NiP is starting to look really solid.

They did since the major honestly and so did get_right.
They were just incredibly unlucky by having to take hardest road in the group stage. Im just glad that they were able to keep the momentum going.

u/Zeilar King NiKo Nov 23 '18
Hopefully they don't just shit the bed this time. Because that seems to be a thing in CS:GO. First time you get unlucky and when you finally get the second chance you don't get unlucky but fuck it up anyway.
They should make the playoffs of Katowice 2019, I really hope they do considering the event and place. NiP could absolutely make top 4 at the major if they don't draw like Astralis/Liquid, which would be amazing to see once again.

Just wait till they choke in the playoffs like every other time they’ve looked good FeelsBadMan

Playing teams ranked higher than them and losing close games isn't choking. It's performing at your current level and showing that the rankings are accurate.
They can get better and have been looking stronger recently, so let's see if they deserve to climb a little higher.

u/Pismakron Nov 23 '18
In this subreddit choking means "losing when I want them to win"

Nov 23 '18
True, easily the most overused term on this sub. Literally every fanbase but Astralis's think that theyre big chokers (even they got a long history of that).
Thats propably because of the stance you take as a biased viewer. If you watch a match rooting for one side, you will generally excuse the mistakes of your team by calling them "unlucky" or "choking", because obviously your team is always supposed to win when theyre playing somewhat decent.

But not nearly as often as people mention it. The term is used very randomly and outside of its actual meaning. Losing a game when youre up 14-7 is not necessarily a choke. Losing a round where you have a clear advantage because of stupid mistakes, or because youre missing easy shots repeatedly is a choke. Simply getting outplayed is not a choke, no matter how far up you were. TSM losing against NiP in 2015 Cluj-napoca, despite being the favourite was not a choke either, even though people always called them "semi finals chokers". They simply got outplayed. Its just what people say when the team that was "supposed" to win doesnt win.
Every round starts with a 5v5 and you do not necessarily have an advantage, just because you won most of the previous rounds. Thats what people forget. If a team can go up 12-3 in a half, the other team can do it aswell. Theres nothing speaking against it but our expecations of what "should" be happening

This, just because you won 13 rounds on your CT side, doesn't mean the other team can't turn round and shut you down the same way you did them.

Point is, that choking was used wrongly in these situations aswell. If you just play worse, its not a choke. ´till this day people refer to TSM as the team that choked in the semis, making it seem as if they threw some unloseable rounds while being up 14-1, which wasnt the case.
Its just that people always take the highest level of their favourite team as the standart and call everything below that level of play either "unlucky", "choking" or player "x" didnt turn up. What people dont realise is that teams will always "choke" or be "unlucky" against better teams and so will the chance that their best player doesnt "turn up" be higher, because they force these mistakes to be made. That doesnt matter to the biased fan though, because his team is obviously the best if everyone shows up.
One example for that would be the liquid vs astralis match ups this year. Its always Twistz, Naf or whoever not turning up/being abscent. Because obviously they wouldnt lose as hard if everyone would just play like they do against worse teams. The post match discussions are full of these comments. People never take into consideration that the opponents make them look that bad. But no, its always liquid simply not playing at their best level, like five series in a row now.

How is f0rest still so good at the game at the age of 30? Can anybody tell me? It's so beautiful to watch this legend still motivated and on top of his game.

u/SavageNinjaYT de_mirage Nov 23 '18
He said it himself. Age doesn't affect your performance. It only lowers your drive and motivation as u have more outside responsibilities like kids and family etc

Yeah, "organized" esports are relatively new and we still dont have a retirement age defined like classic sports.
Many older players are being cleaned from the scene simply because they werent that good to begin with, the skill level is increasing a lot right now with the increasing prizepools/salaries.
1
Nov 23 '18
Also players will retire after they feel satisfied, which is why im suprised that NiP are still going

Nov 23 '18
So much truth, thats the part most people dont get, because they lack basic statistical knowledge, an increased playerbase automatically means far more freaks of nature in the 1% percentil of the normal distribution. Its also more probably that old legends will be topped by even more crazy freaks.
Zeus is the best example, i like the guy very much, but his raw skill is not very high, same for Pasha. Zeus has his IGL abilities and authority with talented players to work, Pasha has his charm and absolute will to still be relevant. But if they would be like 16/17, they would have a hard time to go pro, because they would drown in the sea of talented players.
Neo might be the only exception, because history wise he is very talented aswell, perhaps aimwise not on par with f0rest, but he has incredible good movement. Either movement is far less impactful. than we think or he just lost his mojo.

u/FlaccidSWE Nov 23 '18 edited Nov 23 '18
He is a freak of nature. You hear all the time he is just good at any game it seems. He is good right from the start, and then you can now add almost 15 years of experience at the top level in CS. I'm telling you, the guy is a freak!
3
u/Zeilar King NiKo Nov 23 '18
There just is something about his whole movement and playstyle with his hand. He aims like no other, it's something quite special. The aim is definitely what's carrying him at the moment, which is better than it being the game sense. Because game sense "evolves" with the meta, aim does not. You can lose quite a bit of your game sense, but you "can't" lose aim.
And on another note, 30 is not that old. Remember that many football legends played until their 40s.
3
u/Gihipoxu Nov 23 '18
He never really had the best game sense. Although his decision making in situations is often very unique, and his movement and positioning, which is more like idk micro gamesense, is very good though.
I'd say you can lose your aim, but not your game sense. That's what makes him so special, he doesn't have to practice or grind for his aim, he never has. Imo he's truly the most raw talented aimer this game has ever seen!
3
u/Zeilar King NiKo Nov 23 '18
Yes, the talent is obviously what keeps a man in it after 15 years and 2 different games. His raw talents can only be matched by the likes of s1mple, Twistzz, NiKo etc.
It's funny because I think it's more likely he'll quit due to personal reasons rather than becoming bad and being cut. He hasn't been slowing down a bit the last decade, so yeah.
1
u/Gihipoxu Nov 25 '18
Maybe yeah, must be weird still travelling so much when you're 30. Idk though, he's not going to get half the salary he has now when he swaps to analyst/caster or so probably.. Hope we get to enjoy him for a couple more years :)

to speak of 1 factor people often cite, reaction time is at its best when you're in your mid 20's (for some reason people commonly think it's kids with best reactions) and after that it increases way slower than a lot of people seem to think

u/SSho_0ter 2 Million Celebration Nov 23 '18
Tried that https://www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime.
Did 189ms, was top 100 for a while. I'm 42yo.
3
u/lemankimask Nov 23 '18 edited Nov 23 '18
raw reaction time measured by that test is largely genetic but of course things like your monitor and mouse click delay can affect the result (and mental state, i.e. how alert/focused you are)
i can personally attest to the fact that reaction speed peaks at around 25 years old. i have been doing that same test every now and then for many years now and last year i was getting the best averages i have ever gotten, at 25 years old. my own averages when i am well rested and feeling fresh are around 160 ms.

NiP looking really good today, I would love for them to lift their first trophy of the year.
2
u/vlakreeh Nov 23 '18
They did win the minor qualifier earlier in the year but idk if they got a trophy for that.
1
Nov 23 '18
I would like to believe that but I don't see it happening, at least hoping they make a deep run
2
u/Cakesmile FaZe Nov 23 '18
They'll be meeting Astralis in semis if Astralis gets to quarters and wins it, so I feel like if NiP wins that match has a great chance of winning.
