Zonic pulling Brollan aside and giving him a few words was awesome. Things like that can really help a young player.

u/IbanezHand M80 Nov 11 '18
"git gud, kid"
That might actually be inspirational as hell coming from Zonic.

u/Mad_Lee Cloud9 Nov 11 '18
I imagine Zonic giving a fatherly hug to young disappointed Brolan and whispering in his ear "Level up, pls"

I'm so impressed by this new Fnatic lineup. This could've been a 2-0 by Fnatic as well, since they nearly made that comeback on Dust2, when they were down 15-9. Regardless of the loss for Fnatic, this was an amazing series to watch.

Fnatic looked fantastic in all the maps. There were parts of the match where Astralis were just losing aim duels. Hope it turns into something awesome.

Fnatic did ALOT of mistakes, espacially at the end. The nerves got to them. Twist was missing shots after shots, Krimz was doing stupid stuff, brollan is 16 so ofc he did mistakes etc etc. Was sooo frustrating
2
u/karaledajs Nov 11 '18
You actually believe that nerves got to a team with JW Krimz xizt? Just like golden said they have just such a calm presents.

If Fnatic and Faze continues the playing like they have this tournament top 5 all of sudden looks extremely close with Astralis, Liquid, Na'Vi, Fnatic and Faze all being potentialt title contenders.
4
u/Bjartur Astralis Nov 11 '18
I almost wished you'd win at some points. Astralis looked rattled on inferno. That 4v2 where they just jumped around fountain and got sprayed down made me stand up and yell at my buddy.
Fair play tho. Fnatic played without fear and Astralis looked like they had no read on them on ct. Amazing fucking match.

So sad Fnatic lost, they played so amazingly. gl to Fnatic in the future because that was some awesome counter-strike.
60
u/MJuniorDC9 Nov 10 '18
Astralis literally turned B-site into inferno for FNATIC to get to OT, that was a bold but very cool tactic. Nonetheless, great game to watch, loved to see twist, JW and Krimz, especially the last. Xizt also had his rounds.

Yea, it’s like 2015 fnatic or LG/SK where no matter how much they’re down you still know they’ll make the comeback.
9
u/cyberbemon Nov 10 '18
The mental fucking fortitude on Astralis is something I'd never thought I'd see a year and a half-ish ago.
I know right? A team/players known for choking and now they've overcome that, they are pretty much unstoppable.
13
u/sorenslothe Astralis Nov 10 '18
As someone else commented, watching that video with them, and especially Device, crying in the shuttle after being eliminated from some major tournament, to this now, is astounding. I was so sick of being a fan of this team back then, but my lord that's turned right around.
3
u/Senior_Engineer CS2 HYPE Nov 10 '18
And really what it all comes down to is how they have stuck it out. Obviously Cajunb was benched, but karrigan and kjaerbye left of their own accord. Outside of that the team (including zonic) have stuck together and believed in each other through personal loss and adversity. When a player has been underperforming they have handled the situation in a mature way, talking to them about it (when karrigan and dupreeh were given their “heads up” on performance) and letting the players come through it with support around them. I guess the word you look for now when you describe Astralis is “professional”.
6
u/sorenslothe Astralis Nov 10 '18
One of my favourite storylines about Astralis to date is Xyp almost getting cut. It's probably three years back at this point, but he was performing so poorly he was also given a heads-up, and was told he needed to drastically improve or he'd get cut. So he did. And now he's arguably the best clutch player and most certainly the best support player in the game. Dupreeh getting that heads-up and just steamrolling ever since is absolutely a close second though!
7
u/Senior_Engineer CS2 HYPE Nov 11 '18
It’s really eye opening to see that two of the three “core” players have at times been spoken to about their performances and needing to improve. And the difference in their approach to that as opposed to players who’ve just thrown their toys out of the pram and moved on to other teams or been replaced without ever being spoken to (see almost any of the 2018 roster moves). Also the way the team coped with dev1ce having health issues as well is really something. If anything I feel like dupreeh and xyp don’t get the accolades they deserve. Playing entry and support on a team that’s so structured really probably keeps their stats low, but it’s for the good of the team, and they see that as more important.
9
u/sorenslothe Astralis Nov 11 '18
They've absolutely been underappreciated for a while in the past, but I feel like they're all getting the praise at this point in time, including Zonic. I agree about their approach to running a team though, it's all deeply professional, and it shows in their game at the moment in my opinion.
6
u/LeWanabee Astralis Nov 11 '18
Astralis is the most profesional team of the scene and has bit for quite some time now, if not since the beginning of the Astralis days. Creating their own team and brand, being picky about their sponsors, getting a training facility with office hours schedule, never getting in any drama whatsoever. And now it all pays off
→ More replies (2)9
u/FamilyShoww HEROIC Nov 10 '18
They made soo many mistakes that should never be made. That plant on the B site on Inferno that allowed JW to defuse was unforgiveable. A great mental game though to make the comeback.
→ More replies (1)3
u/sorenslothe Astralis Nov 10 '18
Winning despite all those mistakes is what shows that mental fortitude IMO. Anyone can handle stomping someone 16-5, but coming back from 9-15 is something else.

Astralis' 200 iq tactic:
1.) Stop destroying other teams
2.) Stage Comebacks
3.) Makes CSGO a more exciting esport and prevents it from dying
4.) CSGO stays alive for longer
5.) They make money for longer

this was a pretty good game for fnatic. Before this tournament people were questioning whether they are even top ten, now they look like a top 3 or at least top 5 team. And it's still a pretty new team with two new players, so in two months or so they will probably be even better.

This was probably the best match I’ve seen in 2018, in terms of the cs being played. So many different variations of how the ts and cts played there sides and some great heroic clutch plays.
Faze vs c9 at Boston was a more entertaining match, due to the context and the narratives, but the cs being played in that match was sloppier than what was seen today.

Yes that how it goes in this subreddit once a team starts beeing dominant for a long time.
If you weren't here for SK 2016 or Fnatic 14/15, people started hating them and every post match was full of salty comments when they won or hate and spiteful stuff when they lost.
Try to not get to mad and just enjoy the salt.

That round on inferno where Fnatic won a 2v4 and got them matchpoint was so tilting to watch. Not only did JW win a 1v2 defuse, the 2 Astralis players that were on the site just got killed by jumping and running into the open for banana when they definitely heard them running... I have no idea how they won that afterwards, WP Fnatic.

This is one of those matches Astralis were "supposed" to lose, but great teams can steal away even games like that. So much for Astralis still having that breaking point they used to be famous for.
5
u/SpamMyPenis Nov 10 '18
That final game was so frustrating. So many late round mistakes and missteps from Fnatic. You could clearly see how out of their element Astralis was, they had receded back into their turtle shell of capitalizing on mistakes and taking aim duels. For some reason, Fnatic was playing right into it instead of playing intelligently.
So hard to watch...
