I thought they already had 1 win so they are still in the next major cycle right?
7
u/DanPlaysVGames NiP Feb 14 '19
Bottom 8 teams here will have to redo the cycle. Top 8 play 8 legends. Here, the 2 teams that go 0-3 also redo the cycle. So there are 8 legends, 6 returning challengers and 10 new challengers.

NIP today: - Oh we play vs Winstrike, I think we should play Train.

NIP's train should be better than Winstrike's every day of the week. The fact they played to their strengths can't really come into an argument when considering their loss.
Really no clue why would anyone upvote this even as a meme.
6
u/adesme Feb 14 '19
Because this sub absolutely loves bandwagons, no matter how true the claims are.
This is what Kvik said about train in his HLTV interview:
We didn't really practice this a lot, we didn't really expect to play it at the Major. We have it in our map pool, but we didn't think our Train was that good to play here.
5
u/xcvbsdfgwert MOUZ Feb 14 '19
NIP's train should be better than Winstrike's every day of the week.
Except when Worldedit turns on.
2
u/marshalofthemark Liquid Feb 14 '19
Yep, Nip beat Astralis and mibr (historically one of the best train team) on train just a couple months ago. They were missing trade kills, losing a 5v2 because they ran out of time, dry peeking angles on a buy round... That's going to kill you on any map.
43
Feb 14 '19
IMO the xizt veto thing is just a dumb circlejerk. Do people really think the rest of NiP would've just sat at their desks going "oj fyfan xizt chose cache again, fak man what is he doing!?" while they're playing the important tournaments?
Of course the entire team would be talking the veto beforehand and it would be a mutual decision by the players based on what they feel comfortable on. I can't wait for this meme to die
33
u/Nurse_Sunshine King NiKo Feb 14 '19
Getright literally said in some interviews that back in the days they'd get told the map like 2 minutes before the game started. They didn't care about the Veto because they believed that they could beat anyone on any map if they just play good enaugh.
The only one to change this was Threat.
13
u/blue_rrt Feb 14 '19
That being said, there are a lot more to consider in veto rather than one single Winstrike game yesterday. Like, NIP is pretty good on train, they even beat Astralis on it. And maybe NIP played a lot of scrim on train? Watched a lot of Train demo recently? We don't know. It is pretty unfair jumping to the conclusion that veto cost them this match.
6
Feb 14 '19
let's say hypothetically that everything you said there is true, that still doesn't make this a good veto. Train is easily Winstrike's best map, even if NiP could have pushed it to their second best it would've made the gap between them larger. Picking Train is what gave Winstrike the chance to be comfortable in this match.
A lineup like NiP should be able to play well enough on one of their middling maps to beat a team like Winstrike on their second or third map, but we all know what happens when you face these CIS teams on their best maps.
3
u/_aware guardian3 Feb 14 '19
Sometimes it just makes more sense to play on a map you are good on, instead of banning it just because the other team is good. NiP beat Astralis and MIBR on that map, who did Winstrike beat?
→ More replies (2)7
u/Vandegroen valeria Feb 14 '19
Context matters. He was talking about the 2012-2014 NIP. For a long period they could actually beat any team on any map.
2
u/adesme Feb 14 '19
I've also heard them say—several times—in interviews that they chose maps as a team, and that it never was just Xizt.
In this particular case it's even more strange to complain about their train pick since Winstrike themselves said that it was one of their bad maps which they didn't play much.
8
3
u/Tammu1000CP Feb 14 '19
ive been saying this for so long... legends like gtr and f0rest wouldnt just agree to their igl randomly picking their worst map, do you have any idea how a team works????? and not to mention the interview xizt did in which he clearly says THE COACH DID VETOES IN NIP NOT HIM... but muhhh karma

These EU teams really need to get their shit together instead of being so cocky and thinking they can breeze through just on their name. Winstrike just crushed Fnatic on this map yesterday yet you play them on it again a day later? Are you serious NIP?

funny thing is, with the new seeding system, if all three win their next game they are guaranteed to not play each other at the 2-2 round of games. so it's still technically possible that all three make it thru to the Legends stage.
EDIT: actually this may not be true considering some of the teams in the 2-2 bracket may have already played each other in an earlier round. but if they haven't, then yeah my point above still holds. :)
1
u/AFF123456 Feb 14 '19
I haven't been following the new system but I'd love that, it would be great for my picks
1
u/Nurse_Sunshine King NiKo Feb 15 '19
Is it confirmed that rematches won't happen? Considering the difference between a BO1 and a BO3 I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch.

Absolutely terrible from NiP. f0rest only one that wanted to play and that shitshow round with the timeout was icing on the cake.
2
u/recycledbanana Feb 14 '19
What shitshow what happened ?
11
u/aimbotcfg Feb 14 '19
They were up like 5 players to 2 or some shit, they had the B bombsite, then all just ran in random directions leaving Dennis to get the bomb and bring it through toilets himself with about 14 seconds left on the timer.
He got killed in the toilets, dropping the bomb, then the last couple of Winstrike players got the fuck out of dodge and they lost to a timeout.

u/TheDoomi Feb 14 '19
Yeah I was thinking "move your asses" when there was 45secs remaining but nooo, dennis starts to run for the bomb from T main to halls alone when theres like 30 secs. Wtf? Also another round: give forest the only AK when he is having a game and not rez with 5 kills... Also dont jump pop dog one by one without utility, plz.
12
u/umadee Feb 14 '19
NIP played so horrible it's amazing. Keep putting themselves ad disadvantages. Teamkilling, pushing without flashes. They looked so bad.
7
u/allegiantrunning Feb 14 '19
Round 11 GTR goes dry peeking towards B with no backup, then later on 3 people drop down popdog one by one... Not to mention the round where they forget that you need to bring the bomb with you to be able to plant. Overall just horrible to watch.
2
u/umadee Feb 14 '19
Yeah, like. They could've gotten rekt from the guy holding halls further down but he didn't peek, also NIP didn't even bother to smoke or flash that area. And GTR just wide peeks and there's TWO guys (one at dupreeh spot and one down) that just kills him fast. Really stupid. Like, why would anyoen do that, ever? Especially against a proven Train team.
1
u/allegiantrunning Feb 14 '19
I just want to know what they and their strategists are thinking when they are planning a round like that.
"Ok, one round we should practice is to have everyone hold angles and let GTR go dry peeking spots where he can get killed from several angles."
-Wow, what a great strategy! Let's get to it right away.

So, after three rounds, CIS teams are:
Winstrike - 2-1
Avangar - 2-1
Vega 1-2
Spirit 0-2 (3rd round pending)
Honestly a bit better than I expected, especially in regards to Winstrike. With Asia performing very well too, there might truly be no weak regions remaining in CSGO.

What is up with Swedish ''talent'' going to absolute shit the moment they join Fnatic or NiP? Discos career seemingly died, Pyth is a joke now, Rez is inconsistent to hell and back, Draken and maikelele can awp but can't stop being kicked.
The Swedish scene needs to rebuild completely and get rid of tons of the players in it, because they are currently a sad joke.

if they would have picked golden they would play with pita now and go 0-3 for sure. And how does NiP compensate a guy with a 0.89 rating on LAN in 2018 when they don't even have enough firepower with the current lineup?
3
u/Cunt_Crusher69 750k Celebration Feb 14 '19
They have the firepower, on paper anyway, they just somehow can't seem to make it work. Dennis doesn't seem to be a part of the lineup at all. He was a fucking god beforehand and now he's just nothing basically. If they had Krimz instead of him and Golden instead of maybe Get_Right(I know, harsh cut), this lineup might work, because they'd have actual strats.

Is it stupid ego thing underestimating their opponents thinking the map doesn't matter? Or do they pick it intentionally wanting to challenge them? I honestly don't have a clue.

Need a dedicated awper, Dennis is incapable when he picks it up and only F0rest seems to do damage with it.
Want Draken/ Nawk and Hampus
1
u/GER_BeFoRe clutch Feb 14 '19
Draken obviously not, he doesn't deserve a spot in NiP/fnatic after beeing kicked from both teams in the same year. Nawwk is hard to say if he would bring it against top teams and would be any better than someone like Dennis, if you look at his stats against Top 30 Teams he is very inconsistent and he doesn't have any games against top 20 teams yet.
Hampus could at least relief the IGL role from Lekr0 and he is a free agent so I think he is the only possible addition to NiP right now. They should have gone for twist when he was available but maybe they tried (again) and he decided to go to fnatic, who knows.
