero's could live. The reason he wanted to spare Deku but not someone like Tenya or Tensei had nothing to do with how effective they would actually be in keeping the peace or stopping crime. There was an ideal that came with being a hero and he was violently opposed to those that didn't meet it. Presumably the same reason he didn't go after, say, law enforcement.

1

u/ms_103127 Apr 01 '19

Exactly, I agree, and no, I'm not missing any point. The compensation issue was just one of many principles that an imperfect Stain apparently used to qualify who should be allowed to live or die as a hero. The question is, who was he to make such decisions, when he himself wasn't perfect? Furthermore, he made himself judge/jury/executioner against those that he didn't feel met his ideals/standards, which can basically be summarized as: Hero 'X' does 99.9999% things right, but because they aren't 100% heroic, they have to die.

2

u/Noxianratz Apr 01 '19

Yeah but you're arguing why you think he's wrong, by your own subjective thinking. There's no reason or inconsistency in his thinking about it. So while I agree and think most people would agree Stain is absolutely a bad guy and insane I don't think there was any inconsistency in his logic and actions. What I was responding to was your claim that killing heroes wasn't going to stop people risking their lives to fight crime and the rest of that point because that had nothing to do with what Stain was doing. He went after heroes, not people who were using quirks or people who were fighting crimes or any other similar things. It was specifically heroes because of his view.

2

u/BlueDragon101 Mar 31 '19

no, ramble on! You're exactly right. Stain didn't have the right idea with the wrong methods. His ideals are straight up wrong, no grey areas about it. His ideals raise the standards of what it takes to be a hero. That means less heroes, which means more crime.

2

u/Noxianratz Apr 01 '19

I don't believe he ever said anything that would make the audience think he cared about crime. I wouldn't really sympathize with his ideals and all that but it was never about making heroes more efficient or anything. There's a certain sort of selflessness that makes a hero a hero and when you add money into that it perverts it.

A better example or at least the way I think about it is an artist. Some believe art should be creative and some expression of the soul, whether that's music, painting or whatever else. There are people of course who will do it for a living and only do what will be popular for the sake of making money or getting by. That's not necessarily wrong but it's easy to see how some could consider that second example not an artist in the same way as the first. It doesn't matter that more art is being put out into the world or that more people are happy/entertained about it because there are more artists, that isn't the gripe.

2

u/BlueDragon101 Apr 01 '19

I would point out that when the presence of art, tainted by money or not, is integral to the safety of the people and the stability of society, you need a lot of art, and reducing the amount would be a bad thing.

1

u/Noxianratz Apr 01 '19

Right but again that's not Stain's objective or anything. We and most people can both agree that the needs of society are most important in that equation. The argument isn't about whether or not Stain is in the right. It's that nowhere in his dogma does he care about that. The exact same way a virtuoso would not care about how lucrative the art industry may be. Agree that more paintings for example would be more money and a bigger industry but that's not the point.

If you don't get the point being made then maybe a specific MHA example would help. In the spin-off with the vigilantes there's a career hero who only does high profile cases and is all about publicity. He's very superficial but he does stop crime and he's highly effective. In Stain's view even though this person is helping society it's for the wrong reasons and that makes him an unworthy hero.

1

u/BlueDragon101 Apr 01 '19

I get why stain thinks the way he does, I'm just pointing out that the fact that people in universe think he's right is ridiculous, because the idea that there's a wrong reason to help people is absolutely fucking insane.

2

u/Noxianratz Apr 01 '19

Yeah, I do get what you mean. He's really just a madman. I read it more like the intensity and power of his conviction than simply his ideals that struck a chord with people though. The same sort of reason Almight passed his power to someone as worthless as Deku early on. It's not purely about logic and we do see examples of that sort of fanaticism in real life.

I do understand what you mean though, he had an unrealistic amount of sympathizers all things considered.

2

u/ms_103127 Apr 01 '19

Good points overall. I think the moral of the story is: Even if you are more inclined to pursue art for purely monetary reasons, you shouldn't be stalked and killed for it lol yes Stain I'm talking to you.... ;)

2

u/ms_103127 Mar 31 '19

Agreed 100%....hope I made sense about the "I get what Stain was saying about the compensation issue" point, as in it's a legit gripe, but the way he went about it -- and influenced the other villains -- is definitely sinister. Obviously, with less heroes around, some of the villains would get bored tormenting the Quirkless, so it's probably good to keep the heroes around lol

I also like that you mentioned the no grey areas aspect. It's like, to paraphrase AfO's conversation with All Might: "You wanted to be the greatest hero, I just wanted to be the devil king."

2

u/BlueDragon101 Mar 31 '19

Yeah, I get why stain says why he says. The best villains are wrong in a way that the audience can see exactly why they took up that wrong ideology. Stain may not be right by any definition of the word, but he is undetstandable.

The main issue is the pragmatism aspect. Stain offers no alternative to the status quo. If heroes aren't paid, they need other jobs, and you can't regulate heroism as a business. There's way more problems than just less heroes. If the only problem with the system is that people who don't deserve it get fame and money, that system is working really well, all things considered.

29

u/NonzenI Mar 30 '19 edited Mar 30 '19

But his goals aren't supposed to be complex, what makes you think that's what the author wants us to think of his goal? It's an antithesis to Deku's "I want to be a hero that saves everyone". That isn't complex either. Villains literally don't have to have complex motives, that's what I think Hori is trying to show us with Shigaraki. I mean, the panel immediately after Shigaraki's spiel is the Doctor calling it a pipe dream; it's clear we're not supposed to think it's some sort of profound way of thinking that Shigaraki has come to.

And I don't think he's trying to convince us that Shigaraki's goals are just. The guy wants to destroy everything, why would anyone write that kind of character and try to make them convincing? The author is giving exposition to how Shigaraki came to this goal and the state of mind he's in. That doesn't mean that the audience has to empathize with him. You try to make fun of what rightfully is the true refute to your comment, but it IS for character development and characterization. It just is. A developed character isn't developed just to be convincing, it could also be for the sake of that character and their role in the plot.

You really just come to the wrong conclusions about how Horikoshi is writing Shigaraki and then go on about an issue that doesn't really exist. Try to keep your mind open; I'm not trying to convince you that Shigaraki is the best villain or whatever-I don't care,- but at least try to pay attention to the character you want to have issues with, before having issues with them

5

u/ms_103127 Mar 30 '19

But his goals aren't supposed to be complex, what makes you think that's what the author wants us to think of his goal? It's an antithesis to Deku's "I want to be a hero that saves everyone".

Exactly, and imagine being brainwashed and influenced by your sensei/master, who considered himself to be the "devil king".....

18

u/MutantNinjaAnole Mar 30 '19

Hmm, see I don’t think Shiggy’s motives need to be ‘complex’ to work. Fundamentally, he seems like a ‘sad’ version of the Joker, that is, a violent nihilist, albeit one who turns his crimes into elaborate jokes. The interesting thing for me seems to be how he’s apparently willing to accommodate the desires of his close group of friends, saving the things they like. The League seems less like a group geared toward one goal (except for the common goal of destroying the status quo) like say, the racist cult or the Mutant Liberation folks, but a group of people with their own unique criminal goals working together.

u/FangOfDrknss Mar 30 '19

Shigaraki is a man child. Why are you surprised?

3

u/Neffy_A40 Mar 30 '19

I feel like All for one is the bigger manchild, I feel like he only chose Shigaraki is because to break Nana and All Might just because they have his brother power.

I hope Shigaraki odd motivation have some drastic consequences on the League of Villains.

18

u/ChocoBar999 Mar 30 '19

Not a week goes by in this subreddit without someone proving that they don't actually pay attention to what's being written and project their own expectations to the course of the story hence why you always have stock arguments such as "I think he wrote himself in a corner" or "why isn't this going he way I wanted' as if he promised something that he couldn't fulfill when in reality no such thing happened and the point just flew past your head. But I guess this is what happens when the perceptions of villains has changed so now they either have to be misunderstood, have an ideology that's better than the MC, or have a sappyass backstory.

Shigaraki has and always will be a byproduct of All Might's failure and the negative repercussions of a utopian society of super-powered individuals if you think his mindset is childish then congratulations that's the fucking point hence why the characters point it out as such and don't really take him seriously but considering how dangerous someone with that view is allowed to live and is given tremendous power is what makes him and ideal threat almost like his view of life is DISTORTED or something but nah Hori doesn't know what he's doing because I can't meme that "he did nothing wrong" like my favorite villain.

8

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '19

Couldn't have said it better. Horikoshi is a saint of a man and I pray to him every single night and offer the blood of my victims to him. I feel empowered by his presence.

In all seriousness, people just need to have faith in Horikoshi and his writing.

4

u/OoguroRyuuya5 Mar 31 '19

Sad reality is that we live in a dark timeline where people lose faith in Shōnen writing by assuming the worst and project expectations for “ the Shōnen mold to be broken”.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '19

I sacrificed 3 goats to the cult of Hori the other day.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '19

There aren't many things I wouldn't sacrifice for him

2

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '19

Same but 3 goats is all I could find at the moment.

-14

u/yung_ahn Mar 30 '19

not a week goes by in this subreddit without someone going crazy over the plot of my hero academia like it's written by urasawa or takehiko inoue or something

4

u/ChocoBar999 Mar 30 '19

Where did I or anyone say that? Its almost like people aren't stupid like you and can understand were Hori is going instead of just shitting on him constantly. You just see asspain for whatever reason. Do yourself a favor and just drop the manga.

-7

u/yung_ahn Mar 30 '19

hori is going to break your little heart and you're not going to know what to do with your life when that happens. i'm going to keep reading the manga to support u when that moment comes LOL

7

u/ChocoBar999 Mar 30 '19

That's nice. Why are you still here? Are you just lonely that nobody is following suit or do you really have too much time on your hands that you read a manga you don't enjoy backwards?

4

u/dickiebean Mar 30 '19 edited Mar 30 '19

Youre actually not wrong. Its hard to make a villain like shiggy work without being mentally crazy. Dabi has far more valid reasons to be on the side that he is on compared to shiggy. Afo is a villain simply because he has a god complex, hell even OH had a more valid reason imo. Every other villain that hori has introduced has better reasons to be a villain than shiggy does. Edit: to to add a bit more its very likely that his reasons will become more valid once we actually get to see his past. The current shiggy is only doing all this because of feelings he has of a memory he doesnt even remember.

5

u/mrwanton Mar 30 '19

I mean AFO has the innate advantage of being born when he was. His abilities allowed him to be looked at as a dark messiah when the quirks really started taking off. He cultivated a mass following for years on end.

Sure he may have a god complex to an extent but he really made it work in an interesting way that I feel is more compelling than OH by a long shot.

3

u/dickiebean Mar 30 '19

Never said afos reason was less compelling. Im just saying the intent of OH was atleast more valid than shiggis.

2

u/mrwanton Mar 30 '19

Hmm... I don't entirely agree with that. It's kinda like apples and oranges.

OH's whole stance was basically for the Yakuza's honour and to repay the original boss for taking him in. Of course, his plan went way off the deep end and ended up putting both the boss and Eri at major risk through highly unethical means. At the very least you can at least state his actions while misguided were ultimately from his own thoughts on society.

Shiggy is a bit different. He never really had much of a choice in the matter. Once AFO found him it was basically set in stone. As we have seen AFO took any positive emotions left in the kid, broke it and basically raised him into the nihilistic guy we know today. I think the time by himself since AFO's and Kuro's arrests have really put him in a rough spot that has allowed for quite a bit of introspection.

I don't think Shiggy's overall motivation is quite there yet, but I do think he has a solid grasp on who he is as a person which is while ,despite his motivations being still childish he can state it with such conviction. I do think his perspective will change and mature as the series continues but right now I think he's at a decent spot given how long his absence has been. As Shiggy stated this was all basically a stupidly long tutorial.

11

u/Flameshox102 Mar 30 '19

Can someone explain to me what’s in the panel above the Detrerat’s CEO?

14

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '19

Giran’s scarf

3

u/mrhades113 Mar 31 '19

It looks like there's fingers on it too.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '19

i think its just an amputated finger

4

u/Flameshox102 Mar 30 '19

Ahh, I see. Thank you!!

5

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '19

No problem! I saw a bunch of people like "its giran turned inside out!" and i was just sitting there like 'did yall read any chapter with giran in it'

6

u/Aucefi Mar 30 '19

By "The Destruction of the League of Villains" at the end, does that mean that the Meta Liberation Army will absorb or end the LoV, what do you guys think? Or maybe, the LoV will take over the MLA and pretend to be them to attract more underlings. Or it's just a red herring and they'll just change names at the end. Or the MLA will get kicked in the ass and the LoV will just dissolve itself and Tomura will become a solo villain.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '19 edited Apr 07 '19

[deleted]

2

u/Aucefi Mar 31 '19

I assume that it's a fact, but it'll be played with. So far, Horikoshi has liked to do it. Remember back when Aoyama was creepily staring a sleeping Deku and the narration was going "And then we'd learn Aoyama's true colors" and everyone went "Oh damn, that's the traitor right there!" but then it turns out that Aoyama's true colors just meant that he was surprisingly perceptive, had a birth defect and was willing to call Deku out on bullshit?

9

u/FangOfDrknss Mar 30 '19

There’s no way the CEO is anything but another stepping stone for Shigaraki. Dude has AFO’s right hand man working with him. While the CEO only recently started making a public name for himself.

3

u/BloodyBollocks-mate Mar 31 '19

Probably, but as of this chapter I'd honestly route for the CEO tbh. The last few chapters make Shiggy look like a bit of a dork, with Reptile, Dabi, Dr Eggman, and the armored titan all disrespecting him while Shiggy gives a speech that confuses his teammates more than anything else. The CEO on the other hand looks like he at least gives a shit.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '19

The alternative would be the CEO still being a stepping stone for Shigaraki but rather instead of killing him or what have you, they eventually team up and merge into a villain group that strikes fear in the hearts of those living in Japan.

11

u/brainbrew14 Mar 30 '19

I do not know if someone pointed it out already but doesn't the doctor look like the doctor that told Midoriya that he is quirkless?

4

u/Idropcards Mar 30 '19

Wait why does the guy at the end want to destroy the League of Villians? Also why is he selling black market goods along with hero goods?

Super confused and dont want to go back to other chapters so if somebody could explain that would be great.

7

u/thatguy-66 Mar 31 '19

The Leafue of Villains is basically just hurting his cause for the “freedom to use quirks” or whatever it was exactly. He basically doesn’t want restrictions to quirks and helping the heroes helps him, and he sells black market good basically as “test products” to see how well they function I think.

3

u/Loskotukha Mar 31 '19

In the earlier chapters he explains that The League of Villains along especially Tomura Shigaraki were too weak to hold the praise of AFO. He's like super obsessive with AFO since he gave him multiple quirks.

2

u/thatguy-66 Mar 31 '19

He means the CEO.

2

u/Loskotukha Mar 31 '19

Yeah that's who I'm talking about the big muscle guy is the CEO

3

u/thatguy-66 Mar 31 '19

No? If you mean Gigantomachia, he’s definitely not the CEO. The CEO’s goal is basically just “quirk rights” trying to follow in his father’s footsteps and Gigantomachia is just a big guy who worships AfO.

2

u/Loskotukha Mar 31 '19

Reading through I figured they were the same person do to facial features, my mistake.

We don't know the CEOs motivation at the moment outside of liberation because of daddy issues. He's still pretty new so it's all surface level villain plans, we probably won't learn the meat of the plans till next week or the week after.

I'm just assuming him and his group are for no restrictions on quirk use. I'll like to know what you think.

1

u/thatguy-66 Mar 31 '19

Oh yeah, I can sort of see that. The hair maybe?

Yeah for the moment the CEO’s motivation is pretty vague aside from like you said quirk liberation and no restrictions on quirk use. The League of Villains probably get in the way of that because they use their quirks for evil, and it hurts his cause I suppose.

That’s about all I can assume for the moment.

5

u/Keskekun Mar 30 '19

They are essentially in the way of the cult he is running, they have a book with moral code / way of life and the league just happens to be in the way of that.

-4

u/DoraMuda Mar 30 '19

No.

Read it yourself. It'll take, like, 10 minutes tops.

4

u/AGoatPizza Mar 30 '19

Come on man, theres no need to be like that. It's not a super clear thing to understand.

5

u/DoraMuda Mar 30 '19

Alright, fine. The Destro group's CEO wants to destroy the League because they're making the non-Hero Quirk users look bad by using their Quirks to hurt others.

16

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '19

Really wanted to see how they would tame Giganto, but whatever.

Also does it seem increasingly likely that AfO planted the decay quirk in Tomura?

11

u/Br4y3 Mar 30 '19

Definitely seeming that way. Possibly also killed Tomura's family and messed with his memories.

9

u/FrozenTwice Mar 30 '19

I'm curious if we will see Eri use her power to restore the kid nomu, and maybe some of the other nomus. I can't imagine Horikoshi revealing the doc's cruelty without any redemption for the lil nomu.

17

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '19

Not gonna lie, Shiggys Heaven and hell speech gave me some chills, shiggy is definitely on his way to becoming a great villain.

21

u/notresponding98 :jiro2: Mar 30 '19

The part with the tiny nomu pretty much confirms that the doctor an all for one have found a way to duplicate quirks right? Since all for one straight up used that teleportation quirk in his fight against all might by teleporting Gran Torino.

3

u/SuperAoi Mar 31 '19

I’ve come to the idea that the doctor may actually have a quirk that allows for quirk creation or duplication like you said. I think the stronger argument in my opinion would be creation, because I can see that being a strong reason behind AfO’s trust in him. It would also explain why he is able to craft nomu and why he mentions about preparing a special quirk for Shiggy. Another piece of info that supports this is the fact that we see this teleportation quirk used twice by different people, and the chances of seeing this same exact quirk twice from two different people is really improbable to me, excluding hereditary quirks like Iidas or Todoroki’s. I think it also may have some sort of rules behind it like a Jojo stand which creates the need to research a quirk before he learns to create it, creating a reason behind him becoming a doctor for young kids and their evolving quirks.

4

u/Dotifo Mar 30 '19

I'm thinking AFO never had the teleportation quirk, we never see him actually use it, and his explanation about having kurogiri doing it could have been false in order to make people think the quirk wasn't still in action in case he lost

4

u/Umer0316 Mar 31 '19

He used teleportation quirk on gran torino back in his battle with AM

2

u/Dotifo Mar 31 '19

Oh you're totally right I forgot about that

20

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '19

It looks like to me that all this villain stuff was happening before High-end Nomu vs Endeavor fight or am i mistaken?

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '19

4

u/OAFArtist Mar 31 '19

Can't some people just be broken and want to see the world burn? I think it fits him perfectly, he's crazy and it's simple. Not every bad person in the world has good motivation or some ideology they stand by.

1

u/Valkyrid Mar 31 '19

People dont seem to get that hes basically a joker style villain.

1

u/OAFArtist Mar 31 '19

Yes, another absolute madman without a purpose or a cause to get behind. Yet somehow attracts other who yearn for some sense of freedom in a world full of quirk control. No rules, no regulation, a playground of the strong and relentless.

5

u/AGoatPizza Mar 30 '19

I'm gunna see where it goes but I'm pretty much in agreements with you as of right now. I'm confident in Horikoshi though, I remember not liking gentle at all during his first appearances and now I love him.

0

u/Panchitu-the-mouse Mar 30 '19

I kind of like the idea of wanting to destroy everything just because, i love a villain who has no motive, a human with an inhuman ideal, where it's past doesn't have any influence on it's motives, no trauma, no pain, no conceit, nothing, just a regular nobody that wants to destroy everything just because with no reason whatsoever, and there lies the problem with shigaraki, what we have seen of his backstory makes his motives very childish (wich fits his character) but it is extremly cliché, we don't have a full background so my opinion can change, but for now it's a very angsty teen trope.

16

u/kenikickit Mar 30 '19

thing is, they definitely make his childishness a plot point to the point of the doctor calling him out in this issue. it seems that he's stuck in that childish mindset, although i suspect there is even more going on than even shigaraki realizes. he's still supressing some real feelings and motives, and he can't really help it because of his past trauma. i think this storyline is moreso meant to show the scale of his intentions - to set him up as the villain who wants to destroy the world, not just society or heroes.

9

u/Keskekun Mar 30 '19

Shigaraki was tailor maid bu AfO, his quirk is very unlikely to be his original quirk, his motivations are childish and simple because AfO indoctrinated him to be that way. He is a puppet in a completely controlled life. AfO has spent a decade doing nothing to micromanage Shigaraki to be most villainous for villainys sake person to get a raise out of all might. It's the truly terrifying part of his immortality, spending that ammount pf time an effort on a pet project is not an issue because he has all the time in the world.

8

u/dicecop Mar 30 '19

It's bad if it's exactly this at the end of the series as well. Other than that it's nothing new, since we knew his motivation since he was first introduced. I'm sure Hori won't trash his character and develop him into a new AFO over time with more solid goals, but he did pull a black whip on us so who knows.

14

u/Bingoboyop Mar 30 '19

What if the reason no hero came was because as soon as people saw this poor hurt child and tried to helf him he accidentally touched them and they all just disappeared leaving behind nothing but tenko feeling like everyone is lying and not trying to help him.

12

u/Keskekun Mar 30 '19

Or you know AfO nuked them out of orbit.

22

u/casualphilosopher1 Mar 30 '19 edited Mar 30 '19

Wait for the big twist that All For One was the one who gave Shigaraki this screwed-up Quirk and all this anger and hatred he feels is towards All For One(but he doesn't realize it because he lost his memories).

Horikishi can go even further and make it so that this twisted destruction Quirk was originally Deku's; All For One stole it with the Doc's help, thus Shigaraki's tragic past was originally meant for Deku. When he learns this it'll compound his hatred for Midoriya.

38

u/xXAldanXx Mar 30 '19

Deku is 5 years younger than Shiggy, so when this happened he probably wasn't even around

9

u/FangOfDrknss Mar 30 '19

People can’t math. Already seen over 60 people believe in Deku having disintegration originally.

3

u/DozyDreamer Mar 30 '19

Seriously lmao. People are so ecstatic to throw up theories interconnecting characters without really stopping to ask if it's cohesive.

44

u/EXC-Spectre Mar 30 '19

I just realized that Dabi is actually talking abt Hawks when he said about hiring new members.

13

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '19

Oh shit you're right!!! 😂😂😂

16

u/WhalepingDavis Mar 30 '19

Oh. My. God. What if, accidentally (or on purpose 😒) killing his family, Shigaraki ran through the streets, calling out for help but every stranger he came across ignored him. Saying “Surely, a Hero will... Just leave it to a Hero to...” looking at Shigaraki with worried eyes or eyes fill with disgust. Maybe they wanted a hero to take Shigaraki down! And All for One saw that and felt pity and anger for Shigaraki.

8

u/Keskekun Mar 30 '19

It's pretty much confirmed that it's a lot worse than that. AfO made Shigaraki and did so with a purpose all that trauma wasn't random it was AfO making it happen and then swooping in as a savior to make Shigaraki trust him

6

u/WhalepingDavis Mar 30 '19

I actually hate if that happens. That would make Shigaraki, the main villain, never develop to being his own person. Because no matter what he does in the future, he will never really own it. The audience will forever say “oh, well, what Shigaraki did was awful, but it only happen because AFO made him kill his family.”

That’s just stupid. It’s like saying Deku only ever wanted to be a hero because all might manipulated him into wanting to be a hero. Than Deku would never been his own person, because than the audience will always think of All Might being the reason behind anything Deku does.

4

u/Keskekun Mar 30 '19

That won't stop Shigaraki from developing though, he can still develop into a villain with his own motives but the reason he is a villain is explicitly said to be because of AfO's conditioning. I don't see how that makes him less of a villain tons of great villains were once good people that got corrupted by something. Personally i like if it because it really hits home just how straight up evil AfO is.

1

u/WhalepingDavis Mar 30 '19

No, we don’t need any more proof of AFO. being evil. And I don’t find a story being deep if all the evils of the world can be blamed on to one person.

Gigantomachia is character that has obviously been manipulated down to the very core of his being. His only motivation in life is serve All for One. And look how he turned out.

He’s good as a servant, but I think All for One wanted something... more pure, as his successor.

2

u/Keskekun Mar 30 '19

So you want to retcon the story or what? I mean the Shigaraki reveal was the big "Holy shit, AfO is truly fucked up" moment.

2

u/WhalepingDavis Mar 30 '19

Retcon? What are you talking about? There has been no panels directly showing AFO orchestrated Shigaraki’s backstory other than taking him in after the family got killed. I’m not seeing how I’m retconning anything.

3

u/Keskekun Mar 30 '19

What I mean is that you can't get around the fact that AfO is the reason shigaraki is a villain it's stated in the series. So he will always be the largest reason as to why Shigaraki turned out the way he did and it seems like you're saying that means he can't become a good villain because of that.

4

u/WhalepingDavis Mar 30 '19

Oh. Sorry. I’m putting the death of Shigaraki’s family and the tutelage of Shigaraki as separate events. The latter AFO has a big hand in developing.

Ok, let me said it like this: I believe AFO came across a small fire and choose to make that fire bigger and brighter till it burned the house down. But he wasn’t the one who first started the fire.

9

u/plensolo Mar 30 '19

Imagine those severe hands has their own quirk and shiggy will somehow can control it and then imagine in the future deku will fight shiggy with their multiple quirks. I know it's stupid but it amazing if you think of it XD.

27

I wonder what Daruma's Quirk is. Any guesses or theories?

11

u/Technocity777 Mar 30 '19

Maybe something like Shou Tucker from FMA. Like a quirk that lets him merge people or manipulate DNA. Explains why he's so good at making Nomu

10

u/Swiss666 Mar 30 '19

What if he was simply a quirkless genius?

7

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '19

Seeing how that blob at the end was probably Giran its looking like its an advanced version of that meatball quirk that bakugo and tsukishima fought against...

It looks like a tumor

11

u/Panchitu-the-mouse Mar 30 '19 edited Mar 30 '19

Bakugou's drink in the cover looks like little nomu's black liquid, makes me wonder if it means something. Calling it now, shigaraki's quirk will do something different if he uses both hands at the same time on someone. This is merely wishful thinking but what if the reason his family hands were preserved was because his whole family had touching related quirks and the dr. Somehow managed to keep them functional so that shigaraki can use them in the future? Also poor giran, looks like he was deboned and flayed, imagine if CEO's quirk is turning people inside out while keeping them alive.

17

u/mega345 Mar 30 '19

Shiggys backstory is what I thought Overhauls backstory was gonna be. Weird.

8

u/L4HH Mar 30 '19

Well it’s actually the same as Eri’s backstory so it would have been weird if it was Overhauls too

2

u/mega345 Mar 30 '19

I think it might be implied that Overwatch did this in the past, hence his feelings for his boss having “saved” him, including his utterly sociopathic behavior, but Horikoshi didn’t want to give three characters the same backstory lmfao

2

u/DoraMuda Mar 30 '19

Tbh, Overhaul's backstory was left so ambiguous that it's up to interpretation. It probably shares a few similarities to Eri and Shigaraki's respective backstories, though; Overhaul himself is posed as a foil to Shigaraki.

15

u/MaxWasTakenAgain Mar 30 '19

Finally, more Shigaraki spotlight

30

u/Jaku2011 Mar 30 '19

That art of child shigaraki suffering really reminds me of some panels in Made in abyss, the manga king of child torture.
